2022 Ford Bronco Sport Pros vs Cons. Should You Buy?

Why Buy a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport?

Should You Buy a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport? Here Are Some Reasons For and Against

The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport stands out on the roads with its rugged design and retro stylings. It certainly looks like it could do just fine in any type of terrain, and its standard all-wheel drive and available engines help it do well in a variety of situations. Many people like how different the Bronco Sport looks from the other run-of-the-mill SUVs. It has some unique interior features that people will appreciate, too.

What's New for 2022?

Ford introduced the Bronco Sport in 2021, so it makes sense that nothing has been changed since then. This model really hit the ground running last year, and it's expected to continue to be successful in 2022.

Top 10 Reasons to Buy a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport – The Pros

1. Every Trim Has Four-Wheel Drive

4x4 capability is standard with the Bronco Sport. Since power can be sent to all four wheels instead of just two, traction can be considerably enhanced. With the Badlands trim, there's an advanced 4x4 drivetrain that comes with a twin-clutch rear-drive unit. This means that torque can be sent to either rear wheel, and this makes a difference if the trail is especially slippery.

2. No Need for Pavement

The Bronco Sport was built with adventurers in mind. It's prepared to deal with bumps in the road, snow and mud on the trail, and rocky terrain. There are five available modes as part of the Terrain Management System: Sand, Slippery, Sport, Eco, and Normal. The Badlands trim has two additional modes, which are Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl.

There's also an available program called Trail Control. It's similar to cruise control, in that a driver can set the desired speed. The SUV can then maintain that speed while the driver focuses all of his or her attention on navigating around obstacles. An available 180-degree front camera gives people a better idea of what's coming up.

3. Two Available Engines

Ford gives its customers a choice of two engines. The standard version is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine that can deliver 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The other is a larger EcoBoost engine, one that has a displacement of two liters. It boosts horsepower to 250 and increases torque to 277 pound-feet. This larger engine is part of the package on the Badlands trim.

4. Keeps the Ride Smooth

Every Bronco Sport trim has a High-Performance, Off-Road, Stability, Suspension (HOSS) system. This system has been thoroughly tested to ensure that the Bronco Sport can offer a smooth ride even when there are so many ups and downs on the road or trail. It uses softer springs, anti-roll bars, and front struts with hydraulic rebound stops.

5. A Design Inspired By History

Paying homage to the early days, Ford decided to give the Bronco Sport some classic design elements. These are especially noticeable up front, where there is a one-piece grille. The grille is flanked by round headlamps, and in the middle of the grille, there's the Bronco logo in lettering that's similar to what the early Fords would have had. The boxy frame of the vehicle is also a throwback, and it helps the SUV stand out.

6. Take Advantage of the Roof

The roof racks on the Bronco Sport can come in handy on many occasions. They're strong enough to hold 150 pounds of dynamic load and 600 pounds of static load. Go ahead and strap on skis, snowboards, kayaks, or even a roof-top tent. Using the roof is a great way to maximize the vehicle's utility.

7. Plenty of Interior Cargo Room

There's a generous amount of cargo space in the cabin of this SUV. The safari-style roof is higher than what's found in many traditional SUVs. This provides room for two bikes, standing up with their front wheels removed. Of course, this scenario would require the rear seats to be folded down, which is easy to do. Total cargo room is approximately 65 cubic feet, and there's an available cargo management system to help people organize their items.

When something longer needs to be accommodated in the cabin, the rear glass can be flipped up. This creates room for a paddle or a piece of lumber, for example. The flip-up rear glass is also really convenient for when people want to quickly drop things off or grab something from the back.

8. Easy to Clean

The designers anticipated that people would be getting pretty dirty after taking their Bronco Sports on adventures. That's why this SUV is available with rubberized seat backs and rubberized flooring. Simply wipe things off whenever mud, dirt, snow, or anything else is tracked into the cabin.

9. High-Tech Equipment

Every Bronco Sport comes with an eight-inch touchscreen and advanced technology. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make it simple to stay connected from the road. Contact information can be quickly accessed, as can downloaded media and certain apps. SiriusXM and a Bang & Olufsen sound system are both available. Many people will appreciate that there are a variety of ways to control the infotainment system, including touch-sensitive controls, voice commands, knobs, and buttons.

Navigation is another available feature. Since it can be voice activated, drivers can keep their hands on the wheel while looking up directions. The system also allows people to drop virtual markers while they travel so that the GPS can show them the way back. This is nice to have when exploring a new area without a concrete plan.

One other standard feature is a Wi-Fi hotspot. In addition, with the Ford Pass app, users can use their smartphones to start their engines, check on fuel level and oil life, and unlock or lock their doors. Plus, they can find their vehicles' locations, and this can be helpful when parked in a large lot or on city streets.

10. Offering a Co-Pilot

Ford Co-Pilot360 technology gives the SUV the ability to keep an eye out for potential problems. The pre-collision assist system alerts people to imminent issues, and it can apply brakes in an effort to avoid collisions. The lane-keeping system works to prevent situations in which drivers accidentally veer out of their positions, and blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert provides an extra pair of eyes looking out for other vehicles. Some available components are evasive steering assist and adaptive cruise control.

Reasons Not to Buy a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport – The Cons

1. Standard Engine Not That Powerful

The 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine that most Bronco Sports have isn't that powerful. Especially in comparison to what some turbo engines can do, it doesn't pack a huge punch. Some might want much more out of their SUVs than a 181-horsepower engine. It is nice that Ford has provided another option in the form of the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

2. Back Seat Isn't Huge

Leg room in the second row of this model is a little less than 37 inches. This doesn't provide that much room for back-seat passengers. For short rides, it shouldn't be a problem, but it could potentially be an issue for adults riding in the back on long road trips. The good news is that there's plenty of head room.

3. Many Extras Only Found in the Badlands

The Badlands trim is the most premium option for the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. As such, it has the best off-roading components, including the 2.0-liter engine, all-terrain tires, the enhanced 4x4 system, Trail Control, two extra driving modes, and extra ground clearance. Unfortunately, if anyone wanted one or two of those things, they would have to go for the Badlands trim instead of adding on to one of the lower trims. Those features simply aren't available on any other Bronco Sport in the lineup.

How It Stacks Up to the Competition:

2022 Ford Bronco Sport vs 2022 Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is another compact SUV, but it doesn't match up to the Ford in many ways. It doesn't have as much cargo space as the Bronco Sport does, and while it does have available all-wheel drive, it doesn't have the type of suspension or off-roading capability that's available on the Ford.

The base engines on both the Kia and Ford have comparable horsepower. Both trims have upgraded options for engines, and when these are equipped, the Ford is a bit more powerful than the Kia is. The Sportage is totally fine for driving on paved roads and can be used in some slippery conditions, but the Bronco Sport has been specifically designed for rough terrain.

2022 Ford Bronco Sport vs 2022 Jeep Renegade

Jeep makes a number of high-quality vehicles that have the same spirit as the Bronco Sport. The Renegade is one of Jeep's smaller models, so it's a good vehicle to compare against the compact Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport does have much more cargo room than the Renegade does, and this will likely be an important castor for many prospective buyers who have plans on loading up all kinds of things in their cabins.

The Bronco Sport has more convenient features, too, such as under-seat storage compartments and the flip-up rear glass. When it has the 2.0-liter engine under its hood, it's more powerful than the Renegade is.

Many people were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Bronco Sport, and now that it's widely available, it's doing well in the market. This all makes sense, given its unique style, standard 4x4 drivetrain, and long list of convenient amenities. It has the right price, too, and because it comes in several trims, customers can choose which one suits their personality and their needs best.
