Ford made a big move in coming up with the Mustang Mach-E. With a sporty name, this model really shines in terms of performance. It has exceptional handling and great capability, and most importantly, it's an all-electric vehicle. It's in its second year in the market, and it's poised to do well with all that it has to offer.
The 2022 Mustang Mach-E is refined in its style. Considered to be a crossover or an SUV, it has a good amount of interior space and looks muscular and athletic. As one would expect from a relatively new all-electric vehicle, it has a lot of advanced technology.
Ford makes four trims of the Mustang Mach-E. There are quite a few differences between the them, and notably, and there's a considerable price jump between the first and last trims in the lineup. This could either make it easier or harder for potential buyers to make their decisions regarding which trim to select, depending on what's important to them. This overview should clarify things some more and showcase what each trim has to offer.

Those who are new to the world of electric vehicles might be uncertain of how these vehicles can perform. Luckily, with the Mustang Mach-E, there's no need to worry about this.
With a standard battery pack and one motor, powering the rear wheels, the Mustang Mach-E can make 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. Already, this allows the Ford to outperform many SUVs and crossovers.
There is the opportunity to get the Select and Premium trim with all-wheel drive, and in this case, there would be one motor powering the rear axle and another one connected to the front axle. With all-wheel drive, torque is increased to 428 pound-feet. The vehicle can be much more responsive, and acceleration is so quick. A rear-wheel-drive model could hit the 60 miles-per-hour mark in 5.8 seconds, and an all-wheel-drive model could reach that same speed in 5.2 seconds.
The Select is somewhat limited in its options, as it's only offered with a standard battery pack. The Premium, though, can have an extended-range battery pack.
With this larger battery, it gets more horsepower. A rear-wheel Premium with an extended-range battery has 290 horsepower, and one with all-wheel drive can make 346 horsepower. This is a considerable improvement over the 266 horsepower that's standard. Torque remains unchanged with the upgraded battery.
It's interesting when looking at the vehicle's ability to accelerate with the extended-range battery. A rear-wheel-drive model takes 6.1 seconds to hit the 60-mph mark, which is slower than if it had the standard battery. However, with all-wheel-drive, it can hit that speed in just 4.8 seconds.
Range is a very important factor when it comes to electric models, and again, there are a lot of numbers to process. With the standard battery, a Select with RWD has a range of 247 miles, and one with AWD has a range of 224 miles. The Premium with that same battery doesn't do as well. A RWD Premium has a range of 230 miles, and that drops to 211 miles when the Premium is equipped with AWD.
Now, the extended-range battery increases those numbers significantly, which is why it's going to be able to attract attention from buyers. A Premium with the upgraded battery and RWD can travel on a full battery for 303 miles. Range is estimated to be 277 for a Premium with AWD and the upgraded battery.
After going through all of those numbers, this guide can move onto the other features of the trims. The Select is sleek and sophisticated, with the Phone as a Key program, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and an advanced infotainment system. That system consists of a 15.5-inch touchscreen, integrated navigation, FordPass Connect, and SiriusXM. Wireless charging is standard, as are a 10.2-inch digital cluster screen, rotary gear shift dial, and rain-sensing wipers.
It has LED headlamps and LED signature taillights with sequential rear turn signals. These can really catch the eye of other drivers. The mirrors on the Select are heated and display the Pony logo onto the ground when the vehicle is first unlocked. They have LED turn signals, too.
That being said, the Select feels a little basic is just a few areas. It doesn't come standard with heated front seats or a memory function for the driver's seat, though these are optional. It also doesn't have a power liftgate, though again, it's optional.
Those features just mentioned are standard on the Premium. A power liftgate is so convenient to have, as are the heated front seats. It also comes with power-folding mirrors, a heated steering wheel, and a cover for the cargo area. The seats on the Premium are perforated ActiveX material. Those on the Select are wrapped in ActiveX material, too, but they are not perforated.
In regards to the side mirrors, the Premium has the more comprehensive package. Its side mirrors have black painted caps and a power-folding function. Also, the entertainment system on the Premium is slightly more advanced. It comes with nine Bang & Olufsen speakers in addition to a subwoofer. In comparison, the standard sound system uses six speakers.
Both trims have scuff plates for the front doors. The Select has black plates with the iconic Mustang pony graphic, and the Premium has aluminum inserts with premium lettering. Further, the Premium has ambient lighting.
In the area of safety, Ford has done an excellent job with the Mustang Mach-E. This crossover has multiple driver-assist systems built into it. They can constantly watch out for problems, warn drivers about issues, and intervene if necessary. The Select is available with a 360-degree camera, a hands-free driving program called Ford BlueCruise, and parking assist program that can handle steering and speed as it slides into perpendicular or parallel spots. These features are all standard on the Premium.
One last element found in the Premium but not the Select is a panoramic fixed-glass roof. This makes the cabin feel more spacious than it already is, and it adds to the elegance of the vehicle.

The Premium is cheaper than the California Route 1, even though it has some more high-end amenities. For example, the California Route 1 trim goes back to having six speakers instead of ten, and it has ActiveX seats instead of perforated ActiveX seats. It doesn't have ambient lighting or the aluminum inserts in the front door scuff plates, either. It does have heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
On the California Route 1, there are 18-inch wheels with a high gloss black paint and a low gloss black aero cover. On the Premium, the wheels measure 19 inches. The California Route 1 doesn't even have the option to get a power liftgate.
So, why is the California Route 1 more expensive than the Premium is? That's because it comes standard with the extended-range battery. The Premium uses the standard-range battery as the default option, with the enhanced battery being available. With the California Route 1, Ford took customer choice out of play and went ahead and gave it the bigger battery.
The price differential between the Premium with the standard battery and the California Route 1 is not too large. When the Premium gets upgraded with the better battery, it jumps over the California Route 1 in cost.
There's one more thing about the Premium that needs to be mentioned. It's the only trim that has an available Ice White Appearance Package. This package would provide the Mustang Mach-E with white-painted pockets in its 19-inch wheels, a Star White metallic paint, Oxford White badging, and a gloss white instrument panels. The armrests and seating material would be a Light Space Gray color, and the steering wheel would have a white pony emblem.

The GT feels most like a supercharged Mustang sports car. It has upgraded mechanical components, so it's much more responsive and powerful than the others. It's only available with an extended range battery, like the California Route 1, but it can definitely outperform the other trims. Also, it's only offered with all-wheel drive.
It's able to deliver an incredible 480 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. There's a special version of the GT available called the GT Performance Edition, and it has 634 pound-feet of torque. It takes the GT 3.8 seconds to go from zero to 60 miles per hour, and the GT Performance Edition only takes 3.5 seconds to reach that speed. These numbers are not at all common in the world of crossovers, and they go to show how special this electric model really is.
It's not a huge surprise that something had to be sacrificed in order for the GT to be this capable. It doesn't have the range that the others do. The regular GT has a range of 270 miles, and the GT Performance Edition has a range of about 260 miles. Note that this is still higher than the range that the Mustang Mach-E has with the standard battery, even though it's less range than what the California Route 1 has.
Instead of having a standard panoramic roof, the GT has a black painted roof that goes along with its sporty vibe. It's the only trim to have this type of roof. It rides on 20-inch wheels, and it has a power liftgate. A panoramic roof is optional on the GT, and it would come as a package deal with Ford BlueCruise driver-assist technology and the parking assist program. A 360-degree camera is optional on the GT.
The cabin of the GT has many of the same features as found on the California Route 1. A minor difference is that it does get to be upgraded with the Bang & Olufsen speakers that the Premium has. Additionally, a cargo area cover is only optional/
Like the California Route 1, the GT has ActiveX seats. Its seats have Miko inserts and copper metallic stitching, and the front door scuff plates have metal inserts and the GT logo. The GT gets to have ambient lighting as well.
On its exterior, the GT has signature lighting and LED projector headlamps. These are the same as those seen on the Premium. With the California Route 1, the LED headlamps are a reflector version.

Which Trim to Choose?
The Mustang Mach-E has a stunning style and some very advanced pieces of equipment. It's nice that Ford has given customers a range of options, including models with better batteries and those with all-wheel drive.
This vehicle isn't cheap by any means, but the entry-level trim still may be within reach for the average driver. The same can't necessarily be said about the GT trim.
If someone simply loves the idea of driving an electric vehicle and doesn't need it to be extremely capable, then the Select is going to be a great choice. It can be upgraded with some more sophisticated elements, but it doesn't need to be in order to be a solid, reliable, and fun vehicle.
The GT would obviously be a dream for anyone who values performance above all else. However, it's expensive price tag doesn't make it that reasonable of a purchase.
A good compromise would be the California Route 1. It gets some added benefits in comparison with the Select, and it is fortunate to have the extended-range battery. Being able to travel longer distances before stopping for a charge is a huge advantage with electric models. This is something that will make this trim hard to pass up.
