2022 Hyundai Palisade Pros vs Cons. Should You Buy?
Ever since it came out a few years ago, the Hyundai Palisade has been drawing a lot of attention. Its success has come as no surprise, considering the high demand for SUVs in recent years. Since this model is a three-row model, it has a good amount of space in its cabin. This is exactly what many customers are looking for. The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is decked out with advanced technology and safety systems, along with a stylish exterior, and for all of these reasons, it will likely do very well in the market.
What's New for 2022?
Hyundai has made just a few changes to this SUV for the 2022 model year. First, all trims now have integrated turn signals in their side mirrors. These can be easily seen by other drivers. The SUV has received a few other safety components. Now, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance and blind-plot collision-avoidance are both standard. On many other vehicles in the market, these systems are only found on higher trims.
Top 10 Reasons to Buy a 2022 Hyundai Palisade – The Pros
1. There's a Big V6 Under the Hood
The Hyundai Palisade has a solid engine giving it power. It runs on a 3.8-liter V6 that can deliver 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This engine gives the SUV the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds when it's been properly equipped. Shifting through the various gears is really smooth, thanks to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a shift-by-wire electronic system. There's also SHIFTRONIC, which gives the driver manual control over shifting.
2. Fits Up to Eight People
Many households benefit from having three-row SUVs. Maybe they're transporting multiple children on a daily basis, or perhaps they occasionally need room for more than five passengers. The Palisade can accommodate up to eight passengers since it has a third-row bench seat.
Some people only need room for seven people, and in that case, they can opt for two captain's chairs in the middle row instead of a three-person bench seat. There are four trims of the 2022 Hyundai Palisade, and the top two are automatically configured with captain's chairs. The first trim (the SE) is only offered with the second-row bench, and the second trim (the SEL) can have either.
3. Generous Cargo Space
Behind the last row of seating, there's a cargo area that has a volume of 18 cubic feet. To provide a better perspective of how much this is, 18 cubic feet is a greater volume than what the trunks of many sedans offer. Granted, it counts vertical space, too, but this area still has a practical size.
When the third row has been folded down, the cargo room expands significantly to 45.8 cubic feet. If this still isn't enough, the the second row can be folded down as well. This would provide a cargo capacity of 86.4 cubic feet.
4. Stylish and Sporty
The Palisade looks attractive, so it can definitely catch the eye of a prospective buyer. It has a tall stance and a bold front grille, and it has a nice combination of angles and curves that make it look modern and athletic. There are LED accents, LED Daytime Running Lights, and LED headlights, and there can be LED taillights, too. Depending on the trim, there may be chrome accents and either a conventional sunroof or a dual-panel sunroof. Roof rails are standard on almost every trim, and they have a useful function in addition to making the Palisade seem sportier.
5. High-Tech Equipment
The base trim of the Palisade comes with an eight-inch touchscreen. Along with that, it has Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and five USB ports. Having all of those USB ports can be convenient when there are multiple devices being used in the vehicle.
The second trim in the lineup, which is the SEL, comes standard with that same configuration. However, it gives customers the option to upgrade to a 10.25-inch touchscreen. That larger touchscreen is what the other trims have, and it includes navigation. The higher trims also have two additional USB ports in their third rows, the ability to allow two devices to connect to the infotainment system, and wireless charging. They even have intercoms that make it easier for the driver to communicate with people in the back.
6. Many Standard Driver-Assist Systems
As mentioned at the beginning of this overview, the Hyundai Palisade has blind spot and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance. It also has a parking distance warning system, pedestrian detection with forward collision-avoidance assist, lane following and lane keeping assist, driver attention warning, and smart cruise control. In other words, the SUV can constantly monitor what's going on, and if it detects any issues, it can warn drivers and adjust its steering and speed as necessary. These safety systems can be very effective at preventing many types of accidents.
7. Luxurious Trims Available
The Limited and Calligraphy trims are quite impressive. They both have dual sunroofs, 12.3-inch digital gauge clusters behind their steering wheels, and surround view monitors. Further, they have premium Nappa leather upholstery, special headliners, and heated and ventilated front seats. They can take care of rear passengers with second-row heated seats, and they have heated steering wheels, too. To set the mood in the cabin, people can choose from 64 different colors for the ambient lighting.
8. Convenient Features
Almost every trim has proximity key entry. With this system, the key fob can stay tucked away while a driver simply walks up to the door handle and touches it to block it. Half of the trims have smart liftgates, which can be opened up by kicking one's foot underneath the sensor at the back of the vehicle. All trims have automatic headlights and automatic high beams. It's so nice when the vehicle can take care of things for its drivers.
9. Affordable Trims
The SE and SEL have competitive starting prices. The SEL is priced a little more than $35,000, and the SE is under that mark. This makes this model attainable to consumers on more limited budgets. For these relatively affordable prices, the SE and SEL trims have a lot to offer. People won't feel like they're compromising too much by sticking with an entry-level Palisade.
10. Add-Ons Available
With the SEL, there are many available features. Remember that the SEL is the second trim in the lineup, and while it has some upscale elements, it may not have quite enough to please everyone. Hyundai has two available packages that can come with the SEL, which are the Premium Package and Convenience Package. The Convenience Package includes things like 20-inch wheels, a smart liftgate, wireless charging, and an enhanced rear suspension. The Premium Package offers leather seats, heated second-row seats, navigation, SiriusXM, and a heated steering wheel, as well as some other features.
Reasons Not to Buy a 2022 Hyundai Palisade – The Cons
1. Somewhat Small Third Row
The third row does have space for three extra passengers, but they'd only have 31.4 inches of leg room. This would be a tight squeeze for adults, so this could limit the Palisade's ability to attract some buyers. These customers may need to go for an even larger SUV or a minivan. What does help, though, is when the Palisade has captain's chairs. This configuration would allow the people in the back to stretch out their legs a bit more.
2. Drive Modes Are Limited
If the Palisade has an all-wheel drivetrain, it would have Snow Mode to help in the winter. Then, there's Drive Mode Select, which comes with Normal, Eco, and Sport modes. However, there really aren't any other drive modes that would optimize performance for varied terrain. Some competitors in the market, for instance, have modes for Sand, Mud, and Off-Roading. This makes it clear that while the Palisade is somewhat rugged, it's not the toughest SUV out there.
3. High-End Trims Have High-End Prices
The first two trims of this Hyundai are relatively affordable, but the top two trims are pretty pricey. If a customer wants any of the high-end features, he/she will have to be prepared to fork over a significant amount of money. With any extras added onto to the Limited or Calligraphy, the total cost may rival what some luxury SUVs cost.
4. No Alternative Powertrains
Consumers like having options, and many people are now looking for eco-friendly options. Unfortunately, the Palisade only comes with the V6 engine. It doesn't have a hybrid powertrain. On the flip side, it also doesn't have a turbocharged engine that may appeal to drivers who are looking for big thrills.
How It Stacks Up to the Competition:
2022 Hyundai Palisade vs 2022 Honda Pilot
The Honda Pilot has a higher starting price than the Palisade does. It has about the same amount of torque as the Palisade does, but it doesn't have as much horsepower. Plus, it's a little smaller than the Palisade is in terms of total cargo capacity. Another thing is that even the highest trims of the Pilot have eight-inch touchscreens. Yes, they have navigation, but the screens are smaller than the ones that can be found on the Palisade, which measure 10.25 inches.
2022 Hyundai Palisade vs 2022 Chevy Traverse
One of Chevy's three-row SUVS is the Traverse. It's bigger than the Palisade is, but it's not as nicely equipped. For instance, it doesn't come standard with adaptive/smart cruise control, and it doesn't have as many driver-assist features as the Palisade does. Like the Honda Pilot, the Traverse is limited to having an eight-inch touchscreen, no matter whether it has navigation or not.
The Hyundai Palisade has excellent value, a modern style, and advanced technology. Because of its size and its three rows of seats, it should be able to attract a lot of potential buyers. Hyundai makes four trims of the Palisade, and there are versions that can be ideal for budget-friendly consumers as well as those that will please those with sophisticated tastes. Still a relative newcomer to the market, the Palisade is considered by many to be a welcome addition.
