With more available safety features on the entry level Sport edition, the 2020 Jeep Renegade takes on the competition. There’s a new turbo engine, some fresh styling touches, and an improved state-of-the-art dash tech system.

The Jeep Renegade is one of the most fun in the Jeep line-up, coming in just behind the Wrangler and Gladiator when it comes to trail savvy. Furthermore, it has sporty, distinctive styling. Shoppers will like the black roof option. They'll also be tempted by the MySky Roof with removable panels. There are four trims plus three special editions, in keeping with Jeep’s emphasis on personalized rides.

This SUV demonstrates value as well. It has been named best in class for Total Quality by Strategic Vision. Each trim comes loaded with features and special style elements.

As always Jeep doesn’t shy away from fun colors. There are ten hues, including clear coats in Jet Set blue, Slate blue, Colorado red, Omaha orange, and green Bikini. Interiors come in black sandstorm, trespass black, polar plunge, and Trailhawk black. Accents come in Metal Diamond and Grillz varieties. Color accents are offered in orange, blue and red.

Today's Renegade has more rugged exterior features and more aggressive proportions. The new look actually improves approach and departure angles, ensuring that these are best in class. There are new grille surrounds for the traditional seven-slot design. New wheels and new headlights add visual appeal.

If tech is more important to you than style, the Renegade won’t disappoint. Models get one of three UConnect touchscreens. With the 7-inch or 8.4-inch touch screen, drivers enjoy Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. This adds access to Siri Voice, Google voice search, Google or Apple Maps, and more. Other aspects include HD radio and built-in navigation. BeatsRadio is offered on many of the upper trims.

The big tech news for 2020 is the enhanced UConnect 4 system. The touch screen’s higher resolution allows for sharper graphics and vivid images. Faster processing power means quicker startups.

The Renegade cargo area offers plenty of room for your luggage. Rear seats and the front passenger seat fold for more space. A floor adjustment has high or low levels to permit different types of storage.

Compare the 2020 Jeep Renegade Sport vs Upland Trim Levels: What’s the Difference?

Sport models have an efficient Tigershark engine and a helpful nine-speed automatic transmission. The engine delivers 175 pound-feet of torque and up to 180 horsepower. Handling is enhanced by Jeep’s special steering system and the Renegade’s stiff body structure.

The traditional powertrain can be upgraded to a new 1.3-liter direct-injection turbo. The 177-horsepower engine cranks out 210 pound-feet of torque.

The new turbo has engine stop-start tech which reduces fuel waste during stop-and-go city driving. Improving aerodynamics, there are active grille shutters when you choose the turbo Sport.

Front-wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is a definite favorite with Renegade drivers. Jeep Active Drive is an exceptional system for difficult weather conditions. Drivers can use the Selec-Terrain system to adjust for sand, snow or mud. Four-wheel drive performance is always on tap. However, you can utilize an exclusive disconnecting rear axle to drive in more fuel efficient front-wheel drive. Jeep’s power take-off unit further optimizes efficiency.

Seats are dressed in Trespass black cloth mesh. The cabin is spiced with metal diamond accents. For a different look, you can choose a fun black and sandstorm cloth upholstery combination. Cattle tan accent stitching adds to its distinctive good looks.

A 5-inch touch screen and six speakers are standard. Utility details include an adjustable load floor, a 60/40 split rear seat and a folding front passenger seat. Exterior standards include power-heated mirrors and lower body side cladding. The My Sky removable roof is optional on the Sport.

Choosing the Sport Upland package, drivers get more technology. This includes a remote starter and keyless enter ‘n Go. The interior picks up some fancy anodized orange trim elements. Sport Upland models come with a special Washington black cloth that has a special black accent stitching.

Exchanging the 16-inch steel Sport wheels, stylish touches include the 17-inch low-gloss black alloys and gloss black exterior accents. Other additions include a front suspension skid plate, black tow hooks and deep tint sunscreen glass. Jeep has created cornering fog lights that light the path by moving with the Renegade’s wheels.

Sport and Sport Upland safety is assured by a high-strength steel around the cabin. Seven airbags provide extra cushioning. Crash avoidance features include a ParkView camera, electronic roll mitigation, trailer sway control, and panic brake assist.

Sport Upland buyers can opt for the Safety and Security Group. These valuable features include helpful equipment such as rain-sensing wipers and a security alarm. It also adds rear cross path detection for safer reverse maneuvers. The blind spot system watches for traffic alongside the SUV.

Compare the 2020 Jeep Renegade Sport vs Latitude Trims: What’s the Difference?

Latitude models are equipped with Tigershark engine and offer the turbo. The standards list builds on the Sport foundation. Dual-zone automatic climate controls adjust your temperature for you. There are also new options such as heated front seats.

In both trims, interior seating can be a black upholstery or the black-and-sandstorm combination. However, regular cloth is upgraded to Washington cloth. Furthermore, Latitudes are offered with a black and Ski Gray cloth combination with a fun ice blue accent stitch. Jeep adds the 7-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay, Google Android, and a 1-year Satellite Radio subscription.

Both offer the MySky Roof as an option. Renegade Latitude models also have standard black roof rails, cornering fog lights, and automatic headlights. Neither trim has skid plates.

Compare the 2020 Jeep Renegade Latitude vs Altitude Trim Levels: What’s the Difference?

Altitude editions are dressier editions of Latitude models. The interior wears a black deluxe cloth with black accent stitching. High-gloss black interior accents add to the black-out style. Like the Latitude, it has the UConnect 4 with 7-inch touch screen. Altitude models also add a leather-clad steering wheel with the option of a heating element.

The Altitude exterior has 18-inch glossy black wheels and other high gloss black elements. It does not have roof rails like the Latitude. Both the Altitude and Latitude offer the Safety and Security package with a blind spot monitor, rain sensing wipers and a rear cross traffic alert.

Compare the 2020 Jeep Renegade Latitude vs Limited Trims: What’s the Difference?

This year’s Limited has changed its face, updating the grille openings and vents. The front fascias have also been updated to complete a more aggressive look. Easily the biggest difference, however, is the black accent roof. This makes the Renegade Limited quite sporty.

When you step up to the Limited from the Latitude, you are stepping up to your choice of McKinley leathers. The Polar Plunge Leather is trimmed and backed in black. Or, you can simply enjoy a handsome black leather. Accents are special Grillz elements, a Jeep exclusive.

Limited standards include a power driver’s seat, dual front heated seats, and a 40/20/40 split second row seat. Jeep adds details such as seatback pockets, a leather-clad shift knob, and an auto-dimming mirror. A heated, leather-clad steering wheel takes the bite out of winter. Drivers will appreciate the assistance of Jeep adds a windshield wiper de-icer.

Limited drivers will appreciate the standard turbo engine. This provides extra torque for towing. With four-wheel drive, you get hill descent control. This system protects the brakes and transmission while holding a steady downward roll. Tow ratings are 2,000 pounds.

Shoppers can add more safety features. The lane departure warning plus helps maintain the Renegade’s trajectory. Adaptive cruise control and automatic braking assistance reduce driver stress and crash dangers.

Compare the 2020 Jeep Renegade Limited vs High Altitude: What is the difference?

The High Altitude wears 19-inch Satin Granite Crystal painted wheels and the premium LED lighting group. A matte black grille surround and Grillz accent bezels dress up the front end. Like the Limited, it has a black accent roof.

The interior has been enriched with more technology and more style. With navigation and HD radio, an 8.4-inch touch screen dominates the dash. Adding more style, Tungsten stitching decorates the cabin’s black leather.

Compare the 2020 Jeep Renegade Limited vs Trailhawk Trims: What is the Difference?

The Limited is more about style, and the Trailhawk is more about adventure with style. The Trailhawk has standard topographic cloth upholstery with red accent stitching, but you can upgrade to McKinley leather in black. It offers heated front seats, but they are optional. The Trailhawk has the 7-inch touch screen, but it does have the 8.4-inch screen as an option .

Trailhawk models have a special front fascia that seems to curl upward. The look actually provides better front-end clearance and a sharper approach angle. A black hood decal and black roof make this edition very appealing. Red tow hooks add a splash of color and utility. Like the Limited, it offers the MySky retractable roof as an option. This is the closest you can get to an open air adventure unless you go for the Wrangler or Gladiator.

Like the Limited, the Trailhawk has the turbo engine. That extra torque really helps it when crawling on the trail. While the Limited is offered in front-wheel or four-wheel drive, Renegade Trailhawks only come with Active Drive II. This exclusive Jeep system has a tight crawl ratio. Adventurers can count on 8.1 inches of wheel articulation and lots of low-end torque.

Ground clearance is 8.7 inches, slightly more than other Renegade models. To allow for water challenges, Jeep seals the underbody of the Renegade Trailhawk. A high air intake is less likely to take in water. Electrical sealing keeps important systems safe. They can handle a stream of water measuring up to 19 inches. Skid plates deflect trail debris.

Which Trim to Choose?

Shoppers really get to personalize the Renegade at every level. This makes shopping for the Renegade more fun than your typical SUV. You will want to test drive both engines. Plus, you'll want to look closely at the many different exterior and interior alterations.

The value proposition of the Sport certainly makes it appealing. With the money you save over higher trims, you can get the dressier interior and add the MySky roof. On the other hand, the Latitude has just enough extras to earn its slightly higher pricetag. You'll appreciate the larger touch screen with Apple and Android special connectivity.

If you really want something dressy, you will find yourself choosing between the Limited and the High Altitude. Both have the fun black accent roof, and both have rich leathers. You may want to stick with the Limited and use the savings to upgrade to Beats Audio. Getting the safety package at this level is definitely valuable, since it includes the latest driver assistance systems.

All four-wheel drive Renegades can take care of snowy days. With the Latitude's skid plates, you may stray onto the trail. However, nothing can beat the Renegade Trailhawk if you really love the outdoors. If you add the MySky Roof, you will be the envy of all of your friends.
