2021 Jeep Renegade Trim Levels with Comparisons & Configurations.

2021 Jeep Renegade Trim Levels, Configurations & Comparisons: Sport vs Jeepster, Latitude vs Upland, Trailhawk & Limited

What 2021 Jeep Renegade Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

The Renegade is Jeep's answer to the burgeoning crossover-SUV market. The 2021 Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover with four doors and room for up to five people. The overall length of the Renegade is just 166.6 inches. Jeep has somehow managed to cram a lot of cargo space into this small package. You get around 50.8 cubic feet of storage space with the rear seats folded down.

Subcompact crossovers are rarely known for their off-road prowess. Jeeps, on the other hand, are all about off-road performance. Thankfully, the Renegade stays faithful to the Jeep legacy in this category. It offers some of the best off-road capabilities in its class, especially from the Trailhawk model. The Renegade is also a sensible vehicle with over 70 standard safety features.

The 2021 Jeep Renegade comes in a total of seven different models. Specifically, there are four basic trim levels and three special editions. The Renegade is also available in front-wheel drive (FWD) and 4X4 configurations. Jeep gives buyers the choice of two different engines. A 9-speed automatic transmission is standard for all models. There are a lot of options here to configure the Jeep Renegade to your liking.

Compare the 2021 Jeep Renegade Sport vs Jeepster Trims. What is the difference?

The two entry-level trim packages are called the Sport and the Jeepster. They both come equipped with a 2.4-liter I4 engine that produces 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. They both share the same combined fuel-economy rating of 25 miles-per-gallon (mpg). You could see as much as 30 mpg while driving on the highway and as few as 22 mpg while zipping around the city.

Both of these trim levels come in FWD and 4X4 variations. Towing is only possible with a 4X4 model and caps out at around 2,000 pounds. The Sport trim is available in a wide array of colors. There are popular, conservative choices such as white and black. There are also more vibrant options like Omaha Orange or Colorado Red. The Sport gives you ten choices while the Jeepster only has four. The Jeepster offers one unique color called Mojave Sand.

The Sport comes outfitted with a set of 16-inch aluminum wheels and some all-season tires. The Jeepster has a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels with BSW all-season tires. The Sport comes with the option to add some roof rails for even more cargo space. Both trims offer extras from MOPAR such as side window deflectors and splash guards for all four wheels. The Jeepster comes with deep-tinted sunscreen glass and a Remote-Start System.

Both of these trim levels come with Jeep's basic black interior. You get low-back bucket seats with cloth upholstery on both models. There are stylish gray accents throughout the cabin. These two models both get the Uconnect 4 Infotainment System with a 7-inch touchscreen display and an AM/FM stereo. Jeep also offers a 6 month trial to SiriusXM radio for new buyers.

The infotainment system has Bluetooth technology for streaming music or making phone calls with a compatible smartphone. Voice Command technology can be used to control certain functions or for making phone calls while your hands remain safely on the steering wheel. The Uconnect 4 Infotainment System is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio setup features six speakers.

The Sport and Jeepster trim levels both offer many of the same safety features. You get front- and side-impact airbags for the driver and front passenger. Overhead, curtain airbags offer a level of protection to all five occupants of the Renegade. Side impact beams and a sturdy frame help to protect passengers in the even of a collision. All models have ABS brakes and Brake-Assist technology. All offer a security alarm with an engine immobilizer.

Compare the 2021 Jeep Renegade Jeepster vs Latitude Trims. What is the difference?

The Latitude trim level goes back to offering all ten exterior color choices like the Sport model. You also get a second choice for the interior color scheme this time around. The Latitude interior comes in either black or gray. This trim level has the same engine and transmission system as the Jeepster. It's also available in FWD or 4X4 configurations. This trim gives you some new exterior options such as fog lamps, LED taillights and LED projector headlamps.

The Latitude comes sporting a set of 17-inch aluminum wheels with some all-season touring tires. The exterior side mirrors are heated for easy defrosting. The mirrors also have a power remote feature so they can be adjusted from inside of the vehicle. For the interior, both trim levels have the same manually-adjustable seats, but the Latitude upgrades the cloth upholstery to premium material.

Both trims have the exact same infotainment systems and audio setup. The Latitude gives buyers the option to add on a navigation system. It also gets access to SiriusXM Traffic Service and Travel-Link Service. Both trim levels here share the same safety features and security alarm. Some of the driver-assist technology includes a Blind-Spot Warning and Stability Control with Anti-Roll.

Compare the 2021 Jeep Renegade Latitude vs Upland Trims. What is the difference?

The Upland once again comes with a 2.4-liter I4 engine. To this point, all trim levels come stock with that power plant. The Latitude does give you the option of a 1.3-liter turbocharged I4. This engine loses just a small amount of horsepower against the 2.4-liter, but it offers more torque. It's rated as producing 177 horsepower with 210 pound-feet of torque.

The Upland offers the same exterior paint schemes as the Latitude. Oddly, the Upland loses the choice for a gray interior. This new trim level comes stock with the LED fog lamps but lacks access to the LED headlight and taillight upgrades. You get the standard, halogen lamps here. The Upland has 17-inch aluminum wheels and all-season touring tires.

Upgrading to the Upland gets you body-colored door handles and black roof rails. On the inside, you get the standard cloth bucket seats. Everything goes back to manual adjustments here. You get the Uconnect 4 system but lose the option of adding on a navigation system. New features for this trim include all-weather floor mats and a standard Remote-Start System.

The Upland trim offers Keyless-Entry with Panic Alarm. This is only available as an option for the Latitude model. Other than that, these two models have the same standard safety equipment. The Latitude has more optional features in this category, such as the ParkSense Front and Rear Park-Assist System.

Compare the 2021 Jeep Renegade Upland vs 80th Anniversary Trim. What is the difference?

To celebrate their 80th Anniversary, Jeep has created special editions for most of their 2021 lineup. The 80th Anniversary edition of the Renegade comes with some nice features and extra cosmetic flourishes. You get a set of large, 19-inch aluminum wheels with a Granite finish. These are outfitted with a set of all-season road tires. Overall, this model was designed for paved roads, comfort and convenience.

On the outside, the 80th Anniversary has Satin Granite accents. This model has a set of Satin Granite roof rails too. The exterior mirrors get special trim. The 80th Anniversary has badges to proudly display this special edition's name. This model gains the option for LED headlights, LED taillights and special cornering fog lamps. It also offers rain-sensitive, automatic windshield wipers.

On the inside, the 80th Anniversary edition has black interior with special badges and trim. The seats have premium-cloth upholstery. You now get power seat adjustments at this trim level. There is also 4-way power lumbar support for the driver's seat. This can even be upgraded to an 8-way power-adjustable seat with heating.

This special edition gets an upgraded infotainment system with an 8.4-inch screen and GPS navigation system. You now get HD radio and a 5-year subscription to SiriusXM radio plus their traffic and travel systems. Buyers can also add on a Kenwood premium sound system. The 80th Anniversary edition gets access to all of the optional safety features and driver-assists that we've covered.

Compare the 2021 Jeep Renegade 80th Anniversary vs Trailhawk. What is the difference?

The Trailhawk, true to its name, was designed with off-road abilities in mind. This is a Trail-Rated Jeep suitable for sand, mud, and moderately-rough terrain. You can even do some modest rock crawling in this version of the Renegade. The Trailhawk is only available in the 4X4 configuration for optimal off-road performance. It comes equipped with the 1.3-liter, turbocharged I4 engine.

This trim level gets an upgraded suspension system. You can add on Jeep's trailer-Towing Package with a hitch and 4-pin wiring harness. This allows for the maximum towing limit of 2,000 pounds. There is more low-end torque from the 1.3-liter engine here. This helps with slowly navigating over rocks, logs and other debris.

The Trailhawk gets 17-inch aluminum wheels. These come paired with a set of all-season, on/off-road tires. This trim level comes stock with halogen headlights, but you can upgraded all of the lights to LED models. You can also opt for premium leather-trimmed upholstery on the inside of the Trailhawk.

This model gets the upgraded infotainment system with the option for the Kenwood audio setup. You get a lot of options with this model for upgrading the seats and convenience features. The Trailhawk has the security alarm with an engine immobilizer.

Compare the 2021 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk vs Limited Trim. What is the difference?

The Limited is geared towards on-road comfort and convenience in the same way the Trailhawk was designed with off-road performance in mind. Oddly, it's missing some of the convenience features and options offered in the special 80th Anniversary edition. This model comes with the 1.3-liter, turbocharged engine. It comes in both 4X4 and FWD variations.

In some ways, the Limited trim level is like a halfway point between the 80th Anniversary and Trailhawk models. It strikes a balance between off-road fun and on-road conveniences. It has less features than the 80th, but more off-road capability. It has less off-road capability than the Trailhawk, but more convenience features.

The wheels are big 19-inch aluminum models with all-season touring tires. Leather-trimmed bucket seats are standard for this trim. You get the top-tier infotainment system with the choice for a premium audio setup by Kenwood. The Limited can also be had with a Dual-Pane Panoramic Power Sunroof.

The Limited does get some of the best safety-feature add-ons like Forward Collision Mitigation, a Blind-Spot Monitor and Electronic Stability Control. You also get the security alarm, the panic alarm and the engine immobilzer for theft prevention.

Which Trim to Choose?

If you're looking for something small and practical, the Jeep Renegade meets those criteria while also offering something unique. It's one of the only vehicles in its class that has some serious off-road capabilities. If this is your primary reason for choosing the Renegade, go with the Trailhawk model. You will get the best off-road performance available along with a good amount of safety and convenience features.

If you want to go off-road or ever plan on towing something, then choose a 4X4 model. This will also get you better traction and handling in inclement weather. If you will primarily be sticking to paved roads, the Limited and 80th Anniversary trims are your best bet. The 80th Anniversary model gives you more options to upgrade the seats and infotainment system. It also comes in at a slightly lower base price.
