The UX is a compact SUV that has some refined elements to it. Some may consider it to be more of a crossover because of its smaller frame, but regardless of how it's labeled, it has a lot to offer. It's nimble, versatile, and modern, and it should work out well for a buyer who wants to spend a little extra to get some luxury components.
There are six available trims of this Lexus. Three of them use one type of powertrain, and the other three use a hybrid powertrain. Lexus has done a good job of integrating hybrid technology into its lineup, and those interested in using less gasoline should be pleased with their options.
For the purposes of this guide, it seems best to detail what each of the non-hybrids offer and then move into the packages that the hybrids come with. This way of listing the trims, however, doesn't coincide with how the various trims are priced. Keep in mind that each hybrid trim of the UX is a little more than $2,000 more expensive than its non-hybrid counterpart.

The base trim of the UX is called the 200. Like the 200 F Sport, it runs on a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. This engine gives the SUV 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. This isn't an incredible amount of capability, but it should be enough to satisfy drivers who don't plan on going off-roading or don't need to tow any heavy cargo.
Lexus has given the 200 and 200 F Sport trims a ten-speed direct-shift continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel drive is the only type of drivetrain that comes with them.
While they have most of the same mechanical components, there are two things that the 200 F Sport has that the 200 doesn't. The first is an F Sport-tuned suspension, which can lead to sharper handling. The other is paddle shifters. Paddle shifters give drivers more control and make everyday commutes more interesting and interactive.
Both trims have drive mode select, a program that lets people choose from three settings. Normal would be the default mode, Sport would make things more exciting by giving the vehicle a more aggressive feel, and Eco would do the opposite in an effort to conserve fuel.
Most consumers will appreciate that the Lexus UX has a comprehensive safety package. It comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 2.0. This package includes pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection to reduce the chances of hitting an object in front of the UX. Lane tracing, lane departure alert, and steering assist can all work together as well. Also included are road sign assist, adaptive cruise control that works at all speeds, intelligent high beams, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
An option for all trims is to get intuitive parking assist with automatic braking. This program warns drivers when they're getting too close to objects around them, and it can apply pressure to the brakes in certain situations to prevent bumps and scrapes.
Similarly, the UX comes with a lot of advanced technology as part of its infotainment system. Both of these trims have six-speaker premium sound systems, seven-inch displays, voice command, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Further, they have Wi-Fi capability and Amazon Alexa, which makes it easy to look up information and connect with other Alexa devices. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, too; smartphone compatibility is definitely something that many customers will be looking for.
These trims can be upgraded with navigation, wireless charging, dynamic voice command, and eight-speaker audio systems. One feature of the 200 F Sport that falls under the technology realm is active sound control. This program can be activated to enhance complement the sound of the engine with a generated sound that mimics it. The sound would be sent through a loudspeaker located behind the dashboard, and its volume can be controlled with a dial.
So far, it seems as if the 200 F Sport is distinct from the 200 in only minor ways. When looking at exterior and interior features, the differences are a little more apparent.
The UX 200 F Sport has trim-specific styling on its bumpers, grille, and badging, and it has LED fog lamps and cornering lamps. Its overfenders are color-keyed, and it's available with power-folding outside mirrors with auto tilt-down and auto-dimming functionality.
Both trims have heated outside mirrors, bi-LED headlamps, and LED daytime running lights. A power moonroof is optional. While they both have 18-inch wheels, the 200 F Sport's wheels have a slightly different design.
Inside the cabin of the 200 F Sport, there are bolstered front seats, a perforated leather steering wheel and shift knob, and performance-inspired instrumentation. Little details like these can make an impact, and the aluminum pedals and the aluminum scuff plates on the sills of the front doors are definitely striking. The 200 F Sport, but not the 200, can have a memory system for the driver's seat and side mirrors.
Heating and ventilated front seats are not standard, but they are optional on both trims. Alternatively, the 200 F Sport can just have heating and not ventilation in its front seats. The steering wheel can be heated on either trim, at an additional cost.

Moving to the 200 Luxury trim from the 200 F Sport involves some tradeoffs. The 200 Luxury doesn't have paddle shifters, nor does it have F Sport-tuned suspension or active sound control. In addition, many of the racing-inspired stylistic elements found in the 200 F Sport are not found on the 200 Luxury.
The types of things that are included with the 200 Luxury will please a lot of people, though. This trim benefits from having LED-illuminated air-vent knobs, acoustic glass in the front to keep the cabin quieter, and heated and ventilated front seats. It comes standard with a memory system that works on the outside mirrors and the driver's seat. This is useful for households in which more than one person gets behind the wheel of the UX.
Another thing the 200 Luxury has is a power rear door that can be opened up in a hands-free way. There's a sensor underneath the rear bumper, and when someone kicks or waves a foot underneath that sensor, the rear door will automatically open. This is available on the lower trims, but it's not standard.
The 200 Luxury's power moonroof is a major perk. It can either tilt or slide open to bring in some fresh air. Power-folding mirrors with auto-dimming and auto tilt-down abilities are standard at this level, as are rain-sensing windshield wipers. For the mirrors, it's just the driver's-side mirror that can automatically dim when bright lights are shining at it. The auto tilt-down function engages when the vehicle is in reverse in order to help with steering.

The 250h AWD is the first of the hybrid versions of the UX. Like the 200 trims, it's powered by a 2.0-liter engine. That engine doesn't work alone, though. The 250h AWD also has an electric motor. This trim is more powerful than the 169-horsepower 200 trims, as it has 181 horsepower. This extra increase in capability should be able to interest many potential buyers.
Another benefit of the 250h AWD is that comes standard with all-wheel drive. In fact, every hybrid UX model has all-wheel drive. The hybrids have similar transmissions to those of the non-hybrids. Hybrids have electronically controlled continuously variable transmissions, whereas the non-hybrids use ten-speed direct-shift continuously variable transmissions.
Obviously, the main benefit of driving a hybrid is improved fuel efficiency. The 250h AWD can earn up to 41 miles per gallon in the city and 38 miles per gallon on the highway. In contrast, the 200 versions get about 29 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles per gallon on the highway. These numbers are actually pretty good, just not as high as those of the 250h.
With the 250h, there's another drive mode to choose from. EV mode can be engaged when people would like to drive as efficiently as possible. An additional element is an adjustable rear cargo deckboard.
When compared with the 200 Luxury, the 250h AWD doesn't have as many convenient features. For instance, it has fairly standard outside mirrors that have heating elements but no other functionality. Rain-sensing wipers, a moonroof, and a hands-free rear door are only optional and not standard on the 250h. A buyer would have to pay extra for heated and ventilated front seats.
Compare the 250h AWD vs 250h F Sport AWD. What is the difference?
The 250h F Sport AWD has all of the elements that the 200 F Sport has. This means that it's been enhanced with stylistic details that give it more of an edge, and they include F Sport-styled bumpers, LED fog lamps, and aluminum pedals.
From a performance standpoint, the 250h F Sport may have the best package. It comes with paddle shifters and an F Sport-tuned suspension. Since it's more powerful than the 200 F Sport, it's going to be an appealing choice for performance-focused customers.
Note that the 250h F Sport AWD falls between the 200 F Sport and the 200 Luxury in terms of its price.

Like the 200 Luxury, the 250h Luxury AWD does not have paddle shifters or a special suspension. It does have a power moonroof and rain-sensing windshield wipers, but it doesn't have the advanced side mirrors with all the different functions. Instead, Lexus has chosen to stick with heated side mirrors for this trim.
Inside the cabin of the 250h Luxury AWD, there are heated and ventilated front seats, a memory system, and LED-illuminated air vent knobs. The company brings back the power-operated rear door with kick sensor with this trim.
Since people have to pay extra for the hybrid powertrain, the 250h Luxury AWD is the most expensive trim in the group. It costs a bit more than $40,000.
Which Trim to Choose?
While the 2022 Lexus UX looks like it would be fairly agile, it doesn't have a particularly powerful engine. That's why it's recommended to get the hybrid version of the UX. The 250h models benefit from having electric motors, so they're more exciting to drive than the 200 models are. Plus, spending about $2,000 more for a hybrid powertrain makes sense given the long-term savings that can be realized at the gas station.
Are the benefits associated with the 250h Luxury worth the premium cost? Many would argue that they are. After all, the 250h Luxury provides heated and ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a power moonroof. These are commonly associated with luxury vehicles, and they are the kind of sophisticated features that Lexus customers will be looking for.
