2017 Lincoln Contenental Pros vs Cons. Should You Buy?

Why Buy a 2017 Lincoln Contenental?

Should You Buy a 2017 Lincoln Contenental? Here Are Some Reasons For and Against

It's been a long time since Lincoln Continentals were rolling off the assembly line. If you're searching for the right full-size luxury sedan, the 2017 Lincoln Continental is definitely worth a look. The Continental offers great value for a luxury vehicle.

What’s New for 2017

2017 is the return of the Lincoln Continental since its cancellation in 2002. The last time a Continental was available, it offered the choice of CD or cassette player. The new model is equipped with the latest technology, connectivity and a modern infotainment system. The new Lincoln is a nice mix of modern technology with the classic, luxury-sedan style.

Top 10 Reasons to Buy a 2017 Lincoln Contenental – The Pros

1. Great Value In Its Class

The 2017 Lincoln Continental could almost be considered a budget luxury sedan. This makes it unique in the luxury-vehicle market. Some of its competitors cost double the base price of the Continental. Even the lower-costing sedans in this class are more expensive. A fully-loaded Continental with all of the bells and whistles is still reasonably priced.

2. Huge Amount Of Standard And Optional Features

A few of the standard-feature highlights include Intelligent Access with push-button start, automatic headlamps and a premium sound system with ten speakers. The 2017 Lincoln Continental also includes a lot of driver-assist technology. This includes hill-start assist, forward and reverse sensors and adaptive steering. The Sunc 3 system is also standard and includes an 8 in. LCD, touchscreen display.

3. Multiple Powerful Engine Types To Choose From

The 2017 Lincoln Continental comes with one of three, powerful engines. You can select from a 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V6, 2.7-liter GTDI V6 or a 3.0-liter GTDI V6. All three are string engines with plenty of horses under the hood. The 3.0-liter GTDI V6 is the leader of the pack with 400 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,750 rpm. This engine gets 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg during highway driving.

4. Attractive Interior

The fit and finish on the 2017 Lincoln Continental is top notch. It's at least on par with any other luxury sedan in this class. The sedan features a clean, simple interior design. All of the interior materials are of a high quality.

5. Tons Of Interior Space

The 2017 Lincoln Continental is a seriously roomy vehicle. The driver and front-passenger seat feel like comfortable thrones. There is 37.7" to 39.3" of headroom from rear to front. The rear seats feature a lot of legroom as well. There isn't a spot inside of this Lincoln where anyone would ever feel cramped.

6. Great Amount Of Cargo Space

The trunk provides a generous amount of space. The 2017 Lincoln Continental trunk gives you a full 16.7 cubic ft. of storage area. There should be plenty of space for whatever you need to transport.

7. The Lincoln App

The Lincoln App is a free, standard feature. This is Lincoln's own app that lets you use your smartphone for a variety of functions. An embedded modem in the vehicle syncs with your phone. It can then be used to start the car remotely, set climate options before you even enter and lock or unlock the doors. You can even set up regularly-scheduled start times.

8. Lincoln Roadside Assistance

Lincoln provides a good warranty and a lot of follow-up care for their customers. They offer lifetime, roadside assistance 24 hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week. Lincoln also provides a concierge service for repairs, loaner vehicles and complimentary car washes when you take the sedan to a dealer for service.

9. Good Safety Features

The 2017 Lincoln Continental offers numerous safety features. Their Blind Spot Information System uses radar and sensors to alert you to anything in those areas where you cannot see. There is also a system to let you know when you're straying outside of your lane. A 360-degree camera gives you great view in every direction. This is a nice feature that helps you avoid accidents while parking or driving in reverse. Eight airbags are also standard.

10. Nice Infotainment System

The infotainment system features a 10-speaker sound system. The touchscreen interface is large, clear and easy to see. The interface is also easy to use and very intuitive. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included, as are Bluetooth connectivity and 6 free months of SiriusXM® Satellite Radio.

Reasons Not to Buy a 2017 Lincoln Contenental – The Cons

1. Not The Best Performer In Its Class

Performance for the 2017 Lincoln Continental is by no means bad. There are, however, competitive models that perform better in all categories. If the engine performance, fuel economy and driving feel are priorities, you may want to look elsewhere.

2. Transmission Could Use Some Improvements

The transmission system could use more gears. Shifting does not feel as smooth as it should on a luxury vehicle. It also sometimes seems to shift at odd times. Passing another vehicle is not as smooth as it should be. You will often feel a sharp and sudden increase in acceleration.

3. Stiff Feeling Ride

The 2017 Lincoln Continental can be a very stiff-feeling ride. The suspension doesn't soak up enough of the biggest bumps when compared to other vehicles in this class. There are other luxury sedans that provide a much smoother ride, though they may cost you more.

How It Stacks Up To The Competition

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 sit at the top of the list when it comes to pure luxury and performance. Some other comparable sedans include the Cadillac CT6 and the Kia K900.

The Mercedes may be better for you if you want the most comfort, luxury and driving performance. It does, however, cost a lot more than the Lincoln. The Kia is closer in price, but does not quite match the Lincoln in terms of luxury. If price is your main concern, the Lincoln wins in terms of pure value.

Conclusion

It's good to see the Lincoln Continental back on the road again. If you want luxury that's affordable, the 2017 Lincoln Continental is a great choice. The modest base price and ton of standard features make it a good value. You can even get a higher-end trim package with tons of extras and end up paying less than other full-size luxury sedans. This vehicle is highly recommended.
