If you're looking for a budget-friendly car that can accommodate growing families, take a serious look at the 2019 Nissan Sentra. It's roomy, stylish, and affordable. Meanwhile, an available turbocharged engine rewards drivers with more fun on the road. Although no big changes were made to the Sentra for 2019, Nissan now equips every trim with a larger 7.0-inch touch screen. A new SV Special Edition package has arrived as well.

Nissan gives you a total of six Sentra trims to choose from: S, SV, SR, SR Turbo, Nismo and SL. Let's find out what separates one trim from the next.

Compare the 2019 Nissan Sentra S vs SV Trim Levels. What is the difference?

A 130-horsepower, four-cylinder engine comes equipped on the base Sentra S. While manual transmission is standard, you can opt for an automatic CVT. Like every other Sentra, power is routed to the front wheels.

Although the Sentra S isn't luxurious, it does feature some nice conveniences. A tilt-and-telescoping steering column helps a wide range of different-sized drivers to fit behind the wheel. Meanwhile, an integrated backup camera helps you to better see parking lot obstacles. Nissan's hands-free text messaging is a feature bound to make your life easier. Some of the other standard equipment includes a 7.0-inch touch screen, a four-speaker sound system, and cruise control. CVT-equipped models feature forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking.

Expect the Nissan Sentra SV to feel more modern. Unlike the base S model, it provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some of the other features include upgraded cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a more entertaining six-speaker sound system with satellite radio. Keyless ignition is another plus for the SV trim. Replacing the base S trim's steel wheels is a more attractive set of alloy wheels. An All-Weather package, with heated front seats and heated side mirrors, is optional.

A new SV Special Edition package is now available. It outfits the sedan with a cooler set of 17-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, rear disc brakes enable you to stop quicker during panic situations. Along with the standard forward collision system comes blind-spot monitoring. A sunroof is also included in the SV Special Edition package.

Compare the 2019 Sentra SV vs SR Trims. What is the difference?

If you desire the powerful styling of a sports sedan, step up to the Sentra SR. It comes equipped with a sleeker body kit and LED headlights. A rear spoiler further separates the Sentra SR from the Sentra SV. Premium sport cloth upholstery gives the interior a more exciting character.

Some buyers will be lured by the optional Premium package. It equips the Sentra SR with a stronger Bose stereo system, a sunroof, and leather upholstery. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included as well.

Compare the Sentra SR vs SR Turbo Trim Levels. What is the difference?

At first glance, the Sentra SR and the Sentra SR Turbo may look virtually identical. However, beneath the Sentra SR Turbo's hood rests a more potent engine. Its turbocharged four-cylinder engine develops a more stimulating 188 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. While driving purists will prefer the Sentra SR Turbo's six-speed manual gearbox, an automatic CVT with sport mode is optional.

To elevate the Sentra SR Turbo's ability to handle curves, Nissan equips it with a sports-tuned suspension. A recalibrated steering system gives you more road feedback. Stronger front brakes also come standard on the Sentra Turbo.

Like the SR trim, the SR Turbo trim gives you access to the Premium package. It includes a Bose audio system, leather seats, and blind-spot monitoring.

Compare the Sentra SR Turbo vs Nismo Trims. What is the difference?

Nissan designed the Nismo model to have an especially mean look. It features a special set of 18-inch Nismo wheels and a more aggressive body kit. Everyone will notice this model's red exterior accents. There's also a special performance exhaust on the Sentra Nismo. Although the Sentra Nismo comes equipped with the SR Turbo's engine, it benefits from a stiffer suspension. Nissan also specially calibrated the Sentra Nismo's steering.

On the inside, the Nissan Sentra Nismo continues its race-inspired theme. It comes equipped with performance gauges, including a large tachometer. Nismo sport seats with enhanced bolstering also give this model an extra sense of driving excitement. A Bose premium sound system comes standard. Keep in mind automatic emergency braking is not offered on the Nismo model.

Compare the 2019 Sentra Nismo vs SL Trim Levels. What is the difference?

If you care more about comfort opposed to performance, consider the Sentra SL. It comes standard with all of the available premium features, including heated leather seats and the Bose sound system. All of the available safety technologies are found on the Sentra SL as well.

Instead of a turbocharged engine, the Sentra SL comes equipped with the base four-cylinder engine. It also goes without the the Sentra Nismo's sporty upgrades. Because of the Sentra SL's more comfort-oriented suspension, you can expect to experience a smoother ride.

In regard to exterior styling, the Sentra SL has a more upscale look. There isn't a spoiler or a performance exhaust on the Sentra SL. A set of 17-inch machined aluminum wheels come standard.

Which Trim Level to Choose?

There are plenty of reasons why you should consider the base Sentra S, which starts at less than $18,500. It's inexpensive, good on gas, and comes standard with automatic emergency braking. Although the Sentra S doesn't include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone support, you can use Bluetooth to stream music from your phone.

Boasting popular features like satellite radio and Android Auto, the Sentra SV may prove to be a better option. While the new SV Special Edition package is more money, blind-spot monitoring and rear disk brakes make it a highly desirable upgrade. Along with the package comes a better-looking set of alloy wheels.

If you desire a sporty look without the available turbocharged engine, consider the SR trim. Unlike the lower trims, it can be equipped with a Bose audio system. To experience crisper handling and stronger performance, upgrade to the SR Turbo trim. Remember, premium fuel is a requirement for the Sentra SR Turbo.

The race-bred Nismo trim is actually the most expensive trim in the lineup. Its various performance parts do promote better handling. Although the stiffer suspension causes more bumpiness, driving enthusiasts won't mind. Before you decide to buy a Sentra Nismo, be aware that automatic emergency braking isn't offered on this performance trim.

In terms of overall luxury, the Nissan Sentra SL sits atop the lineup. It's a better choice for the drivers who aren't interested in performance. An MSRP of around $23,000 makes it only $500 more expensive than the Nissan Sentra SR Turbo.

2019 Nissan Sentra Key Features

The new 2019 Nissan Sentra offers two different four-cylinder engines. Don't expect the standard engine to deliver a powerful performance. It's more geared toward saving fuel. Models equipped with an automatic CVT will return a competitive 29 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the open highway. For the drivers who want stronger acceleration, Nissan offers a turbocharged engine. Although the extra power does not transform the Sentra into a hot rod, you can look forward to experiencing more enjoyment on the road. Aside from lowering fuel economy, the turbocharged engine also needs to be fed premium unleaded gas.

Nissan's automatic CVT makes the new Sentra a very easy car to drive. It also helps curb the car's fuel consumption. Unfortunately, you won't have much fun. The six-speed manual transmission is more entertaining. Mating the turbocharged engine with a manual transmission will certainly keep you excited. Although manual-equipped models have a slightly lower fuel economy rating, most drivers won't be terribly disappointed.

A 7.0-inch touch screen is standard on the 2019 Nissan Sentra. It's uncomplicated to use and provides better graphics than in previous years. If you desire Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you'll have to move past the base S model. After connecting your smartphone to the infotainment system, all of your mobile apps will be readily available.

The Nissan Sentra's available safety technologies are very good at detecting danger. They are tuned just right for real-world driving environments. Even the low-cost Sentra S now provides automatic emergency braking and a backup camera. You'll also find the available blind-spot monitoring system to be a big convenient on multi-lane highways and in busy parking areas. Intelligent cruise control is available starting on the Sentra SV.

Luckily, the 2019 Nissan Sentra gives you more than one audio system to choose from. Expect the base four-speaker system to sound cheap. If you step up to the SV trim,
you'll be treated to a more inspiring six-speaker system with satellite radio. However, automotive journalists highly recommend the eight-speaker Bose premium sound system. Dual woofers help ensure distortion-free bass. When making your way home from the job, the enhanced sound quality will be much appreciated.

Rear drum brakes come standard on the lower trim levels. While the Sentra will deliver good stopping power, you won't regret upgrading to rear disc brakes. The elevated confidence during emergency situations is well worth it. Like the performance-focused Sentra SR Turbo, the Sentra Nismo features beefier front brakes.
