What 2020 Toyota Camry Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

Over the last decade, no other midsize family sedan has outsold the Toyota Camry. Drivers appreciate the Camry’s great long-term reliability and hassle-free maintenance. The latest generation also packs a lot of style. Expect the 2020 model to remain a popular pick.

Just a few updates were made to the 2020 Toyota Camry. Smartphone users will especially enjoy the arrival of Android Auto. Meanwhile, driving enthusiasts will be interested in the all-new TRD trim. It’s engineered to deliver a great deal of driving excitement.

With six trims to choose from, the Toyota Camry should satisfy a wide range of different car shoppers. Let’s see what comes with each trim.

Compare the 2020 Toyota Camry L vs LE Trim Levels.  What is the Difference?

Priced at slightly more than $24,000, the Camry L is the most affordable trim in the lineup. Fortunately, it brings a lot of value to the table. Power comes from a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder. Toyota tunes it to generate a more than adequate 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.

An eight-speed automatic transmission is responsible for sending the power to the wheels. Like every new Camry, it uses a front-wheel-drive system. Fuel economy for the Camry stands at an exceptional 29 mpg in town and 41 mpg on the freeway.

In terms of exterior styling, this could be the best-looking base model in the Camry’s history. Bi-LED combination headlights are standard. However, it does come equipped with a rather blah set of 16-inch steel wheels. This trim is offered in five colors: Super White, Predawn Gray Mica, Midnight Black Metallic, Galactic Aqua Mica, and Celestial Silver Metallic.

Although the Camry L’s cabin is not luxurious, it will certainly satisfy the needs of most buyers. Ash-colored cloth upholstery lines the interior. The noise-reducing front windshield helps keep things quiet. A non-powered driver’s seat with height adjustments comes standard.

There’s a surprising amount of technology inside the base Camry L. Many of the Camry’s competitors don’t provide a standard Wi-Fi hotspot. You’ll also enjoy a 7.0-inch touch screen, which now provides all of today’s most popular smartphone integration features. Toyota equips it with Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Siri Eyes Free allows you to speak commands. Other standard features include a six-speaker stereo an integrated backup camera, Bluetooth, and a navigation app.

You don’t have to pay extra for Toyota Safety Sense. This collection of in-demand safety technologies will give you more confidence on the road. When vehicles and pedestrians unexpectedly cross your path, the pre-collision system will activate your brakes. When you start to unintentionally drift across the line, the lane-keep assist system provides steering assistance. Automatic high beams and radar-based cruise control are also included. A total of ten airbags seek to provide more protection for passengers.

Less than $600 separates the base Camry L from the Camry LE. For the extra money, you’ll get an upgraded set of 17-inch alloy wheels and a car alarm. The Camry LE’s power-adjustable driver’s seat is also a big perk. Because of the Camry LE’s split-folding back row, it’s able to offer more cargo space. If you desire more security on the highway, take advantage of the optional blind-spot monitor. A moonroof is also on the LE trim’s list of optional equipment.

Remember, stepping up to the LE trim gives you access to a few more paint options. These include Blue Streak Metallic, Brownstone, and Ruby Flare Pearl.

Compare the 2020 Camry LE vs SE Trims.  What is the Difference?

If you desire a sportier ride, go for the Camry SE. In comparison to the Camry LE, it looks noticeably more aggressive. Toyota equips it with a black mesh grille and color-keyed sport side rocker panels. A spoiler enhances the Camry SE’s sleek profile. You’ll also notice the 18-inch black alloy wheels and chrome exhaust tips.

A cool Nightshade appearance package is available for the Camry SE. It gives the sedan a blacked-out look.

A couple of performance tweaks enable the Camry SE to develop an extra three horsepower. While the Camry SE does not pack much more power, it does offer tighter handling. A stiffer suspension and a sports-calibrated steering system help the Camry SE to better assault curves.

The Camry SE continues its sporty theme on the inside. Paddle shifters allow you to manually control the gear shifts. Meanwhile, Toyota’s SofTex upholstery gives the cabin a more premium feel.

Compare the 2020 Camry SE vs XLE Trim Levels.  What is the Difference?

The Camry XLE goes with the Camry SE’s sporty upgrades. It reverts to a comfort-tuned suspension, which allows it to deliver a smoother ride than the camry SE. While the Camry XLE looks similar to the Camry LE, a different set of 17-inch alloy wheels help distinguish it. Upgraded LED headlights with fully integrated LED daytime running lights are also featured on the Camry XLE. LED taillights add to the sedan’s upscale appearance.

While the Camry XLE comes standard with a four-cylinder engine, you can opt for a stronger V6 engine. It gives the sedan a much stronger kick by producing 303 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. However, fuel economy does drop to an EPA-rated 22 mpg in traffic and 33 mpg on the open road.

On the inside is where the Camry XLE sets itself apart from the lower trims. Genuine leather upholstery gives the cabin an additional sense of luxury. You’ll also receive a dual-zone automatic climate control system. Aside from heated front seats, your front passenger will enjoy a power-adjustable seat. The Camry’s standard 7.0-inch touchscreen is replaced with a larger 8.0-inch display. Other upgrades include wireless device charging, two additional USB ports, and blind-spot monitoring.

There are multiple options available for the Camry XLE. The nine-speaker JBL audio system will capture the attention of music fans. An amplifier enables it to produce an especially powerful soundtrack. Along with the upgraded sound system comes an integrated navigation system. Meanwhile, a top-down camera makes parking a less hectic task. Toyota also offers the Camry XLE with a color head-up display and a panoramic glass sunroof.

Like the rest of the lineup, the Camry XLE benefits from a standard Toyota Safety Sense package. However, you can opt for rear automatic braking. This feature will help you to avoid danger when backing up.

Compare the 2020 Toyota Camry XLE vs XSE Trims.  What is the Difference?

The Camry XSE is essentially a more luxurious version of the Camry SE. It comes equipped with all of the same upgraded performance features, including a sports-tuned suspension and a more responsive steering system. While a four-cylinder engine is standard, power-hungry drivers will want the more muscular V6 engine,

In terms of exterior styling, there are a few things that help the Camry XSE to stand apart from the other trims. On the rear, quad-outlet exhaust tips give the sedan a meaner character. Toyota also decks out the XSE trim with an exclusive set of wheels. A black roof is available as an option. This features gives the car a contrasting look.

All of the Camry XLE’s standard luxury features are also found on the Camry XSE. If you get the Camry XSE with a V6 engine, you’ll automatically get upgrades like the powerful JBL sound system and a head-up display.

2020 Toyota Camry XSE vs TRD Trim Levels.  What is the Difference?

This is the newest trim in the Camry lineup. In terms of performance capabilities, it’s a step above the Camry XSE. No other trim comes standard with a V6 engine.

If you’re seeking track-worthy handling, definitely consider getting the Camry TRD. It comes equipped with a special TRD performance suspension, which enhances the sedan’s athleticism. Bridgestone Potenza summer tires enhance traction. Active Cornering Assist also helps the sedan to glide through corners. To bolster the car’s stopping power, Toyota equips it with beefier brakes. When cranking the engine, you’ll hear the rumble of the TRD-tuned exhaust system.

On the outside, the Camry TRD's powerful look matches its elevated level of performance. It features an aerodynamic body kit and a lightweight set of 19-inch alloy wheels. A racy spoiler also helps the Camry TRD to make a serious statement. Because of the Camry XSE’s lowered ride height, it has an even more aggressive stance.

Drivers will enjoy the Camry TRD’s race-inspired cockpit. When enjoying a fast-paced drive on the open road, the sports seats will keep you stable. Aluminum sport pedals add more excitement. Remember, you won’t be able to fold down the Camry TRD’s rear seat. Exclusive sport braces for enhanced handling prevent you from doing do.

With the Camry TRD being more focused on driving excitement, you will miss out on a few creature comforts. This high-performance trim doesn’t receive leather seating or dual-zone climate control. You’ll also miss out on the Camry’s available panoramic sunroof. Luckily, Toyota does equip the TRD trim with a JBL premium sound system.

Which Trim to Choose?

This year, the Toyota Camry gives you even more trims to pick from. Car shoppers looking to limit their spending should choose either the base L trim or the slightly nicer LE trim.

Despite being geared towards budget-minded buyers, the Camry L doesn’t go without today’s most attractive features. Everyone in your family will make good use of the standard Wi-Fi hotspot. You’ll also enjoy Toyota’s upgraded Entune infotainment system, which now provides Android Auto. Standard Toyota Safety Sense is an especially big plus. Expect to experience a good performance from the standard four-cylinder engine. Fuel economy is also better than average.

Spending a little more money allows you to upgrade to the Camry LE. Its power-adjustable driver’s seat and car alarm make prove to be worth it. You can also opt for a blind-spot monitor. Styling is enhanced by a more stylish set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

Priced at around $26,000, the Camry SE is a fine choice for drivers seeking a little more fun. Its sports-tuned steering and suspension system certainly aid handling. Many people will also be drawn to the Camry SE’s sleeker styling, which gives it more attitude. Features, like a sunroof and dual-zone automatic climate control, are optional.

Stepping up to the leather-laced Camry XLE rewards you with a tad more passenger comfort. During the colder months, you’ll be thankful for the heated front seats. Aside from a V6 engine, this trim also offers goodies like a JBL premium sound system and a color head-up display.

The sporty Camry XSE starts at less than $30,000. However, opting for the V6 engine gets you more features.

Although the race-bred Camry TRD may sit atop the lineup, it’s actually the least expensive V6 version of the sedan. Very few cars deliver as much for for less than $32,000. Toyota clearly designed the Camry TRD for driving purists who yearn for more performance. The various performance goodies certainly deliver a more inspiring drive. Keep in mind that the Camry TRD does forgo some creature comforts.
