The 2019 Buick Regal is an entry-level luxury sedan that can be purchased either as a traditional four-door or as a hatchback. The interior is as luxurious as ever, and buyers can choose from a number of package and stand-alone add-ons. Below, the various models are described in further detail, and this should help prospective buyers determine which of the new exciting models bearing this brand name will suit them best.
What’s New For 2019?
The 2019 Buick Regal GS has a new member, and it's the Avenir. This trim comes with quilt-stitched leather-appointed seats and a distinct front end grille and fascia. The 2019 Essence trim gets a new ionization air filtration feature as part of the climate control system. The Regal Tourx hatchback version gets standard intelligent all-wheel drive and can be purchased with the addition of a hands-free power liftgate.
The Sportback style was introduced last year and is targeted to those who prefer a little SUV style incorporated into their sedan. The Sportback is longer than the standard sedan and has an increased amount of cargo space, a sleek but tall roofline contour, and plenty of horsepower.
Body Styles And Trim Levels
The 2019 Buick Regal lineup consists of the:
- Regal Avenir
- Regal Sportback
- Regal GS
- Regal Tourx
The Avenir has the same basic body design as the Sportback, and like the Sportback, it comes with a smaller, turbocharged engine than what is found under the hood of the GS. It's really a more enhanced version of the Sportback and has distinctive body styling accents plus a Black Ice finish grille.
The 2019 Sportback was designed to accommodate more cargo than the GS sedan. It has the same interior dimensions for the front and rear seating area as the sedan, however. The GS gets the more powerful engine and comes with performance brakes and a different suspension system. The 2019 Tourx is designed much like the Sportback but incorporates enhanced all-wheel drive. It comes in three different trims, the base Tourx, Preferred, and Essence. This model also gets standard roof rails.
All of the models have their own set of stand-alone options available. For example, the Sportback can be purchased with the same all-wheel drive system that comes standard on the Tourx. The Tourx can be customized with the addition of a power moonroof. To best see what sets these models apart, it's recommended that a personal inspection and test drive be scheduled.
Engine And Powertrain
The 2019 Buick Regal comes with a choice of engines, but this choice is limited to the model itself. The Regal GS gets a 310-horsepower, 3.6L V6 DOHC engine. The Intelligent AWD system is standard. Transmission is nine-speed automatic. The GS is more performance-oriented than the other models and comes with interactive drive control settings including three different drive modes. This model also comes with standard Brembo brakes.
The Regal Sportback is fitted with a turbocharged 2.0L engine rated at 250 horsepower. With the standard front-wheel drive, total torque is 260 lb-ft. With the all-wheel drive, torque increases to 295 lb-ft. This model comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2019 Buick Regal Avenir gets the same engine and powertrain as the Sportback. The Tourx comes with the 2.0L engine and the Intelligent AWD system with active twin clutch.
Buick has chosen the standard luxury route on all Regal models. The GS features include racing-style performance front seats, a reconfigurable instrument cluster, and a premium sound system. The screen display is completely customizable, and navigation is included.
The Sportback model base trim comes with split-folding rear seats, keyless ignition, a 7-inch screen display, OnStar, and smartphone app integration. The uplevel trims add on a power-adjustable driver's seat and a larger screen display. The Preferred II trim gets a heated steering wheel and a driver information screen. The Essence trim bundles most of the lower trim options as standard features and adds on leather upholstery and heated front seats.
The Avenir model is similarly appointed to the Sportback Essence trim, but it also gets the quilted-stitch leather seating surfaces. The Tourx model, available in the same three trims as the Sportback, gets the same standard features per trim level. Leather upholstery is standard on the top trim, and all trims come with the premium audio system, OnStar, and smartphone app integration. It's important to remember that all of the hatchback versions of the 2019 Buick Regal have flat-folding rear seats and a larger cargo space than the GS sedan.
All models come with a rearview camera, and the Driver Confidence package that includes most of the driver safety aids is either optional or standard depending on trim level. All 2019 Buick Regal models have adequate sound dampening and offer a quiet, bump-free ride for passengers.
This is a very elegant model line, and those who have owned a Buick in the recent past are encouraged to check out the newly redesigned Regal line. Schedule a test drive of the new 2019 Buick Regal, and be sure to compare the GS sedan and the hatchback model versions.
Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:
- Example: Base Buick Regal invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
- What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.
Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here.)
Note: All Buick Regal MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.
A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
