2018 Ford Transit 150 Overview:
If you are under the impression that a full-sized passenger van is going to be sluggish and annoying to drive, you will have your mind blown by the 2018 Ford Transit. In fact, it operates much less like a truck than it used to. With the number of different configurations available, you can easily get this cargo van to meet your unique transportation needs. Despite the fact that it simply isn't as comfy as your average mini-van, for a cargo van, the Transit offers a smooth and relaxing ride.

What's New For 2018?

Ford has made a number of minor changes to the 2018 Ford Transit. The new Transit now has power mirrors that fold, a rearview mirror that has been relocated, and power locks that are standard across the line-up.

Available Styles

The 2018 Ford Transit is available as a full-size cargo van with multiple configuration options.

Available Trims

There is only one different trim level available on the 2018 Ford Transit. You also have three engines to choose from. The base 3.7-L V6 engine gets 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the 3.2-L turbo-diesel inline-5 gets 185 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. There is also the turbocharged 3.5-L (which is also a V6) that generates 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Every powertrain is completed with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The sole trim level comes with your choice of a hinged or sliding passenger-side door (the hinged door comes on the low roof while the sliding door comes with the medium and high roofs) and a standard rearview camera with a trailer hitch assist feature. You can choose between the 150, 250, and 350 model variants, and these should be selected depending on the weight you expect to tote around. In addition to the three different roof styles, you can select between a Transit with a standard wheelbase or one with a longer wheelbase. The longer wheelbase will give you the option of getting an extended-length body.

Driving Impressions

The 2018 Ford Transit is one of the more well-rounded vehicles in its class with its sophisticated handling and steering abilities. Drivers should feel comfortable behind the wheel of this van as it does not have the ride quality and personality of a truck (which is a common issue for full-size cargo vans). If you opt for the 3.5-L turbo V6, you can still get a zippy performance from a fully laden Transit. Regardless of which engine you choose, the 6-speed automatic transmission provides extremely smooth and seamless shifting. You will not notice the transmission searching for gears. Also, with the way the body of the Transit is shaped, you will not have any trouble navigating tight parking spots and congested urban roadways. Wind and road noise are minimalized by a well-designed cabin and windows. In fact, the only noise you will really hear coming from the outside is heavy rain pouring down on top of the cargo van's roof.

Fuel Economy

As you might reasonably expect, fuel economy is the Transit's downfall. For a vehicle in its class, it is moderately fuel efficient, but the EPA ratings are nothing to write home about. At the best, you will get 16 mpg combined (15 city/18 highway) from the 3.5-L. However, the 3.7-L doesn't trail far behind when run on regular gas (although it can be fueled by E85). Numbers aren't available for the turbo-diesel.

Overall, you can expect a comfortable and quiet ride from the Transit. This cargo van can easily tote heavy loads and is surprisingly powerful regardless of which engine you are running it on.

How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Ford Transit 150

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Ford Transit 150 invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of all the options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here)

Note: All Ford Transit 150 Prices above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
