Cranking out 910 lb-ft of peak torque at a tachometer reading of 1,600 RPM, the signature engine burns diesel. When revolving at 2,800 RPM, the patented turbocharged engine generates 445 net hp. Some other notable features of the Duramax engine include an after-run function, exhaust brake and a block heater.
Synced with the Sierra 2500HD's gas engine, an automatic transmission system creates six gear sequences. The driver can manually turn on the Tow-Haul Mode to reduce stress on the gearbox while towing. The Auto Grade Braking is another innovative technology that's integrated into the six-speed transmission. This function reduces the amount of braking power that's required for slowing down on a hill.
The Duramax powertrain is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which claims the patented Allison label. Installed on the passenger's side, the Power Take-Off system is also available for this advanced gearbox. The PTO system may be used to precisely control a snowplow or another type of exterior hardware.
When equipped with the Duramax engine, this full-size GMC pickup truck tows up to 18,500 pounds. The maximum payload rating of the diesel powertrain is approximately 3,600 pounds.
