If something needs to be transported, it's loaded onto their bed. If it needs to be towed, then it's hooked to the back of the truck. If people need to be driven short distances at a site, they jump into the rear bed and hold on.
This has gone on for decades. And though they still perform these tasks, how these trucks look has improved. Today, many of these vehicles have the same comfort and extras as sedans. Despite the fact they can haul a payload of up to one ton.
This is the case with the 2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD. The "HD" means heavy duty. However, it doesn't mean cookie cutter. Being in the truck business for so long, GMC has learned how to combine workhorse capabilities with comfort. This is the case with the new 3500HD.
To get a better understanding of this vehicle here's a breakdown of its most important components.
What's New for 2019?
What's new for the 2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD is the rebuild of its Denali trim. After many years, company engineers decided to update the exterior and interior of the high-end trim to reflect modern design and innovation.
On the exterior, the Denali has a new grille to accentuate its wider wheel wells. What they call "shoulders." An LED lighting package highlights these updated items.
The Denali’s interior provides the driver with a cockpit-like position. This gives them a clearer view through the windshield and the enhanced dashboard panel. In addition, since the length of the cab has increased, passengers have more head and leg room in the front and the back.
On the technology front, the Denali is filled with smart technologies such as a 15-inch, color heads-up display. Owners who use their Denali to tow can now use the display's Trailering App for a clean and tight trailer hitch. Furthermore, the truck's rear-view mirror works as both a standard mirror and a rear camera to detect nearby vehicles and passengers.
Styles and Trims
The 2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD is considered one of the line’s styles. It also has four trims -- Base, SLE, SLT, and the Denali. Within those are many different options. Too many to mention here.
As an example, the SLE comes with seating for six passengers, 13 exterior color styles, and the option for either a 150-inch or 170-inch wheelbase. The SLT offers 10 exterior colors. However, it allows drivers to choose from a Driver Alert Package with Lane Departure Warning or Cargo Convenience Package with Rear Underseat Storage.
Power and Performance
What some of the 2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD trims lack in new features it makes up in power and performance. Face it, in order to handle a three-ton payload (including passengers, cargo, and optional equipment), something strong has to be under the hood.
The standard engine across the board for the 2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD is the Vortec 6.0L V8. It's a gas engine that can use standard unleaded fuel and E85 - the mix of ethanol and regular fuel.
Higher-end trims like the Denali allow the consumer to upgrade to a Duramax Turbo Diesel. This engine provides 445hp and torque of 910 lb. per foot. A hood scoop induction system helps to keep the Duramax cool while it maximizes its power.
Other standards across all models are cruise control, daytime running lamps, rear view camera, and an electronic stability control systems. Higher end standard offerings are OnStar for emergency situations, lane departure warning, front airbags for drivers and passengers, and seat-mounted airbags.
The good news is the 2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD has a massive gas tank, no matter what the trim. It can hold 36 gallons. As long as fuel costs remain low, a filling is fairly economical.
The not so good news is there isn't a true MPG gauge for this style and the trims. So, consumers might need to monitor driving during the first few rounds. For example, check it with an empty payload, with a maximum payload, and with a payload and tow.
No matter the style or trim, the 2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD is a powerhouse of a truck with the capacity to carry several tons on cargo. Yet, it has the luxuries of high-end sedans. Especially the Denali.
For drivers, this means a powerful engine, road stability, and enhanced technology interconnectivity. For consumers, it means a choice of trims that sway across a several thousand dollar range. In the end, the decision will be made on if the truck is used for pride or profession.

- What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.
Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here.)
Note: All GMC Sierra 3500HD 2WD MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.
A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
