Honda resurrected the Passport nameplate just last year, and although automakers often bring back a well-known model name as an advertising gimmick as much as for any other reason, the newly designed Passport is truly a well-built mid-size crossover. Powertrain And Performance
The 2020 Honda Passport is powered by a V6 engine with a displacement of 3.5L and a total output of 280 horsepower. The engine is direct injection, has a total of 24 valves, has variable valve timing, and is of the single overhead cam type. It's paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard on all but the Elite trim. This trim gets all-wheel drive as standard, and all-wheel drive is optional on the lower trims.
Acceleration is punchy. The Passport goes from a full stop to 60 mph in just under seven seconds, a good rating for a vehicle in this class. The steering is nicely weighted, and the driver gets an excellent feel for turning of the vehicle around sharp corners. The 2020 Honda Passport base model, known as the Sport, comes with keyless entry and ignition, tri-zone air conditioning and heating control, and a 60/40-split rear bench. Even if one settles for the base Sport trim, there's a lot to like in the high-tech department. The 5-inch central display screen offers crisp graphic and is easy to navigate. The seven-speaker audio system is of high quality. The EX-L trim gets an 8-inch screen display and smartphone app integration. The Touring trim comes with a 10-speaker stereo and integrated navigation, and the Elite trim has all these features plus a wireless smartphone charging pad.
The upgraded audio systems on the uplevel trims provide a rich, powerful sound that fills the cabin. The aforementioned navigation system is cleverly designed and responds well to quick swipe gestures. This really comes in handy if the driver or front passenger needs to rapidly zoom in or rotate an on-screen map. Other niceties found on all but the base trim include a Wi-Fi hotspot and a total of four USB ports.
Safety And Security
Honda has upgraded the safety systems and driver aids on all of its models. The Honda Sensing suite, for example is now standard on most model trims and comes with more features than in recent years. The 2020 Honda Passport base trim has adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist, and the forward collision mitigation system with emergency braking is also standard. Blind-spot monitoring is included on all but the base trim, and parking sensors are standard on the uplevel trims.
