Jeep Gladiator Overview:

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is still new to the public, but it has had no trouble establishing itself among truck enthusiasts and Jeep lovers. This vehicle rightly inherits some of the mystique that surrounds the iconic Wrangler. It also promises to work harder than other gas-powered rivals.

Although new, it has already earned a few awards. Wards placed it on the 2019 10 Best Interiors List. The Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association named it Best Family Truck.

Wrangler shoppers will recognize the 2020 Jeep Gladiator trims: Sport, Sport S, Overland and Rubicon. Shoppers also will be choosing between two levels of four-wheel drive and three roof styles.

Exterior Style

Jeeps tend to emphasize fun, but the 2020 Jeep Gladiator almost screams it. The midsize truck has a Wrangler's flair while creating its own identity. The wheel arches and bumpers are built high to stay out of harm's way when rolling through brush.

Under the fun colors, there's a special truck frame with high-strength steel inserts. This allows it to tow twice as much as a Wrangler. The five-foot bed can handle considerable payload. A unique three-position tailgate adds to its capability. Gladiators come equipped with a frame-mounted hitch and receiver.

Like the Wrangler, this is an open air vehicle. That makes it the only convertible truck on the market. Roofs include the Premium Soft-top, the Black Freedom three-piece top, and the body-color hardtop. Two lightweight panels can be removed to give the hardtop owner an open-air driving experience.

Performance Facts

Aware of comparisons to the Wrangler, Gladiator engineers clearly made sure that there was follow-through when it came to capability and performance. There's no let-down here. Sport gas-powered models can tow 7,650 pounds, surpassing other V6 rivals and matching the capability of Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon diesel editions.

The truck shares the Wrangler's 285-horsepower V6 engine. Torque rate is 260 pound-feet. If you are comparing, that's five horsepower more than Honda Ridgelines, seven more than Toyota Tacomas, and 15 more than Ford Rangers. Only Chevy Colorados claim more horses.

Shoppers can get a manual transmission or go for the eight-speed automatic. Then there's the matter of four-wheel drive, which is standard across the line-up. Jeep's Command-Trac has been sending the Wrangler into the wild for years. If that's not enough, you can upgrade to the Rubicon with its Rock-Trac system.

Handling is good for a truck this size. It has enough power to stay competitive in busy traffic. Driving enthusiasts should have little to complain about whether they stay on the road or take to the trail.

Coming soon, a diesel edition will join the lineup. This turbo engine generates 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque.

Comfort and Convenience

The large cab actually has more room than the Wrangler Unlimited. Your back row passengers will appreciate class-leading legroom, headrests, and reclining seats. Floors are the easy-clean variety and can be washed out thanks to convenient drains.

Seats are offered in trim-specific cloth upholstery across the line-up. You can also upgrade to black-stitched leather or perforated leather. Illuminated cupholders and available ambient lighting take care of nighttime travel. Leatherette adds softness to the door panels.

A 5-inch UConnect touch screen and eight speakers are standard on the Sport. Higher editions let you graduate to a 7-inch or 8.4-inch screen. Features include Apple CarPlay connectivity, Google Android Auto functionality, and HD radio. Other tech toys include an available Bluetooth speaker and an Alpine audio system.

All Gladiators allow you to fold the rear seats and create a flat cargo floor. The storage area is lit by LED lights. An available second-row storage area can be protected when you lock the second row seats in place. The seats have hidden storage bins that can be divided into multiple compartments. Dual storage nets offer more storage on the cab-back wall.

Safety

Jeep has gone to extra lengths with the Wrangler to ensure passenger safety. Those lessons carry over to the 2020 Jeep Gladiator which was designed from the wheels up with safety in mind. Electronic roll mitigation and other stability controls help it deal with road challenges. Four-wheel drive takes care of snowy or icy weather problems.

Advanced features are on the menu. Adaptive cruise control and forward collision warnings have automatic braking capability. There's a rear park-assist feature, too. Helping the 2020 Jeep Gladiator stay out of the path of cars alongside it, there is standard trailer sway control and an available blind spot monitor.

This midsize truck is a real game-changer. The capability surpasses some light duty full-size rivals, and the open-air, off-roading aspect is unbeatable. You can enjoy some of the fun when you schedule a test drive of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator.

How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Jeep Gladiator

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Jeep Gladiator invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of all the options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here)

Note: All Jeep Gladiator MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
