How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Kia Niro EV

The Kia Niro EV is a sign of what's to come for the automative industry. This electric vehicle doesn't require any gas, and it still manages to be capable and athletic. It has a versatile cabin, which many people are looking for. It also stands out with its advanced technology and refined style.

Performance and Range

This SUV uses an electric motor that can generate 201 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque. These numbers are more than decent, and Sport mode can be selected to make the vehicle feel a little more aggressive. The Kia's responsiveness is great, and it handles itself fairly well.

Unfortunately, it's only available as a front-wheel-drive model. Anyone who frequently deals with slippery conditions may have to look elsewhere for all-wheel-drive capability.

Like many other electric models, the Niro EV has different levels of regenerative braking. This is the term that's used to describe how energy generated when the vehicle is decelerating is captured and converted to electric charge. Drivers can use the paddles mounted on the Niro's steering wheel to adjust the level of regenerative braking.

Range is estimated to be 239 miles. This is a pretty solid number that gives people flexibility and freedom when they travel.

Charging

The Niro EV can be charged using a regular outlet, but be warned that this approach does take awhile. It would take about two and a half days to get a full charge when the vehicle is plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet.

Fortunately, there are other ways to charge this vehicle. It can be connected to a 240-volt system, and in this case, it would take about nine and a half hours to get a full charge. This is still a good chunk of time, but keep in mind that most people end up charging their vehicles overnight when they're not needed. Also note that dealerships are experienced in helping electric-vehicle owners get set up with 240-volt outlets at their residences. This is becoming a more common practice these days.

Public charging stations are even faster than the 240-volt systems. Using a DC fast charger, it takes only an hour and 15 minutes to get to an 80% charge.

Exterior Features

The Niro EV looks modern and sporty. Blue accents, a rear spoiler, and roof rails all contribute to its aesthetic. The side mirrors are far from basic, as they have heaters and LED turn signal indicators built into them. Plus, they have a power-folding function.

There are two available trims, which are the EX and EX Premium. Both have LED daytime running flights, 17-inch wheels, and front fog lights, but only the EX Premium has a power sunroof.

Interior Features

The cabin of the Niro EV is a little more impressive than its exterior. The 10.25-inch touchscreen is quite noticeable. It comes with navigation, SiriusXM, and smartphone integration, so it has plenty of features that people can take advantage of. Those who love listening to music or podcasts on the road will be pleased that the standard Harman Kardon sound system includes eight speakers, one of which is a subwoofer. Wireless charging is another element that's integrated into both trims.

Many convenient components can be found in the Niro EV. For instance, it has automatic climate control to make it easier to keep the cabin comfortable, and it has smart key entry with push-button start. Heated front seats can keep the driver and front passenger cozy and warm when it's chilly out.

The seating material is not the most refined, though. The EX has cloth and SynTex upholstery, while the EX Premium has SynTex seats. Leather isn't an option. However, the EX Premium comes with heated and ventilated front seats, and both trims can be enhanced with heated steering wheels.

Another important factor to mention is how much space the Niro EV has. It's not the biggest two-row model available, as it only has 36 inches of second-row leg room. This should be fine for short rides and for smaller passengers, but for longer trips and/or for tall riders, the back seat might start to feel a little cramped.

Also, the cargo space is not as large as some might like. Behind the seats, there's 18.5 cubic feet of space. It's very easy to lower the rear seats to create more room, and this would increase cargo capacity of 53 cubic feet.

Safety

It's reassuring to know that the Kia Niro EV is equipped with many advanced safety mechanisms. With various mitigation and monitoring systems, it can actively help drivers avoid certain kinds of problematic situations.

For example, it can sense when it's approaching other vehicles too quickly, and it knows when it's drifting out of a lane. In these scenarios, the driver would be alerted, and the Kia could potentially slow itself down or re-center itself in a lane. Other standard safety systems are blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and highway driving assist. Further, the Niro EV can sense when the driver might not be paying full attention to the roads, and if so, it would send out an alert.

The Kia Niro EV has a lot to offer, and of course, it's biggest advantage is that it doesn't require any gasoline. Those who like the idea of efficient, compact crossovers will likely be happy with this model.
