Ram Price Guides:
Ram 1500 2WD Overview:
The Ram 1500 has been around for a while and, for quite a few good reasons, remained a popular vehicle. The 2018 Ram 1500 2wd is no exception to the rule, and this light-duty pickup truck provides one of the best-in-class ride qualities for the 2018 model year. With the option for an air suspension that is self-leveling and a powerful V6 engine that turns this daily driver into an off-roader, the Ram 1500 2wd is a top contender in its class this year.

What's New For 2018?

New for the model year is the Harvest edition and Limited Tungsten trims. A rearview camera is now standard on every model. The Rebel trim now comes with leather upholstery, and the 8.4-inch LCD touchscreen display and infotainment system have been upgraded.

Available Styles

The 2018 Ram 1500 2wd is a full-size pickup that is available as either a regular, quad, or crew cab. Depending on which you choose, you can get a short, standard, or long bed and your choice of three engine options.

Available Trims

There are a whopping 11 trim levels available for the 2018 Ram 1500 2wd, most of which come with the base 3.6-L V6 engine, which generates 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. A 5.7-L V8 comes on the Laramie Longhorn, Limited, and Rebel trims. A 3.0-L V6 diesel is optional on any trim level. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard across the line-up. The base Tradesman trim is a workhorse that features cruise control and a Class IV hitch receiver. The Express is geared for work as well and features upgraded 20-inch wheels. The Big Horn is more feature-laden with its UConnect Access system and 110-volt outlet. The Sport and Night both have similar features, but the Night trim is painted black while the Sport has a variety of color options. The Harvest has all-terrain tires and additional ground clearance, which enhances its off-roading abilities. The Laramie adds a 10-speaker sound system and chic wooden trim while the Laramie Longhorn includes upgraded leather upholstery and keyless ignition and entry. The Limited trim comes as a V8 only and adds the self-leveling air suspension system. The Rebel is the true off-roader of the group, as it is optimized with Bilstein shock absorbers and all-terrain tires.

Driving Impressions

If you're deciding which engine to pick, the diesel is highly recommended. The truck does struggle with acceleration and only get from 0 to 60 mph in 9 seconds. With 420 lb-ft of torque, though, you will have no problem towing and hauling cargo. Also, the brakes have a firm and secure feel to them which makes towing and hauling all the more enjoyable. Steering and handling are truly superb on the 2018 Ram 1500 2wd. Steering feels straightforward and effortless, and you will always know where the wheels are going. For being such a big truck, the 1500 is able to mitigate turns and tight parking spots with relative ease. If you plan on off-roading, the Rebel trim's powertrain provides smooth transitions and can tackle virtually any terrain. Overall, the 1500 puts in a solid driving performance this year.

Fuel Economy

While the V8 is a popular choice, it is thirsty, getting 18 mpg combined (16 city/22 highway) on the 2wd. The V6 with 2wd does better, netting 20 mpg combined (17 city/25 highway), while the 3.0-L turbodiesel boosts you up to 24 combined mpg (22 city/29 highway).

By sticking with the turbodiesel, you will find that the 2018 Ram 1500 2wd is an excellent combination of power and efficiency. There are plenty of configurations to choose from, so there is bound to be a 1500 that fits your unique needs.

How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Ram 1500 2WD:

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Ram 1500 2WD invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here.)

Note: All Ram 1500 2WD MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
