Although the new BRZ may force you to go without some amenities, it’s still quite well-equipped for the price.

To the delight of serious driving enthusiasts, Subaru has brought back the BRZ’s track-ready tS trim. Not only does this trim have a special look, but it also comes equipped with a few extra performance goodies. Last year’s base model has been removed from the lineup.
What Styles Does It Come In?
The 2020 Subaru BRZ is a compact sports coupe, which seats up to four people. Power is sent to the rear wheels.
What Are the Available Trims?
There are now only two BRZ trims: Limited and tS. Most people will likely choose the more affordable Limited trim. It comes standard with highly desired creature comforts liked heated sport seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. Subaru’s Starlink touchscreen interface is another big highlight, which provides Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration and navigation. Other goodies consist of push-button ignition, Bluetooth, an eight-speaker stereo.
Aside from exclusive styling treatments, the BRZ tS doesn’t feel much different from the entry-level Limited trim. However, it does come equipped with better performance tires and an upgraded suspension.
The BRZ’s Exterior
The 2020 Subaru BRZ looks a lot like the mechanically similar 2020 Toyota 86. It has the proportions of a pure sports car. LED headlamps and attractive 17-inch alloy wheels come standard. An aggressive rear spoiler helps accentuate the car’s sleekness.
Although the base Limited trim is a head-turner in its own right, there are some special touches on the limited-edition tS model. A larger set of 18-inch bronze wheels and red accenting give it a unique appearance.
Every new 2020 Subaru BRZ is motivated by an inline-four engine, which develops just over 200 horsepower. This is an ideal output for first-time sports car owners. Although the BRZ may not blow you away with blistering acceleration, it’s quick enough to keep the driving experience fun. Although a six-speed automatic transmission is offered, performance won’t be nearly as good. To maximize the engine’s output, choose the standard six-speed manual gearbox.
The 2020 Subaru BRZ handles just as well as cars that are three times as expensive. You’ll love attacking corners in the new BRZ. Sports-tuned shocks and a limited-slip differential are standard. If you need more grip for the track, go for the tS trim. It comes equipped with a more aggressive suspension and heat-resistant Brembo brakes.
Although the 2020 Subaru requires the use of premium gas, you shouldn’t have to spend a lot of money on fuel. If you drive casually, the BRZ can easily return up to 33 mpg with its optional automatic transmission. Although the manual-equipped BRZ isn’t as efficient, most drivers won’t mind averaging 29 mpg on the highway.
Quality and Comfort
While the 2020 Subaru BRZ isn’t a high-end sports car, its build quality is commendable. The interior materials are durable enough to withstand years of driving.
You can expect the BRZ to offer a satisfying level of comfort. Its well-bolstered seats provide the necessary support for daily trips. Despite being a small coupe, the BRZ manages to provide enough space to accommodate most long-legged drivers. However, one weak point is the car’s very tiny backseat. Although the BRZ’s trunk may seem small, folding rear seats allow you to make room for larger items like track tires.
Crash protection for the 2020 Subaru BRZ is about average for a performance car. During last year’s testing, it received a four-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. However, the BRZ did receive one of the segment’s best rollover ratings. This is a testament to the car’s excellent stability.
The basic safety features are standard on the new BRZ, including four-wheel disc brakes and a rear camera. You’ll also receive an adjustable traction control system. Unfortunately, Subaru doesn’t offer the BRZ with popular options like forward collision warning.
