How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Subaru WRX

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Subaru WRX invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of all the options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here)

Subaru WRX Overview:

The 2022 Subaru WRX is an appealing compact sports sedan. With Subaru’s full-time Symmetrical AWD system being a standard feature, this isn’t a performance car that needs to be parked during the winter. A strong turbo engine and dynamic handing also help ensure a jubilant driving experience. Meanwhile, there’s enough interior room to please drivers who routinely travel with other passengers.

What’s New for 2022?

The redesigned WRX boasts a roomier cabin and a more refined exterior design. Subaru’s Starlink multimedia system now offers a bigger 11.6-inch touchscreen. A new engine with slightly more muscle arrives as well.

What Styles Does It Come In?

The 2022 Subaru WRX is a compact sedan that satisfies up to five passengers. Every trim receives a full-time AWD system as standard equipment.

What Are the Available Trims?

The WRX’s new lineup has four trim levels. Drivers looking for the least expensive option will want the base WRX. Its standard infotainment unit features dual 7.0-inch touchscreens. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included in the interface’s list of multimedia features. Other standard equipment includes automatic temperature control, a six-speaker stereo with satellite radio, and a rear-seat reminder.

Stepping up to the WRX Premium rewards buyers with a much better 11.6-inch touchscreen. It also seeks to enhance comfort by adding three-mode heated front seats and dual-zone automatic temperature control. A more entertaining Harman Kardon sound system and a power sunroof are on the Premium trim’s list of optional equipment.

A 10-way adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support is found inside the Limited trim. Ultrasuede upholstery with red stitching adds a special touch. The Premium trim’s optional 11-speaker Harman Kardon also comes standard on the Limited trim.

Unlike the other trims, the WRX GT features electronically adjustable ride control. Lightweight Recaro racing seats are also on the GT trim’s list of standard equipment. Remember, Subaru only offers the WRX GT with an automatic transmission.

The WRX’s Exterior Styling

The all-new 2022 Subaru WRX looks a bit different from its predecessor. Longtime Subaru fans will quickly notice its thinner LED headlights and wider stance. Plastic fenders further differentiate the new model. Luckily, this car still comes equipped with a functional hood scoop. Quad exhaust finishers give the rear fascia a racy touch.

While some drivers will like the WRX’s traditional colors, Subaru also offers bold options such as Solar Orange Pearl. A set of 17-inch sport wheels come standard on the base model. Higher trim levels receive larger 18-inch wheels.

Driving Experience

The WRX returns with a slightly larger turbo four-cylinder engine. Output has increased to 271 horsepower. Although the new engine is not dramatically more powerful, it does feel more responsive. Expect the new WRX to clock a 0-60 mph time of around 5.4 seconds. Buyers can decide between a six-speed manual gearbox and an automatic CVT with manual modes.

This car is a ton of fun. Driving enthusiasts will like the WRX’s buttoned-down handling and accurate steering. While the WRX’s suspension is still a bit on the stiff side, test drivers say that the new model rides smoother. A full-time Symmetrical AWD system helps the sedan to grip the pavement. For good reason, the all-weather WRX is a popular pick in snow-prone regions.

Fuel Economy

The federal government gives the manual-equipped WRX a fuel economy rating of 19 mpg town/26 mpg freeway. Models mated to an automatic CVT have a rating of 19 mpg town/25 mpg freeway. Premium gasoline is required for peak horsepower and torque.

Quality and Comfort

The WRX has a simple interior design. While Subaru furnishes the cabin with quality materials, wind and road noise are present at higher speeds. Furthermore, some drivers will prefer the car’s larger 11.6-inch touchscreen over the standard dual-display setup. To make the WRX more appealing to drivers, Subaru adds a flat-bottom steering wheel and racy pedals.

There is now more legroom in the WRX’s backseat, which will benefit adult-sized passengers. However, taller people may desire more headroom when sitting in the rear. Although some competitors provide more cargo space, owners will still appreciate the redesigned WRX’s larger trunk.

Safety

While crash-test scores are currently unavailable, the 2022 Subaru WRX does offer the latest Subaru EyeSight driver-assist technologies. Models equipped with an automatic transmission receive pre-collision braking, lane-centering assist, and smart cruise control. To get blind-spot sensing, buyers must step up to one of the higher WRX grades.

The redesigned 2022 Subaru WRX offers fun and practicality. It remains an exciting sports car that can be driven in all weather conditions. Be sure to take this performance sedan for a test drive!

Note: All Subaru WRX MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
