Toyota Land Cruiser Overview:

Some drivers do not want to choose between off-road ruggedness and luxury. The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser makes it so they do not have to. Plus, this large SUV has a well-earned reputation for being reliable. Not many changes have been made for the new model year, although drivers can now choose to add a third-row to the top-of-the-line Heritage Edition. It also gets two new paint options, known as Magnetic Gray and Classic Silver. Otherwise, it moves into 2021 offering the same power, comfort, and capability that drivers have come to expect.

Performance Stats

One engine and transmission combo is available for the 2021 Land Cruiser. The 5.7L V8 will have drivers making 381-horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. It uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to keep things moving along smoothly. The hearty setup gives the Land Cruiser the ability to tow up to 8,100 pounds.

The Land Cruiser's off-road capability is truly impressive. Full-time four-wheel drive is part of the equation. This vehicle also comes standard with crawl control and a terrain-select system so that drivers can handle a wide variety of surfaces and conditions. If that is not enough, also found on all models are tow hooks, a variety of skid plates, a locking rear differential, an electronic sway bar disconnect, and all-terrain tires.

Interior Space

The Land Cruiser is perfect for adventurous families thanks to its three-row seating. There is more than enough head and legroom in the first two rows and children should be comfortable riding in the very back. In total, there is room for up to eight people. The exception is the Heritage Edition, which comes standard with two rows.

As far as miscellaneous gear goes, the Land Cruiser offers a good deal of space. When drivers leave all of the seats alone, there are 16.1 cubic feet. Without the third row, the cargo area opens up to 41.4 cubic feet. The back seats easily flip up to the side to make this happen. As far as the maximum cargo capacity goes, the Land Cruiser offers 82.8 cubic feet, which is spot-on for a large luxury SUV.

Interior Quality

There are just two versions of the Land Cruiser, both of which are loaded with luxurious interior features. The standard model has heated and ventilated front seats as well as four-zone automatic climate control. There is also heat for the second-row bench seat and the steering wheel. Durable and comfortable leather upholstery is found throughout. For the Heritage Edition, bronze accent stitching is added to the seats and dashboard.

Safety Features

All of the highly-advanced safety features for the 2021 Land Cruiser are standard. It is easy to find a place to leave your SUV thanks to the front and rear parking sensors and the surround-view camera system. Driving strain is reduced with features like automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control.

The 2021 Land Cruiser also keeps people safe, both inside the vehicle and out, by using driver aids. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is found on all models. Rounding out the standard driver aids are popular features like pedestrian detection, forward-collision warnin, and automatic emergency braking.

Technology

Any respectable luxury SUV offers cutting-edge technology. The Land Cruiser definitely checks this box, coming standard with a 9-inch touchscreen and 14-speaker sound system. That impressive sound system is perfect for enjoying both satellite and HD radio, both of which are standard. The Land Cruiser does not offer smartphone integration through Android Auto or Apple CarPlay but does come with Bluetooth.

A smartphone charging pad is also found in the cabin of all Land Cruiser models. There is some optional equipment as well, namely the rear-seat entertainment system. It consists of two 11.6-inch screens, two sets of headphones, and a DVD player.

Trim Levels

Buyers have a fairly straightforward choice. They either want the standard Land Cruiser or the Land Cruiser Heritage Edition. Since the standard model has the same tech, safety, and performance features, it will be more than enough to satisfy most.

So why would anyone choose the Heritage Edition? This model honors the legacy of the Land Cruiser, which has been around for over 60 years. It adds vintage badges and some black exterior accents to the SUV. Also found on this model are bronze wheels and an impressive roof rack. Now that it has the option of adding the third-row seat, this model may appeal to those who need room for eight but are also after a bit of nostalgia.

The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser does a beautiful job of blending capability with sophistication. There really is no other vehicle quite like it out there.

How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Toyota Land Cruiser

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Toyota Land Cruiser invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of all the options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here)

Note: All Toyota Land Cruiser MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
