Toyota Prius c Overview:

The 2019 Toyota Prius c is an affordable hybrid that can make sense for many drivers. Rather than keeping four different trims from previous years, Toyota decided to keep the middle two trim levels and renamed them the L and LE. This is a change over the trim names "One", "Two," "Three," and "Four" that were previously used. Getting over 40 miles per gallon, both models qualify as Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles (SULEV).

The 2019 Toyota Prius c has its own distinct look. As a hatchback, it has 17.1 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats. Those seats can be put down for more room or if people are carrying bulky objects in the back.

Inside the vehicle, there is adequate leg room in both the front and back rows. Up front, a center-mounted display shows data related to the engine/battery system. The touch-screen is fairly easy to get used to, and the speaker system provides a rich sound.

In terms of exterior paint, there are seven choices. Tide Pool Pearl is a unique type of greenish blue, and Blizzard Pearl and Classic Silver Metallic are light shades that can shine. Black Sand Pearl and Magnetic Gray Metallic are sleeker dark colors, and Absolutely Red and Blue Streak Metallic are bold choices.

Accessories such as alloy wheel locks, all-weather floor liners, and body side molding are available to upgrade the overall appearance of the car. The standard interior comes with a gray/black two-tone fabric.

Trim Levels on the 2019 Toyota Prius c

The 2019 Toyota Prius c comes in two models: L and LE. There are few differences between the levels, the first of which is the entry system. The L uses a remote keyless entry system that illuminates the vehicle upon entry, and the LE relies on the Smart Key System on the front doors and lift gate. It also has a push button start and remote illuminated entry.

Another difference is related to the audio system. They both have a 6.1" touch-screen display, but the LE has the Entune Premium Audio system as opposed to the Entune Audio system in the L. The L's system comes with hands-free phone capability, music streaming, and advanced voice recognition, so it certainly has many useful features. The Premium Audio includes those previously mentioned benefits along with integrated Navigation, HD Radio, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio compatibility.

In addition, the LE comes with a power tilt-and-slide moonroof so people can easily open things up. The sliding sunshade can provide protection on warmer hot days.

Driving the 2019 Toyota Prius C

Each of these cars runs on a 1.5L, four-cylinder ECVT Hybrid engine. 99 horsepower is sent to the front wheels through an efficient, continuously variable transmission. The engine provides enough power to easily get around a city or take people on adventures. The nickel-metal battery is kept under the back seat, and it delivers power to the supplemental 45-kilowatt electric motor.

Since the 2019 Prius c is considered a subcompact vehicle, it fits well in small spaces and can get maneuvered around tight corners without a problem. The "c" in its name stands for "city," indicating how practical it can be on busy streets with limited parking.

If preferred, drivers can select EV/ECO mode. This mode sets up electric driving, which the car will exclusively use for up to one mile. To optimize its use of power, the ECO Mode puts limits on the use of climate control and makes adjustments to the throttle.

Safety

The vehicle has earned a NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety Rating and is equipped with a comprehensive air bag system. Nine air bags are located throughout the car, protecting the front and rear passengers in case of any impacts or sudden changes in direction. F

Further, they're built with Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C) and the Star Safety System. TSS-C helps drivers look out for and avoid objects through its Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. It will alert drivers to a potential front impact and can even start applying some pressure to the brakes. Automatic high beams illuminate the road more clearly, and Lane Departure Alert - through the use of a sensor placed on your windshield - lets people know when they're about to veer out of their lane.

The Star Safety System includes various features that improve handling, such as Anti-lock Brakes that can work to prevent skidding and a Traction Control system that adjusts the throttle and brake so that wheels can maintain grip with the road. It also has Smart Stop Technology that assist the vehicle in coming to a stop in certain situations.

Where the Prius C Shines

Both models of the 2019 Prius C get an estimated 48/43/46 (city/highway/combined) miles per gallon. Given the price of gas, driving this vehicle can be a smart idea if anyone would like to save money and do their part to conserve resources.

How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Toyota Prius c

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Toyota Prius c invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of all the options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here)

Note: All Toyota Prius c MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
