How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Volkswagen Atlas:

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Volkswagen Atlas invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here.)

Volkswagen Atlas Overview:

The 2022 Atlas is the largest vehicle in Volkswagen's current lineup. It is comfortable, spacious, and offers polished handling. This vehicle is still in its first generation, which made its debut in 2018. It has made enough changes every year to stay fresh, however. The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is the complete package, and drivers are encouraged to dive into the details.

What's New for 2022?

This year, the S trim has been discontinued. That makes the SE is the entry-level model. While this does mean that the Atlas now has a higher starting price, Volkswagen did reduce the price of the SE a bit this year. Also new for 2022 is the addition of third-row USB ports to the SE with Technology model.

Performance Stats

Buyers get two powertrains to choose from when it comes to the 2022 Atlas. A turbocharged 2.0L is standard, and models with this underneath the hood make 235-horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Select trims can upgrade to a 3.6L V6 that puts out 276-horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Starting with the SEL, the Atlas comes standard with all-wheel drive. Models with the four-cylinder engine can only tow up to 2,000 pounds. As for properly-equipped V6 models, they can bring along up to 5,000 pounds.

Fuel Economy

The most fuel-efficient version of the 2022 Atlas would be the one with front-wheel drive and the four-cylinder engine. It is estimated to get 21mpg in the city and 25mpg on the highway. Going to all-wheel drive with the base engine will drop both of those numbers down by just one.

Choosing the V6 and staying with the front-wheel drive will mean getting 18mpg in the city and 24mpg on the highway. All-wheel-drive V6 models get 17mpg city and 23mpg highway.

Safety Features

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given the 2022 Atlas five out of five stars overall. All models are equipped with blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision mitigation, and rear cross-traffic alert. SE with Technology models add front and rear parking sensors, along with adaptive cruise control.

SEL models on up get adaptive headlights and lane-keeping assist. Blind-spot intervention is also included. That last feature can actually steer the Atlas back into its own lane if there is a vehicle in its blind spot. The top trim level is known as the SEL Premium R-Line, and it adds a 360-degree camera system and an automated parking system.

Cutting-Edge Tech

A 6.5-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster greet drivers when they sit down inside of the 2022 Atlas SE. This model also comes standard with a Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The SE with Technology trim level goes up to an 8-inch touchscreen, plus adds a wireless charging pad and voice controls. That trim also adds USB ports to both the second and third rows.

The SEL trim level comes equipped with navigation. Going with the SEL Premium R-Line will mean getting a Fender sound system with 12 speakers, plus ambient interior lighting.

Interior Space

The 2022 Atlas is a three-row SUV that can seat either six or seven. Both the front rows are very spacious, and the third row can seat adults on shorter trips. There are 20.6 cubic feet of space behind the third row, and 55.5 cubic feet behind the second row. When drivers fold down both of the back rows, the Atlas offers up a respectable 96.8 cubic feet.

Interior Quality

Like many vehicles from Volkswagen, the Atlas has a clean and modern cabin. It feels upscale, at least at first glance. A closer look reveals a decent number of hard plastics, at least in the lower trim levels. Higher trim levels add more and more luxury, with available interior upgrades including heated and ventilated front-row seats, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, and three-zone automatic climate control.

Exterior Design

The 2022 Atlas is available in the SEL R-Line Black trim level, which gives it gloss black 20-inch wheels and black badges. This model also shows off black mirror caps and a black grille. The entire lineup shows off things like LED headlights and taillights, plus the clean yet sophisticated style that Volkswagen is known for.

Families will love the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas, thanks to its spacious cabin and a large number of convenience and comfort features. Buyers are encouraged to schedule a test drive soon.

Note: All Volkswagen Atlas MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
