Chevrolet Trailblazer Overview:

2020 vs 2021: What's the Difference?

After taking a break that lasted more than a decade, the Trailblazer is back. For 2021, Chevy has revived the Trailblazer name with an all-new subcompact crossover/SUV. This model is a bit funky, with an athletic feel and interesting stylistic details. It feels youthful and modern, while also being practical.

What Do the Various Trim Levels Offer?

The L trim starts things out. It has a 1.2-liter engine and is limited to having front-wheel drive. It can actively work to keep people safe with automatic emergency braking and a few other advanced safety components. It has 16-inch steel wheels and halogen headlights and taillamps. Inside the cabin, it has four speakers, cloth seats, and a 60/40 split bench in the second row.

At the LS level, all-wheel drive becomes available, as does a more capable engine. The wheels on the LS measure 17 inches; this is a small but noticeable upgrade over the base model's wheels. The LS has six speakers and comes standard with carpeted floor mats and a compass.

With the LT, things start to look a little more sophisticated, as this trim has tinted privacy glass and LED fog lamps. It has several convenient features, such as a power-adjustable driver's seat and heated front seats. Its keyless open system can make it simple to access the cabin.

The Activ and RS come standard with the stronger engine. The RS has 18-inch wheels and black exterior accents while the Activ has titanium and chrome front and rear fascias. In terms of available seating upholstery, their styles differ as well. The RS has cloth and leatherette seats as standard components, and it offers the option of getting black material with red accents. The Activ is the only trim to have standard leatherette seats.

Which Trim is Right for Me?

People who follow the automotive industry will notice that the Trailblazer is a pretty affordable model. The Activ and RS are priced at the same level, and since they're not too expensive, they should appeal to customers who want nicer elements in their vehicles and want the opportunity to upgrade their technology.

If the more refined features aren't necessary, the LT would be a good choice. It has modern amenities like keyless entry and heated front seats, but it's not burdened by any extra costs. The other trims are also attractive, especially from a financial standpoint. They'd be ideal for people who don't need any extras and simply want reliable vehicles with smartphone connectivity and a few advanced safety systems.

What Kind of Technology Does it Have?

Chevy has made every Trailblazer capable of acting as a Wi-Fi hotspot. People who work from the road or those who like to stream audio and/or keep their passengers entertained will appreciate this.

A seven-inch touchscreen is standard, though the higher trims can be upgraded with eight-inch touchscreens. The standard technology package includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. When the larger touchscreen is integrated into the cabin, a few more apps may be supported. Also, the eight-inch touchscreen has better voice recognition capabilities.

How Does It Perform?

Two engines are available with the Trailblazer. They're pretty similar to each other, as they're both EcoTec turbo engines. The standard version has a displacement of 1.2 liters, and it can generate 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The other version is slightly larger with a displacement of 1.3 liters. This size advantage comes along with an increase in power. The 1.3-liter engine delivers 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.

The 1.2-liter engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission, and the other version uses a nine-speed automatic transmission. The truth is that most drivers won't be able to tell the difference between the two. That being said, the nine-speed transmission might offer some more excitement.

An important note is that all-wheel drive is available only when the 1.3-liter turbo engine is selected. With all-wheel drive, the vehicle can have more traction when the roads are slippery.

Is It Safe and Reliable?

This Chevrolet model comes with many driver-assist systems. This means that the vehicle can actually watch out for potential problems and warn drivers about certain types of issues. It can be very useful to get an alert when approaching a pedestrian too quickly, following another car too closely, or drifting out of a lane. Hopefully, a driver would be able to react appropriately, but if not, the Trailblazer could correct its steering and/or slow itself down to avoid an accident.

Every Trailblazer has a rearview mirror to give people a better idea of what's behind them. Some trims have a rear park assist feature that gives out warnings when the Chevy is getting too close to objects. Plus, the crossover could come with rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitoring to make drivers more aware of what's around them.

What's the Interior Like?

As a relatively compact vehicle, the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer may be ideal for many potential buyers. While it doesn't have a large footprint, it still offers nearly 40 inches of leg room in its second row. Cargo volume in the back is about 25 cubic feet, and cargo capacity can be expanded to almost 55 cubic feet when the second-row seats are lowered. The size and versatility of the Trailblazer are likely to draw attention from drivers who may occasionally need room for larger items.

If people want to treat themselves to something upscale, there are many available upgrades. The Trailblazer can feature heated front seats, leatherette upholstery, and leather on the steering wheel and shift knob. The lower trims have more basic features, like cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats, but they certainly offer comfort.

What are the Alternatives to this Model?

In recent years, the market has seen an increase in the number of compact SUVs available. Some alternatives to the 2021 Trailblazer are the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, and Mazda CX-30.
