GMC Yukon Overview:

2020 vs 2021: What's the Difference?

The GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV that has been around since 1993. Only getting better with time, we though the 2020 GMC Yukon was quite impressive. Yet, we had no idea what the 2021 GMC Yukon had in store for us. Though many of the design elements of the GMC Yukon remained the same between its 2020 and 2021 models, many of the changes that can be found within the 2021 GMC Yukon focus on this SUV's body style and frame. In fact, the 2021 GMC Yukon shares a brand-new platform with the respective Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. While this is no shock since both companies are owned by the same entity, we are in awe of its new reliance on an independent rear suspension for its 2021 model. Breaking ground for full-size GMC vehicles, the 2021 GMC Yukon is the first of its kid to offer this feature.

What Do the Various Trim Levels Offer?

The 2021 GMC Yukon offers four different trim levels for you to choose from. Keeping it simple, yet versatile, this trim level lineup provides many options to choose from without being overwhelming. The base model SLE resembles the SLT so closely that these two trims are often considered together. Both trims feature keyless open, acoustic laminated glass, and GMC Connected Access integration. Yet, the SLE and SLT differ in a few exterior and interior aesthetic attributes. One example of this is the standard 17-inch tires of the SLE that are replaced with 18-inch aluminum wheels in the SLT.

The 2021 GMC Yukon AT4 is a unique model that, unlike other trims, is only available in four-wheel drive. Made with the natural capability to venture off-road, the AT4 features standard amenities like 20-inch all-terrain tires, roof rails, and body-colored and heated exterior mirrors. The 2021 GMC Yukon is fun in its AT4 format, the exclusive Denali is shiny and upscale. This model boasts hand-stitched leather on the inside, heated and ventilated front seats, and a power liftgate in the rear.

Which Trim is Right for Me?

The ideal trim level for each buyer is dependent upon their expected use and lifestyle tendencies. Those who plan on using the Yukon as a commuting vehicle or for family transport will find the SLE and SLT models are sufficient. The moderate comfort and convenience amenities of these two models provide a level of exclusivity even in the base levels. Yet, those who enjoy off-roading, camping, and time away from crowded city streets will enjoy the standard offerings of the 2021 GMC Yukon AT4. With a rough and tough attitude, the AT4 is ready for a bold adventure. The GMC Yukon Denali model is the highest trim level available and has the attributes to match. Prestigious and assertive, this model is made for those who demand the best automotive quality available.

What Kind of Technology Does it Have?

Technology that is spread throughout the 2021 GMC Yukon is what many buyers enjoy the most about this vehicle. While it does boast a seriously cool, color infotainment display, it also offers power front seats to enhance comfort and a surround vision camera to maintain awareness of our surroundings. Unlike other full-size SUV models, the GMC Yukon spreads its technology offerings throughout the vehicle in a way that does not just incorporate entertainment. Heated second-row seats, hitch guidance, and a power-sliding center console can even be found in some models.

How Does It Perform?

Not only is the 2021 GMC Yukon powerful and resilient, but it is also environmentally-conscious. While a base 5.3-liter V8 engine can produce 355 horsepower when joined with a 10-speed automatic transmission, GMC also offers a package that ensures this SUV meets federal guidelines for emissions standards. Automatic start/stop technology encourages fuel efficiency, and flex fuel capabilities give you the choice between different fueling options. Aside from its efficiency features, the 2021 GMC Yukon is also a beast. It has a towing capacity of up to 7,900 pounds in its most equipped models.

Is It Safe and Reliable?

Safety and reliability are at the forefront of this vehicle's priority list. Produce by an automaker that is known for producing durable, quality vehicles, the GMC Yukon comes from a long line of reputable vehicle models. It intends to maintain that assumption, while adding in a plethora of safety features to prove its commitment to passenger well-being. An airbag system consisting of six or seven air bags, standard OnStar and GMC Connected Services, and a rear seat reminder can be found on all models. Other driver-assistive safety features include modern amenities like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking. While some of these are standard on certain models, others must be paid for as upgrades.

What's the Interior Like?

Upscale and comfortable are the two descriptive words that are commonly used to address the cabin of the 2021 GMC Yukon. This SUV takes comfort and convenience seriously. It also adds in some style along the way. Perforated leather seating, easy-to-fold second-row seats, and a standard remote start feature are a few favorites. This SUV is so upscale that cloth seating is not even offered. Even the entry-level SLE trim is outfitted only with leather upholstery.

What are the Alternatives to this Model?

The full-size SUV market is becoming even more saturated by the day, but the GMC Yukon is a model that continues to excel. Rivals, like the Chevy Tahoe, the Lincoln Navigator, and the Ford Expedition, compete aggressively with this model. Yet the 2021 GMC Yukon proves it is here to stay.
