Honda Civic Overview:

The Honda Civic sedan is a popular compact car that Honda has been producing for a long time. Car buyers continue to be loyal to the Civic due to the great driving experience, interior features and safety ratings. The 2021 Honda Civic is expected to once again be one of the best-selling and most popular vehicles in the compact car class.

2020 vs 2021: What's the Difference?

There are a few improvements and changes to the 2021 Honda Civic sedan that were not available with the prior model year. One change has been the introduction to the Type R Limited trim, which offers an impressive package of engine performance and interior features. The SL trim has been removed with the 2021 model year.

What Do the Various Trim Levels Offer?

The 2021 Honda Civic has many different trim levels to consider. The base trim level for the Civic is the LX, which is then followed by the Sport, EX, EX-L, Touring, Sport Touring and Limited Edition trims. All of these will come with standard CVT transmission, but can be modified to have the optional manual transmission.

The main difference between the trims is the engine option and the tech and luxury packages. The LX trim comes with the standard base engine and the base tech and luxury packages. Those that want the most engine performance and plenty of interior features should upgrade to the Limited Edition trim.

Which Trim is Right for Me?

Picking a trim for the 2021 Civic is a big decision. When you are considering your options, you should think about what is most important for you. If a high performance engine and plenty of interior and safety features is important, the Touring, Sport Touring or Limited trims could be your best option. If you are satisfied with the base engine and do not need all of the upgrades available, the LX trim may be acceptable to you.

What Kind of Technology Does it Have?

If you are interested in a sedan that has plenty of tech features, the 2021 Civic is a good car to consider. The base model provides a five-inch display that is used to control the infotainment system. There is also standard Bluetooth connectivity and various USB ports. When you upgrade to a higher trim, you can enjoy a larger seven-inch display, more USB ports and it can be connected to include both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

How Does It Perform?

Engine performance for the Honda Civic will vary based on the engine option that you choose. The base engine option, which comes standard in the LX and Sport trims, is a four-cylinder engine that will produce around 160 horsepower. This is comparable to base engine performance provided in other vehicles in this class. Buyers will also have the opportunity to upgrade to one of three other engine options.

For those that choose the EX, EX-L and Touring trims, the base options is a turbocharged engine that produces around 175 horsepower. Those that upgrade to the Sport Touring trim will receive a turbocharged engine that produces around 180 horsepower. Those that would like the best engine performance possible can upgrade to the Type R and Type R Limited trims, which will produce around 305 horsepower.

All of the trims come standard with front-wheel drive and will come with a standard CVT engine. Those that want more control when driving may choose the six-speed manual transmission. Fuel efficiency for the Civic sedan is very good. With the base engine, you will receive around 35 MPG on a blended basis. Those that upgrade to the highest engine could see this decline to 26 MPG.

Is It Safe and Reliable?

Each year, the Honda Civic receives good safety ratings. With the 2021 model year, drivers will once again know they are behind the wheel of a safe car. Both the IIHS and NHTSA have provided their top overall ratings for the 2021 Civic. Part of the reason that the Civic has received good safety ratings is due to the fact that it has a strong package of standard safety features. These include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and lane keep assist. When you upgrade to a higher technology package with one of the higher trims, you will also receive blind spot monitoring and a few other features that can keep you safe when on the road.

What's the Interior Like?

The Honda Civic offers a comfortable interior. All models of the Civic will comfortably sit five passengers, except for the R trim that will only sit four. The standard base model comes standard with a cloth interior. However, this can be upgraded to leather with the higher trims and luxury packages. With the higher trims, you will also receive power adjustable seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated seats in the front.

While most compact cars are not well known for cargo space, the 2021 Honda Civic has ample space for most owners. The standard Civic has close to 16 cubic feet of space in the trunk, which is above average compared to the competition. Those that get the Touring trim will lose about one cubic foot of cargo space in the trunk.

What are the Alternatives to this Model?

The Honda Civic continues to be one of the best selling compact cars each year. If you are looking for a new compact, there are others available as well. Some of the other alternatives to the 2021 Civic include the Mazda3, the Kia Forte and the Toyota Corolla. The 2021 Civic continues to compare favorably in terms of safety, engine performance and driving experience.
