Hyundai Veloster Overview:

2020 vs 2021: What's the Difference?

The Hyundai Veloster has gained its reputation as a fun hatchback from its easy-to-drive attitude and love for adventure. Taking passengers where they have never been before, this exciting hatchback is sporty in style and capable under the hood. In fact, Hyundai was so satisfied with the 2020 version of the Hyundai Veloster that it left everything as is for its 2021 rendition. You read that right. There are no notable changes for the 2021 Hyundai Veloster. Yet, that is not to say this vehicle is not just as modern and savvy as it was in 2020. In fact, the 2021 Hyundai Veloster is still a strong competitor thanks to its eccentric style and unmatched manufacturer warranty.

What Do the Various Trim Levels Offer?

Much like the year prior, the 2021 Hyundai Veloster offers five varying trim levels to choose from. While this hatchback maintains its signature style across all models, each one is accessorized in a different manner. The 2.0, the 2.0 Premium, the Turbo R-Spec, the Turbo, and the Turbo Ultimate make up the 2021 trim lineup for the Hyundai Veloster. The 2.0 kicks things off with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen display. It incorporates a rear view monitor for hazard detection and forward-collision assistance as a driver assistive safety feature.

The 2.0 Premium uses the same engine but incorporates additional accessories that amplify the style of this model. A power sliding sunroof, premium audio system, and 18-inch wheels made of alloy put the finishing touches on this trim. To follow that up, the Turbo R-Spec is quite capable and is the choice we would select in the 2021 Hyundai Veloster trim lineup. Its 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is zippy and quick, while its 18-inch sport tires show off its athletic style. Sport-tuned steering and suspension create a fun driving experience in this model.

Nearing the top of the lineup, the 2021 Hyundai Veloster Turbo uses the same engine as the Turbo R-Spec and incorporates some of the same design facets as the 2.0 Premium. It is equipped with a sunroof, 18-inch wheels with all season tires, and wireless device charging. Topping that, the Turbo Ultimate offers the best of the best in this model. An enhanced 8.0-inch touchscreen, head-up display, and leather upholstery are available in this upscale model.

Which Trim is Right for Me?

Your vehicle usage will help guide you toward the 2021 Hyundai Veloster model that is right for you. If you enjoy a basic feel with a few amenities, the 2.0 or 2.0 Premium will meet your expectations. Yet, if you are a bit more athletic and enjoy living life in the fast lane, the Turbo R-Spec is a popular choice among consumers who have more of a thrill-seeking nature. The Turbo, itself, provides a great balance between a few other trim levels. This makes it optimal for those who enjoy a little excitement with the modern amenities offered in other models. Taking over as the highest trim level available, the Turbo Premium is the best there is. It offers enhanced interior facets and premium exterior attributes, making it the perfect choice for those interested in the latest and greatest automotive options.

What Kind of Technology Does it Have?

The 2021 Hyundai Veloster features a wide array of technology elements that are specific to the individual trim levels they occupy. The color touchscreen feature for this hatchback spans in size from seven to eight inches, along with a navigation add-in as an upgrade. A hands-free phone system with voice navigation and automatic volume control that is speed sensitive are also included in all models. Yet, some features are more exclusive, like the wireless phone charging pad and automatic temperature control with defogging capabilities.

How Does It Perform?

The two different engine options of the 2021 Hyundai Veloster are the only ones available, but that does not mean they are subpar. Producing a range of 147 to 210 horsepower, this small hatchback can also put out 132 to 195 lb.-ft. of torque. As a result, this car is quick and zippy but well-grounded. It handles corners nicely, due to its low stature. It also takes on busy city streets rather well, because of its small size. Three different transmission selections put the power of choice into the hands of buyers, as well.

Is It Safe and Reliable?

Though we have not yet received access to safety ratings for this vehicle from national agencies, its 2020 version was awarded a Top Safety Pick designation. Due to the lack of changes from 2020 to 2021, we only expect the same results in the most recent version of the Hyundai Veloster. Many driver assistive safety features are made standard in this vehicle, which must contribute to its enhanced safety rankings of past years. In fact, you will find automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and forward-collision warning as standard inclusions in this hatchback. Others, like blind-spot monitoring, are available as upgrades.

What's the Interior Like?

If you expect the inside of the 2021 Hyundai Veloster to be just as quirky as the outside, you are spot on. Modern craftsmanship and a lack of downgraded materials compliment this hatchback's sporty aesthetic well. Sport stitching adorns the front seats, which provides a characteristic look that matches the outside well. Sitting low to the ground, entering, and exiting the seats of the 2021 Hyundai Veloster is relatively comfortable and natural.

What are the Alternatives to this Model?

The 2021 Hyundai Veloster is a vehicle with an attitude of its own, but that does not mean rivals do not try to mimic it. In fact, the Honda Civic and the Mazda3 are often viewed as alternatives to this sporty hatchback model. No matter what vehicle you view as an alternative, there will never be another that can compare to the Hyundai Veloster.
