2020 vs 2021: What's the Difference?
The 2021 Maxima has fewer trim options than its predecessor. For this model year, the S and SL have been taken off the list. However, there has been an addition to the lineup - the 40th Anniversary Edition. This trim commemorates the long history of the sedan. This trim has many high-end features plus some extra details that give it a more aggressive appearance.
What Do the Various Trim Levels Offer?
Nissan has made the 2021 Maxima in four trims. They're all fairly refined, and there are actually more similarities than differences when examining all of the trims.
Things are nicely equipped in the SV, which is the base model. Some other Nissan models have an S trim as their base model, but the company decided to take this trim away from the Maxima's production line for 2021. This means that the starting level of the Maxima is somewhat higher than what one might expect. The SV has a full set of driver-assist technologies, heated front seats, Wi-Fi capability, and an advanced infotainment system.
Moving up one trim to the SR comes along with many upgrades. This model has a more athletic vibe than the others do, as it has paddle shifters and a sport-tuned suspension. That suspension has relatively stiff springs and a large front stabilizer bar. As a result, the SR drives more like a sports car. Adding to the overall effect are 19-inch gloss black wheels. Inside the cabin, there are premium Ascot leather seats with Alcantara inserts, along with a panoramic moonroof.
Next up in the lineup is the Platinum. Like the SR, it has 19-inch wheels, but its wheels don't have the black color on them. Several high-tech components are included in the Platinum, such as windshield wipers that can automatically turn on when it rains and a power sunshade that can block some rays from streaming through the back window. Adding sophistication to the cabin is a maple wood-tone trim.
With the 40th Anniversary Edition, there are a lot of elements that make the car stand out. Nissan goes back to having gloss black wheels in this trim. Matching those dark wheels are a black V-motion grille, badging, exhaust finishers, and exterior accents.
This trim has many of the same features that the Premium has. For example, they both have heated and cooled front seats and a memory system that remembers positions for the driver's seat, steering wheel, and side mirrors. The 40th Anniversary Edition has additional features that include heated rear seats, contrast stitching on the steering wheel, and sporty white gauge faces.
Which Trim is Right for Me?
A few people will be attracted to the 40th Anniversary Edition because of its unique style. It's certainly the most sophisticated trim, but its price reflects that. Many potential buyers probably won't be keen on spending that much money, and fortunately they'll have three high-quality options to choose from.
The SV will appeal to people on limited budgets who still want to treat themselves to modern technology and nice interior details. In an SV, people can take advantage of all the horsepower that the standard engine comes with, so a lot of fun can be had.
With the SR, the vibe is more edgy. Also, this car drives a bit differently than the others because of its special suspension. Finally, the Platinum is very upscale and has so many convenient amenities.
What Kind of Technology Does it Have?
In a Nissan Maxima, there is an eight-inch touchscreen. The navigation program is very simple to use, and it provides useful information about traffic and gives people turn-by-turn directions. As the car travels, its passengers can stay connected to the network, thanks to the Nissan's ability to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM are other standard components.
A few trims of the Maxima are enhanced with a Bose premium aid system. It has Centerpoint2 technology and 11 speakers to enhance the quality of the sound produced. Many people will also appreciate that the Maxima can be equipped with multiple USB ports.
How Does It Perform?
All of the Nissan Maxima use the same type of engine. It's a 3.5-liter V6, so it's quite capable. Since it comes with 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque, the Maxima is sure to be able to impress many potential buyers. An Xtronic continuously variable transmission has been paired with the V6, and this transmission has a drive mode selector to give people some more control over how their cars handle themselves. Sport mode would appeal to drivers who love to make things exciting while on the road.
Is It Safe and Reliable?
The Maxima is considered to be a very reliable vehicle. In addition to all of the standard safety components, such as air bags, anti-lock brakes, and three-point seatbelts, the Nissan has many driver-assist technologies. For instance, it has intelligent forward collision warning so that it can warn drivers about imminent frontal collisions. It has lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring as well.
Another standard component is rear automatic braking. Automatic emergency braking and lane intervention are two additional mechanisms that allow the Maxima to be proactive about keeping people safe.
What's the Interior Like?
The Maxima has a comfortable cabin, with up to 45 inches of leg room in the front and 34.2 inches of leg room in the rear. Heated front seats are available, and every model has power-operated front seats. Some trims also have heated steering wheels and leather upholstery. Depending on the trim, there may be a dark chrome or maple wood-style design scheme inside the cabin. Every model has a dual-zone climate system, push-button start, and remote engine start.
What are the Alternatives to this Model?
If people are considering the Nissan Maxima, it's likely that they would have came across some similar sedans in their search. Alternatives to the 2021 Maxima include the Genesis G80, Chrysler 300, and Honda Accord.
