Nissan Rogue Sport Overview:

Drivers in the market for a new compact crossover should strongly consider the 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport. Good fuel economy and valuable safety features make it a solid choice. There’s also a lot of rear cargo space, which will appeal to drivers who routinely haul extra stuff. Let’s take a look at the most common questions car shoppers have about the new Rogue Sport.

2020 vs 2021: What’s New for 2021?

No big revisions were made to the Rogue Sport’s lineup. This means it remains mostly unchanged from 2020.

What Do the Various Trim Levels Offer?

Listed with a starting MSRP of less than $24,000, the Rogue Sport S is the most affordable trim. It features the same powertrain as the rest of the lineup. A four-cylinder engine with 141 horsepower rests under the hood, which is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. While a front-wheel-drive system comes standard, an intelligent AWD system is optional.

On the inside, the Rogue Sport S provides some popular amenities. A big highlight is the standard 7.0-inch Nissan Connect touchscreen. Voice control technology enables you to access your smartphone’s functions while on the road. Other electronics include hands-free text messaging, an Advance Drive-Assist Display, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. Drivers who desire a sharper look can opt for the S trim’s appearance package, which adds upgraded alloy wheels.

A step above the entry-level trim is the Rogue Sport SV. It adds a few more creature comforts, including dual-zone automatic climate control and a power driver’s seat with two-way lumber support. While premium cloth seats give the cabin a more luxurious feel, Nissan’s convenient Divide-N-Hide cargo system enables families to secure important belongings. Meanwhile, an optional Cold Weather package brings heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Atop the lineup is the Rogue Sport SL. It’s the only trim that features genuine leather upholstery and an electronic parking brake. More safety features also come standard. An optional Premium package brings LED headlights, a nine-speaker Bose premium sound system, and a sunroof.

Which Trim Is Right for Me?

The base S trim is a solid choice. It comes loaded with all the features today’s drivers crave the most. However, drivers seeking a bit more luxury should consider the SV trim. There are several premium upgrades on its list of options. Although the range-topping SL trim is nice, adding optional equipment can cause its price to surge past $30,000.

What Kind of Technology Does It Have?

Every new 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport receives a Nissan Connect infotainment system. This interface is simple and quickly links to your smartphone. Another cool feature is the SUV’s Advance Drive-Assist display, which is integrated into the instrument cluster. It can display navigation directions, incoming calls, and other info. Nissan’s Surround View Monitor camera system is highly recommended for drivers who often park in congested areas.

How Does It Perform?

Don’t expect the 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport to deliver a blistering performance. It clocks a 0-60 mph time of around 9.8 seconds, which is a bit on the slow side. However, fuel economy is a strong point. Drivers can trust the SUV to return up to a pleasing 25 mpg town/32 mpg freeway.

A compact design and tight turning circle make the Rogue Sport easy to maneuver in confined places. While this crossover isn’t the sportiest in the segment, it feels stable. Families will also appreciate the Rogue Sport’s satisfying ride. If you plan to traveling in wintry conditions, the optional AWD system will prove to be a great investment.

Is It Safe and Reliable?

While the Rogue Sport’s NHTSA four-star overall safety rating is good, some of its competitors have posted better crash scores. Several great accident-avoidance technologies come with the standard Safety Shield 360 package, including front/rear automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. Available as an option, Nissan's ProPilot Assist system seeks to reduce driver fatigue. Aside from helping with steering and braking, it also automatically adjusts the SUV’s speed when traffic begins to slow.

In terms of reliability, the Rogue Sport has a slightly above-average rating. Keep in mind that Nissan’s powertrain warranty covers you for 60,000 miles.

What’s the Interior Like?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport can carry up to five people. Upper trims have especially comfy front seats. There’s also a class-leading amount of cargo space. On the downside, rear legroom is tight.

What Are the Alternative to This Model?

Among the segment’s top models is the 2021 Hyundai Kona. Drivers enjoy its well-balanced ride and strong optional engine. A longer warranty adds to the Kona’s value. However, there’s not as much storage space in the Kona.

The all-new 2021 Nissan Rogue is another great alternative. It’s larger than the Rogue Sport, which translates to more passenger room. Drivers will also enjoy the Rogue’s stronger acceleration. While the redesigned Rogue has received excellent reviews, the more compact Rogue Sport will be easier to park in tight spots.

There’s much to like about the 2021 Mazda CX-30. It’s sporty and luxurious. Nevertheless, more features come equipped on the Rogue Sport. This includes blind-spot monitoring and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone support.
