2020 vs 2021: What's the Difference?
For the 2021 model year, Toyota has installed Android Auto on every Corolla trim. With its hatchback, the company has added a few more airbags to the rear section to give passengers more protection. In the hatchback, cargo capacity has been slightly expanded by taking way the spare tire and replacing it with a tire-repair kit.
What Do the Various Trim Levels Offer?
The L is the first available trim. Its seven-inch touchscreen and comprehensive safety package should help it attract plenty of attention. It even has SiriusXM, and its other features include a backup camera and LED headlights.
Offered for just a few hundred dollars more than the L, the LE has a slightly larger touchscreen. People will appreciate that it has remote keyless entry, heated side mirrors, and an automatic climate system.
The LE is available as a hybrid trim. While the standard powertrain is fairly efficient, the hybrid is obviously even better in this regard. Consider that the LE can achieve up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway and the Hybrid LE can earn 53 miles per gallon. Plus, it has a seven-inch information display and a smart key system.
A sportier Corolla is the SE. It has paddle shifters and a Sport driving mode in which the engine feels more responsive. The SE is available with either an automatic or manual transmission. 18-inch wheels and a gray metallic front grille add to the athletic nature of this car. If someone likes the SE but wants something a little different, there's the SE Nightshade Edition. It has blacked out exterior components and special badging.
The SE Apex Edition offers more advanced features. For instance, it has a higher quality exhaust and suspension system that performance-minded drivers are sure to notice. Its 18-inch black wheels match its dark front grille and blacked out badging. Inside the cabin, there is bronze contrast stitching as another visual element.
As a more premium model, the XLE has a power moonroof and SofTex seats. Up front, the seats are heated, and the steering wheel is wrapped in leather. At this level, blind spot monitoring becomes standard. With similar interior features to the XLE, the XSE is also impressive. At the same time, it has some of the more aggressive exterior details that the sportier trims have.
The XSE Apex Edition is the nicest trim available. It has the best of both worlds. Its interior is packed with high-end amenities, and it has the advanced suspension and athletic additions that the SE and XSE have.
Which Trim is Right for Me?
Any of the SE or XSE models would be a good choice if a customer wants his/her car to feel more like a sports car and less like a typical sedan. There's a range of SE and XSE options, so people can decide the level of sophistication they'd like to have.
On the other hand, the XLE, LE, and L are all solid options. They have everything that a modern car might need, like an advanced infotainment system and a full suite of driver-assist technologies. The XLE offers excellent value; it treats people to some extra benefits while still being very affordable.
What Kind of Technology Does it Have?
Either a seven-inch or eight-inch touchscreen can be found in the Toyota Corolla. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Toyota has also installed Amazon Alexa, multiple USB ports, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio into every one of the Corolla sedans. Higher trims may be upgraded with navigation and nine JBL speakers.
How Does It Perform?
Three options are available in terms of the powertrain. The standard engine is a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder model. It can output 139 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque. While this may be modest, it's enough power for the Corolla to feel somewhat lively.
A 1.8-liter engine is also what's found in the Hybrid LE, but the difference is that it's used in conjunction with an electric motor. The two components work together to yield 121 horsepower.
Customers interested in having some more fun when they drive should think about getting Corollas with 2.0-liter engines. This type of engine increases horsepower to 169 and bumps torque up to 151 pound-feet.
A six-speed manual transmission is available on select models. Otherwise, the Corolla uses a continuously variable transmission.
Is It Safe and Reliable?
The 2021 Corolla is a budget-friendly car that comes with a great safety package. Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is the name of the package, and it comes with a handful of driver-assist technologies. Pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control are all integrated into the Corolla. Plus, it has automatic emergency braking to hopefully prevent frontal collisions as well as steering assist to gently guide the car back into the center of a lane.
Higher trims may be able to watch out for vehicles in their blind spots and vehicles crossing behind them when they're backing up. In the case of an accident, the crumple zones can absorb energy, and everyone can hopefully stay in position thanks to the three-point seatbelts.
What's the Interior Like?
As a compact car, the Corolla has room for five. Second-row leg room is about 35 inches, and the cabin can feel more spacious when it has a moonroof. Fabric upholstery is standard. On higher trims, it can be replaced with premium fabric, sport fabric, or Softex. The front seats can come with heating elements, and the steering wheel can be wrapped in leather. Ambient lighting, wireless charging, and a rear center armrest are found in a few of the Corolla trims.
What are the Alternatives to this Model?
The Honda Civic, Honda Insight, Mazda3, Volkswagen Golf, and Hyundai Ioniq are some models that are similar to the Toyota Corolla.
