2022 Fiat 500X Trim Levels, Configurations & Comparisons: Pop vs Trekking vs Sport and Yacht Club

The 2022 Fiat 500X is a compact crossover SUV with a unique style. Like all Fiats, it's distinctly Italian in its appearance. That goes for both the exterior and the interior. Some may even describe this car's style as retro, though there's plenty of modern amenities and technology here. The 500X offers a peppy turbocharged engine and standard all-wheel drive for excellent traction and handling.

Being a smaller crossover SUV, the 500X has a profile that's comparable to a sports coupe. It's sporty in both looks and performance too. For 2022, Fiat is offering a unique cloth sunroof for the 500X. Fiat calls this the Al-Fresco top. The 500X is available in four different trim levels for the current model year.

Fiat calls the trim levels the Pop, Trekking, Sport and Yacht Club. All four models come equipped with the same engine. Most of the differences between the trims lie in the convenience and safety features. Here is a closer look at each trim level. All four will be compared to show their similarities and major differences.

 

Compare the Pop vs Trekking Trim Levels. What Is the Difference?

Every model of the 2022 Fiat 500X is equipped with a 1.3-liter, Direct-Injection, Turbo Engine with 4 cylinders, 16 valves and ESS. ESS is engine stop/start technology that makes the powertrain more efficient. This engine produces 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. It can go from 0 to 60 mph (miles-per-hour) in 8.9 seconds. Every trim level of the 500X is also equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Fiat's 500X has a 12.7-gallon fuel tank. It should get about 24 mpg (mile-per-gallon) in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Every trim gets electric power steering, an engine-block heater and a tilting and telescoping steering column. An electric parking brake is also standard. Every model has all-wheel drive and a Touring suspension system.

One great standard feature for the 500X is its Dynamic Control Selector. This technology allows the driver to select from multiple modes for various driving conditions. It helps the vehicle to have optimal traction, efficiency and performance in different situations. The Pop trim level has available Dual Bright Exhaust Tips. These are not available for the Trekking which has its own unique exhaust tips.

The Fiat 500X is 167.2-inches long, 70.7-inches wide and 63.7-inches high. The 500X has seating for five and a total of 92 cubic-feet of passenger space. There's 39.1-inches of headroom and 41.4-inches of legroom up front. The rear-seat space isn't too far off from those numbers with 37.8-inches of headroom and 34.8-inches of legroom. Fiat engineers managed to put a lot of comfortable space inside of this smaller vehicle.

The 500X has 14.1 cubic-feet of storage space. This can be expanded to 39.8 cubic-feet of cargo space by folding down the rear seats. On the outside, the Pop and Trekking trims get power-adjustable mirrors with a heating element and integrated turn signals. These exterior mirrors are painted to match the vehicle's body color. Each trim has its own unique front-fascia design.

The Pop and Trekking models get bi-function halogen headlights and LED taillights. The Trekking models also have automatic headlights as well as fog and cornering lamps. Automatic high beams and overhead, ambient surround lighting is available for the Trekking but not the Pop models. Both trims have variable, intermittent windshield wipers. Only the Trekking models get rain-sensitive wipers that kick on automatically at the first sign of precipitation.

Both of these trims come with 17-inch aluminum wheels. These are painted silver and paired with a set of all-season tires. Fiat throws in a spare tire for good measure. All trim levels have 4-wheel, anti-lock brakes. Both have Bright Chrome exterior trim, while the Trekking also gets Satin-Silver door handles and deep-tint sunscreen glass.

Every trim level gets a rear, body-colored spoiler. Fiat's new Al Fresco top is offered as an option for both the Pop and Trekking trims. These are available in multiple colors such as red, black and gray. Mopar® wheel locks are also available for both trims as optional equipment.

On the inside of the Fiat 500X, both of these trims get 6-way, power-adjustable seats up front. The rear has a 60/40 folding bench seat. The Pop has monogrammed, cloth bucket seats in front. The monogram repeats the Fiat name all over the upholstery. The Trekking gets more subdued flash cloth bucket seats.

Low-back seats are available for the Trekking. Leather-trimmed upholstery is also available for this trim level. There are three head restraints for the rear seats. Power adjustments and heating can also be added to the front seats of the Trekking models as options.

Both of these trim levels share the same stock Uconnect® 4 infotainment system. The system comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display. There are two USB ports for charging or data. The system also offers Integrated Voice Command and Bluetooth technologies. This makes it easy to control functions of the system and to stream one's favorite music.

Speaking of music, this infotainment system has an AM/FM stereo and six speakers. A Beats Premium Audio System is available for both trims. Trekking buyers can also have an integrated navigation system added on. The setup is compatible with SiriusXM® Radio, and Fiat even offers a free six-month trial. The Uconnect 4 system is also compatible with Apple's CarPlay and Google's Android Auto.

When buying either model of the 500X, a dual-pane sunroof can be added on. There's a front, center console and armrest in every model. The 500X also gets four cargo tie-down hooks for securing whatever one needs to cart around. These trim levels have basic air conditioning and a heater booster. Power doors, power locks and a rear-window defroster are all standard features.

The Pop and Trekking each have a 3.5-inch cluster display. The Pop has black and white graphics while the Trekking gets a full-color display. When it comes to driver-assist tech and safety features, both trims have Electronic Roll Mitigation and Electronic Stability Control. Remote Start, Hill-Start Assist and LED daytime-running lamps are all stock features.

Pop and Trekking models also come with a ParkView Rear Back-up Camera for a better view of what's behind the 500X. There's a Tire-Pressure Monitor and a standard security alarm. There are multi-stage, advanced airbags up front. The driver and front passenger also have side-impact airbags and supplemental knee airbags. Side curtain airbags provide another level of protection both up front and in the rear.

Every version of the 2022 Fiat 500X comes with LATCH points to tether down child safety seats. The Pop and Trekking models offer Remote Proximity Keyless Entry. Trekking models have a few more optional driver-assist features. Some of these include Lane-Departure Warning Plus, Forward-Collision Warning Plus and Blind-Spot Detection.

Compare the Trekking vs Sport Trims. What Is the Difference?

The next trim level above the Trekking is called the Sport. It's not really anymore sporty than the previous two trim levels, at least not when it comes to performance. It does, however, have a few sporty-appearance type features, hence the trim name. The bumpers and front fascia are more sporty and unique to this trim level. This trim also gets a set of 18-inch aluminum wheels and some all-season performance tires.

On the inside, this trim level has unique, Sport cloth seats. These are still manually adjustable, but can be upgraded to power-adjustable seats with a heating feature, just like the Trekking models. The Sport also features a race-car style steering wheel with a flat bottom. Paddle shifters, much like the ones found in race cars, are also added to the steering wheel.

There's not too much to say about the Sport trim level. It has the same convenience and safety features as the Trekking. It also has the same infotainment system and driver-assist technology. Of course, all of the 500X models share the same engine, transmission, drivetrain, suspension and brakes. They're all mechanically identical.

The Sport trim has access to a couple of optional packages. There's an All-Weather Package and an All-Weather Plus Package, both by Mopar. The first package features Mopar Slush Floor Mats. The latter adds a cargo-area Slush Mat, front and rear splash guards and wheel locks.

Compare the Sport vs Yacht Club. What Is the Difference?

At the top of the pack is the Yacht Club trim level. This model of the 2022 Fiat 500X has everything that the Trekking models offer, some of what the Sport models offer, plus some additional features and cosmetic flourishes of its own. On the outside, the exterior mirrors are no longer simple body-colored models. They now come in a Satin-Chrome finish with Dark-Gray mirror caps.

The Yacht Club has a set of 18-inch Sport wheels with painted blue accents. These are paired with a set of all-season performance tires. The Al Fresco top is automatically added to this trim level. The Yacht Club goes back to the Chrome trim found on the Trekking models.

On the inside, this top-tier trim level offers a unique, Ivory color scheme. It also has Ivory leather seat upholstery. The Yacht Club unfortunately still has the manually adjustable seats, but once again these can be swapped out for power seats for a small price increase. This trim surprisingly just comes with the standard infotainment system and audio setup.

The Yacht Club has available Dual-Zone Auto Temperature Control for keeping everyone nice and comfortable. There's an available Automatic-Dimming Rear-View Mirror here too. It gets the Sport steering wheel from the Sport trim level along with the paddle shifters. Wood-grain, instrument-panel trim is now available for the first time. Once again, all of the safety features, driver-assist tech and the security alarm are the same as the previous trim.

 

Final Thoughts

The 2022 Fiat 500X is a unique and stylish little car. It offers plenty of horsepower for its size and weight along with some excellent steering dynamics. The standard all-wheel drive adds further to the car's excellent handling. It's a fun car to drive, especially around an urban landscape. With its unique Italian styling, it's sure to turn some heads wherever it goes.

There aren't any major differences between the four trim levels of the Fiat 500X. Most of the differences are actually cosmetic too. Much of the convenience features and technology can be added on to any trim level through various packages. Choosing a trim is almost entirely about style choices here. Fortunately, there's never a steep increase in price when moving up a trim level.

For most buyers, the Trekking trim level will be the way to go. It has some useful upgrades over the base model. It also has a few nice options that are unavailable for the Pop trim. Some notable, available upgrades include the power-adjustable heated seats and the navigation system. The Sport and Yacht Club may be interesting choices if one really loves the unique looks of those models, but for everyone else, the Trekking will be the best value.
