The luxury sedan class perfectly blends high-end interior design with comfort and practicality. From powerful engines to exquisitely crafted seats, luxury sedans generally have the best of everything that sedans can offer. These vehicles are the reward for a long day at work, letting you and your family drive without a worry in the world.
The Infiniti Q50 is a relative newcomer in the luxury sedan class, but it certainly holds its own against other cars by brands that made this type of vehicle popular. Its range of engine choices give the Q50 immense power on the road, and its interior technology is top-notch. In 2019, Infiniti made the line more manageable, reducing the number of available engines to three from four. This year you also do not need to pay extra to get two important safety technology systems - a front collision warning system and an automatic emergency braking system. These now come standard across all models.
The 2019 Infiniti Q50 comes in four unique trim levels, starting with the base 2.0t Pure and ending with the Red Sport 400. Infiniti has made it simple to understand how powerful each trim level is, as the names include the engine type associated with that trim. This guide will help you understand exactly what the differences are among the four Q50 trim levels. By understanding these differences, you’ll be able to decide exactly which trim level is right for your driving style.
Compare the 2019 Infiniti Q50 2.0t Pure vs 3.0t Luxe - What is the difference?
The base model of the luxurious 2019 Infiniti Q50 is the Q50 2.0t Pure. With no upgrades, the 2.0t Pure comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission that’s paired with a turbocharged 2-liter engine. This engine can provide 258 lb-ft of torque and over 200 horsepower to ensure the car accelerates with no effort. The Pure comes with rear-wheel drive as standard, though you can get all-wheel drive if you prefer that driving style or if you believe it’s necessary for certain road conditions.
On the exterior of the 2.0t Pure, you’ll find some fantastic standard features. Both the headlights and foglights are LEDs, meaning that you’ll be able to see the road ahead in nearly any conditions with ease. The wipers are automatic, the alloy wheels measure in at 17 inches, and the exterior is sleek with some slender lines accentuating the body while maintaining the Q50’s aerodynamic feel.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find plenty of useful technology. To start, the car has front seats that can be adjusted in 8 different ways. The seating is comfortable, as simulated leather is used on top of all of the seats. There’s a dual touchscreen to interact with Infiniti’s InTouch infotainment system. The touchscreens measure in at 8 inches and 7 inches for the upper and lower screens, respectively. The interface is intuitive and useful, allowing you to get navigation information or stream from radio or phones with ease. Safety technology is also included in the base 2.0t Pure, with a front collision warning system and an automatic braking system already in place to keep you safe on the road.
Though the 2.0t Pure offers plenty of features that are impressive in a base model of any car, the 2019 Infiniti Q50 3.0t Luxe offers those same features with an even more powerful engine. When you move up to the 3.0t Luxe from the 2.0t Pure, you’ll find an extremely powerful 3 liter V6 engine under the hood. This V6 offers 300 horsepower (significantly more than the 2.0t’s 208 horsepower) with 295 lb-ft of torque. You’ll also find a sunroof and 18-inch wheels in this trim. The 3.0t Luxe adds some more luxury feel to the interior of the car, with wood accents throughout and added voice command systems to the InTouch infotainment system.
If you’re on a budget, then the base model of the Infiniti Q50 is the smartest choice. It offers plenty of luxury features and a powerful engine to boot, giving you both comfort and practicality on the road. However, if you want that extra edge on the road, then moving up to the 3.0t Luxe is a good choice. The engine is noticeably more powerful, increasing your acceleration, handling, and overall speed significantly.
Compare the 2019 Q50 3.0t Luxe vs 3.0t Sport Trims. What is the difference?
While the 3.0t Luxe upgrades the Q50’s engine and a few other features, the 3.0t Sport really kicks it up a notch. On top of the base features offered in the 2.0t Pure, the Sport makes the car feel more nimble on the road. It does this by increasing the wheels to a massive 19 inches and increasing grip with specialty performance tires. The suspension can be adjusted for the road type and terrain, allowing you to have variable response depending on where you are. The brakes are much larger, allowing you to brake more precisely, and the transmission shifts with a paddle system to ensure that you aren’t losing efficiency between gears.
Inside the vehicle, you’ll find some spots where the cabin has been upgraded. The front seats are now heated and add an extra adjustment feature for maximum comfort - the seats can be adjusted to fit your thighs manually. They’re also sport-focused (i.e., using a different seat shape than the more comfort-oriented 2.0t Pure’s seats or the 3.0t Luxe’s seats), as are the interior accents made from aluminum. That’s not all, though - all of the seats are covered with leather, and the sound system has been upgraded to a beautiful 16-speaker Bose system. To help you with navigation, a special Infiniti-specific navigation system has been added to the InTouch infotainment system. To assist you with parking both a 360-degree panoramic camera and rear parking sensors have also been added.
It is somewhat odd that the 2019 Infiniti Q50 3.0t Sport seems to have more luxury features than the 3.0t Luxe. While you can add many of these luxury features to the 3.0t Luxe, the increase in price makes it far more sensible to just go for the 3.0t Sport instead. However, if you only want the V6 engine and a sunroof and do not care for the redesigned sport interior, then you may enjoy the 3.0t Luxe more. If you like customization and want to pick and choose which features go into your Q50’s body, then you may also prefer the 3.0t Luxe.
Compare the Q50 3.0t Sport vs Red Sport 400 - What is the difference?
The most powerful trim of all in Q50’s trim levels is the Red Sport 400. If you thought the 300 horsepower V6 in the 3.0t Luxe and 3.0t Sport was already pushing the limit, then the Red Sport’s 400 horsepower, 350 lb-ft torque V6 will seem absolutely unfathomable. This engine brings the car up to speed immaculately, and paired with the 7-speed automatic transmission does its job quite well. On top of the engine, you get interior upgrades like chrome and red theming and quilted leather throughout. The wheels are slightly larger than the 19-inch ones on the 3.0t Sport, though they still qualify as 19-inch wheels. You’ll get some of the 3.0t Sport’s features, including the heated front seats and the parking assistance systems, but some of them are sidelined to one of the many upgradable packages available for the Red Sport.
Speaking of upgradeable packages, you may want to upgrade either one of these trims with the ProActive package, which includes many comfort features that you may need on longer drives. This package upgrades safety technology with a lane assistance system that includes lane keeping and lane departure warnings. It also includes adaptive cruise control, which is a blessing on longer highway drives.
In essence, the only reason to spring for the 2019 Q50 Red Sport 400 is its supercharged engine. If you want unparalleled power in your luxury sedan, then this is the best trim level for you. However, if you prefer a plethora of features with a slightly less powerful engine, then you will likely prefer the 3.0t Sport or the 3.0t Luxe.

Which One Should You Choose?
Choosing the best 2019 Infiniti Q50 trim is quite difficult, and primarily relies on your driving preferences. However, the mid-tier trim levels hold the best cost to value ratio. Both the Q50 3.0t Luxe and the 3.0t Sport are by far the most feature-packed and can be further enhanced with optional upgrades or full package upgrades. The 3.0t Sport comes with a sporty, streamlined cabin interior and a well-designed exterior, making the car sleek and aerodynamic on the road. It also has an impressive V6 engine, easily enough to make you quite speedy on the road.
If you’re attached to the Q50 but don’t need the V6 engine, then you will likely enjoy the 2.0t Pure. It’s not lacking in features and provides a reliable and comfortable ride no matter the terrain. Likewise, if you absolutely need a high-powered engine, then the Red Sport 400 is absolutely the best choice for you.
