Jaguar got into the luxury SUV game in recent years. One of its smallest offerings is the F-Pace, which is technically a compact sport utility vehicle. In reality, the F-Pace is on the larger end of the compact spectrum. For many consumers, the size is an ideal blend of roominess and maneuverability.

When it first hit the market, the F-Pace had quite a few criticisms. Jaguar learned quickly and ironed out most of the wrinkles. New for 2020 is standard smartphone integration in the form of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This year also has two special editions, known as the Checkered Flag and the 300 Sport. For what it is worth, the diesel engine has been discontinued.

Consumers may be overwhelmed by all of the choices they have when it comes to the F-Pace. There are seven different models to choose from, not counting the two special editions. In this guide, differences between each model are presented to simplify the decision-making process.

Compare the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace Base vs Premium Trim Levels.  What is the difference?

The base model for the F-Pace is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that produces 247-horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All trim levels come standard with all-wheel-drive.

This trim level rides on 18" alloy wheels. It comes standard with a power liftgate and a sliding panoramic sunroof. Inside, drivers get 10-way power-adjustable front seats. The rear seat features a 40/20/40 split-fold. Other sophisticated interior features include suede-cloth headlinings and illuminated treadplates with specialized Jaguar script.

Technology features are plentiful inside the F-Pace. This entry-level model comes with a 10" touchscreen for the infotainment system. HD radio is standard and can be played on the premium Meridian sound system that is also included. This vehicle comes with InControl Remote and Protect. Different apps can be added to allow drivers to do things such as control certain vehicle features remotely or locate it in the event it is stolen.

Available for the entry-level model, as well as every trim that comes after it, is the activity key. This is a key that can be worn on the wrist, eliminating the need to carry keys when engaging in activities such as jogging and swimming. The band for this key is waterproof and strong enough to take a beating without breaking. Touching the tailgate with the key will lock or unlock the car. While wearing the activity key, the key fob can be left inside the cabin, temporarily deactivated.

There are a decent number of standard advanced safety features found in the base model of the F-Pace. Consumers get emergency braking, a rearview camera, lane keep assist, a driver condition monitor, and front and rear park assist. Overall, this is a very impressive entry-level model.

Moving up to the Premium trim level does not actually add too much to the F-Pace. Thankfully, it also does not add too much to the price tag. There is the option of upgrading the engine, however. Although essentially the same, this higher-output version will give drivers 296-horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

On the outside, this trim sits on 19" alloy wheels. Both the driver side exterior mirror and seat gain a memory feature. Those exterior mirrors are also power-folding and auto-dimming. Inside the cabin, drivers and front passengers will enjoy the added lumbar support for their seats. There is also stylish ambient lighting. The final addition is HomeLink, a way to connect the F-Pace to compatible garage door openers, security systems, and gates.

The Premium does not add anything that most consumers cannot live without. On the other hand, the small price bump may be justifiable for the extra creature comforts.

Compare the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace Premium vs Prestige Trims.  What is the difference?

There are more notable changes when consumers decide to go to the Prestige from the Premium. It also comes standard with the 247-horsepower version of the four-cylinder engine but can be upgraded to the higher-output model. On the outside, the most noteworthy change is the xenon headlights including LED signature daytime running lights.

Moving inside, consumers now find heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The steering column is electronically adjustable. The entire instrument panel is wrapped in a type of synthetic leather. More safety features are also found inside the Prestige trim level. It adds traffic sign recognition as well as navigation. These two features allow for an adaptive speed limiter. Keyless entry is also added when going with the Prestige.

The InControl system adds the ability to have apps. These interactive apps give drivers access to audiobooks, music, and more. More entertainment options are opened up by the fact that a 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot is added as standard equipment here. The additional convenience features offered by the Prestige are sure to attract consumers.

Compare the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace Prestige vs R-Sport. What is the difference?

There are two sportier versions of the F-Pace available to consumers in 2020. The first is the R-Sport. It has identical engine options to the previous two trims. It does get upgraded to 20" alloy wheels. The entire look of the F-Pace is changed here by the "R-Sport body kit." This adds more athletic front and rear bumpers as well as body-colored door cladding.

Also adding to the style of the R-Sport are the satin chrome touches on the side vents and front grille. More practical exterior changes include front fog lights, automatic high beam assist, and adaptive LED headlights. The headlights maintain the signature daytime running light feature.

Inside, there are just a few tweaks. The biggest is the steering wheel, which has special branding and includes paddle shifters. The driver and front passenger get upgraded to 18-way adjustable sport seats. As a bonus, the driver seat gains a memory feature. Rounding out the interior touches is satellite radio.

Both special editions of the F-Pace in 2020 are based on the R-Sport trim. The Checked Flag option has the lower output version of the four-cylinder engine. Inside, there is a second driver's display gauge. Outside, there are unique styling touches. The 300 Sport is very similar but comes with the high output engine, and therefore a higher price tag.

The R-Sport certainly adds some flair, but may not have the extra performance necessary to attract consumers.

Compare the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace R-Sport vs S Trims. What is the difference?

People in the market for a sporty F-Pace that not only talks the talk but also walks the walk will want the S trim. It is powered by a supercharged 3.0L V6 engine that generates 380-horsepower. The top speed goes up to 155 MPH, rather than the 135 MPH found on previous models.

This version has a unique exterior styling as well, thanks the the "S body kit." This gives the bumpers a shape that not only looks more athletic but also increases the aerodynamics of the vehicle. Eye-catching red brake calipers are also included on this trim.

Another way the S stands apart from the R-Sport is with the inclusion of adaptive dynamics with a configurable dynamic mode. The adaptive dynamics component of this is a grouping of sensors as well as continuously variable suspension dampers. Road conditions and driving style are constantly monitored and the system can adapt up to 500 times per second. The goal here is to give drivers superior traction and a smooth ride.

The configurable dynamic mode will appeal to those who love to drive. While adaptive dynamics work without driver input, configurable dynamic mode allows for a high level of personalization. Drivers can adjust throttle response, steering weight, gear shift speed, and more.

Further increasing the capability of the S trim is the adaptive surface response feature. It works seamlessly with the all-wheel-drive system to help the F-Pace adapt instantly to changing road conditions. This system can help when drivers are facing ice, mud, sand, and more.

The S trim level has the power to back up its sporty exterior and will likely appeal to a large number of consumers.

Compare the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace S vs Portfolio. What is the difference?

Drivers who are looking for luxury above all else will be interested in the Portfolio trim level. This model goes back to the four-cylinder engine but is only available in the higher output 296-horsepower version. With this trim, drivers get silver roof rails. They also get a convenient powered gesture tailgate.

There are plenty of interior upgrades to be found inside of the Portfolio. The front seats are made from Windsor leather and have 20-way power adjustment. These seats are both heated and cooled. In the back, the rear seats gain an electronic reclining feature. The back seats are heated. Rear passengers gain two 12-volt power outlets in the backseat. This trim also gets an upgraded sound system. It is worth noting that this trim loses the sportier steering wheel found inside the R-Sport and S trims.

This trim also features ambient lighting and gains the ability to customize it. Four-zone automatic climate control will ensure that every passenger can be comfortable. Finishing up the convenience features is a cooled glovebox that is lockable.

Drivers will find a useful 12.3" interactive driver display inside the 2020 F-Pace Prestige. This screen can display information from the navigation system, phone, and more. Also added to the Prestige is a head's up display that is meant to reduce distractions to the driver by placing information in their line of sight, therefore keeping their eyes on the road.

This is certainly one of the pricier options when it comes to the F-Pace but drivers would struggle to find a compact SUV with more features.

Compare the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace Portfolio vs SVR Trim Levels.  What is the difference?

Those who like a walk on the wild side will be drawn to the SVR trim level. This beast of a vehicle is powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces a jaw-dropping 550-horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque. Upgrades to both the brakes and all-wheel-drive system are made so that the F-Pace can handle all of this extra power. Drivers now get electronic active differential with torque vectoring as well as switchable active exhuast.

The SVR is the only trim to come standard with 21" wheels. It has its own body kit, which once again tweaks the bumpers. There are also quad tailpipes. Inside, this trim is very similar to the Prestige. It maintains luxury touches such as the heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. For this trim level, the seating is upgraded to quilted leather and has SVR embossed into the headrest.

Not only is the SVR insanely powerful, but it also maintains all of the luxury from the models that came before it. Drivers who do not mind shelling out the money will be sure to fall in love with this trim.

Which Trim to Choose?

The options here borderline on overwhelming. Even the entry-level trim has a long list of desirable features and a good amount of power. The Premium trim is underwhelming, but a strong case can be made for the Prestige with its upgrades to both safety and luxury.

As for the R-Sport, its sporty appearance feels almost deceptive considering it is no more powerful than the models that came before it. The S trim, on the other hand, is a beautiful blend of performance and luxury. As a result, it is the best choice for most consumers. The Portfolio and SVR will undoubtedly have their fans, but consumers will potentially find them to be a bit much.

Ultimately, the S trim level is a good call thanks to its power, practicality, safety, and tech features.
