The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica continues the path it charted only a few years ago. Flexible and fuel efficient, it offers a bigger cabin for a growing family. Drivers will like the carlike feel, and parents will like the many extras.

There are many ways to drive the Pacifica. The gas-powered Pacifica comes in Touring, Touring L, Touring Plus and Limited editions. The hybrid comes in a Touring L, Touring Plus and Limited editions. This year only there’s a 35th anniversary model for each trim level.

Shoppers should note that the former lineup has been altered, dropping the lowest trim edition. This slot has been reassigned to the Pacifica spin-off known as the Chrysler Voyager.

The minivan has won awards from Consumer Guide, Consumers Digest, and other reviewers. More importantly, it has a five-star federal safety rating. That’s backed up by a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

When it was first introduced, it could claim some 40 original minivan features. This included the tri-pane moonroof, which is available on the hybrids and on the Limited. The sliding doors that can be operated hands-free are another first.

A premium ride, you only have to step up to the Touring L to get leather seats. Each level brings more luxuries, and there are special packages that add color and style. Color choices include alloy, black, deep mocha, rodeo red, and toffee. There are accents in wine or gray. Exterior colors include three metallics, four pearls, and three clear coats. Hues include jazz blue, velvet red, and granite crystal.

Pacificas are powered by a V6 engine. It produces 287 horsepower, which is ample for this size vehicle. A nine-speed automatic transmission helps you control 262 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is 19 miles per gallon in the city. On the highway, that is boosted to 28 miles per gallon.

The Touring L is also offered in an electric hybrid. It utilizes an innovative dual-motor eFlite transmission. The Pentastar V-6 gas engine makes sure that the owner always has the power needed, even when the charge runs out. A one-way clutch sends torque to the wheels.

The model can go up to 32 miles on a single charge. Regenerative braking adds to the length of the single charge. With the gas engine, it has a 488-mile driving range. It is rated for 80-plus miles per gallon equivalent. All hybrids wear a unique honeycomb grille.

With seating for seven, passenger volume is a whopping 165 cubic feet. Teens on the second row won’t complain about space with 39 inches of legroom and 40 inches of headroom. Keeping kids cool, there are second row retractable shades. Even the third row has 36.5 inches of legroom, which is two inches more than what you’ll find in the backseat in some small cars.

The driver’s 8-way power passenger chair is standard. The Touring L edition adds memory features and a full-length console. Second-row Stow n Go bucket seats are standard. This provides in-floor storage bins when the seats are in use. The third-row is a Stow ‘n go bench.

Power sliding side doors help everyone in and out of the minivan. The temperature controls include three-zone automatic settings. The Touring L adds Stow n Place bright side rails to handle more cargo.

A 7-inch touch screen includes Bluetooth phone and voice text reply. Extending what the system can do, Chrysler provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The hold measures 32.3 cubic feet, which is competitive for any three-row vehicle. You can fold the seats to get 140.5 cubic feet of cargo space. Even though you may not want to tow, it’s nice to know you can pull up to 3,600 pounds.

The driver will find many needs met in this edition. Heated side mirrors improve visibility. A blind spot monitor watches the sides. Rear cross traffic alert is a good partner for the rearview camera, especially with the ParkSense autobrake system.

The Touring L adds third-row retractable shades. It has mounted audio controls on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. Front seats are power-heated. Driver seat memory allows drivers to move the seat right where it is needed. Premium cloth seats are exchanged for McKinley perforated leather trim.

You can choose the advanced SafetyTec group and get a long list of driver assistance features. Shoppers will be pleased that both the regular and Hybrid Touring L are offered in a 35th Anniversary edition. There are eight seats instead of seven in the regular Touring L 35th Anniversary edition.

The L Plus has an upgraded gasoline engine. This adds stop-start capability. Pacificas can save fuel at redlights by cutting the principal engine and relying on an auxiliary battery. This increases city fuel economy to 19 miles per gallon. You can also choose the hybrid edition.

Both offer seven seats with a driver’s power chair. The L Plus adds a power chair for the front seat passenger. This also upgrades it to a Stow ‘n Assist capability. Drivers get a heated steering wheel, and both front seats have power-heat capability. The console is upgraded with illuminated cup holders.

Instead of six speakers, passengers are surrounded by 13 speakers. The L Plus also updates the UConnect system to an 8.4-inch display. This system has HD radio and navigation. The Sirius XM Guardian helps keep the minivan safer. SiriusXM Traffic and Sirius XM Travel Link help the driver avoid slow downs and other snafus.

The L Plus 35th Anniversary Edition is dressed like the L 35th Anniversary edition. This includes the Nappa and McKinley leather, the instrument panel bezels, and special door trim. There are eight seats, allowing you to handle carpool duties more easily. The addition of the dual panoramic sunroof is where the L Plus 35th Anniversary edition really stands out.

The Limited comes in either the upgraded gasoline engine or the hybrid engine. It has upgraded leather seats compared to the L Plus. It adds heated and ventilated front seats. An integrated navigation system helps you find the best route.

When the Limited is upgraded to the 35th Anniversary Edition, it gets the McKinley leather, eight seats, and other standards. The wheels can be 18-inch aluminum or 20-inch polished aluminum with painted pockets. The Hybrid Limited 35th Anniversary Edition also comes with this additional content.

The S appearance package can be added to the Touring, Touring L, Touring L Plus, or Limited. It adds gloss black accents to the exterior. Inside there are light gray accents on black sesats. Anodized ice cave bezels dress up the instrument panel.

Only available on the Limited, the Red S Appearance package adds style and technology. It has Rodeo red Nappa seating. Light gray stitching and piping add an accent. Which Trim to Choose?

Big families will almost certainly want a 35th anniversary model. This gives them that extra seat advantage. It also means that they will get a rear entertainment center. This is sure to keep kids happier on long trips.

Technophiles will want the L Plus with the SafetyTec package. This covers all of the bases in terms of the latest driver assistance aids. It also brings the whole UConnect package. The UConnect streaming theater is especially exciting because you can utilize your home cable service.

Luxury lovers will have to choose the Limited with the Red S Appearance package. This provides the most premium look in the line up, whether you look at the exterior or interior. Plus the Harmon Kardon system surrounds you with sound.

This is the only minivan and one of the few three-rows with hybrid tech. For big families, this makes the hybrid a likely choice. It would be a big asset to the family budget. It also comes with a $7,500 tax credit, which can reduce costs if the family is eligible.

 This model has a ten-year/150,000-mile warranty. It can even be transferred if you sell the minivan before the warranty has expired. If you are worried about charging, you can get a level 2 charger that can boost the charge within two hours.
