In recent years, it seems like more buyers have been looking for three-row vehicles. With the Q7, Audi has a strong contender in the field. The 2021 Audi Q7 will appeal to people with healthy budgets, refined tastes, and a need for spacious vehicles. In many ways, the Q7 is quite practical, as it has the cargo room that many consumers are interested in having. In other ways, the term "practical" doesn't really fit the Q7 since it's so sophisticated, sleek, and luxurious. However people want to label the Q7 is fine because it's clear that this SUV is ready for anything and will look good while conquering challenges.

What's New for 2021?

The changes for 2021 are relatively minor. The Audi has gained blind spot monitoring as a standard feature across all trims. The Premium Plus trim, which is a mid-level option, now comes with an optional package that includes numerous upgrades that make the cabin more comfortable and convenient. At the higher end of the spectrum, the Prestige models get even more enhancements with leather on their armrests and heating elements in their back seats.

Top 10 Reasons to Buy a 2021 Audi Q7 – The Pros

1. Two Engine Options

It's always nice when a model comes with more than one available engine. With the Q7, Audi offers up a two-liter as well as a three-liter engine. The smaller version has four cylinders and the larger one has six. This difference in size results in a pretty significant upgrade, moving the SUV up from having 248 horsepower to being able to generate 335 horsepower. Torque starts out at 273 pound-feet and gets increased to almost 370 pound-feet in the more powerful trims.

There's no wrong answer when it comes to what engine would be best. One is great, and the other is better.

2. Towing Cargo? Not a Problem

The 45 TFSI models, which run on two-liter turbocharged engines, can tow up to 4,400 pounds. This is perfect for weekend warriors who plan on occasionally towing jet skis, motorbikes, or similar gear. The 55 TFSI models that are powered by twin-scroll turbocharged V6 engines can tow up to 7,700 pounds. This opens things up in terms of hauling work equipment or boats.

3. Advanced Seating

With leather surfaces, the Audi's seats feel soft and supportive. Heating elements in the first- and second-row seats can make things much more cozy in the colder months, and in the summer, available ventilation can go a long way in keeping people cool and comfortable. As one would imagine, the front seats are power-adjustable, and the lumbar support can be power-adjusted as well.

4. A Computer on Wheels

In the Audi SUV, people can stay connected to the network anywhere they go. Available on the Q7 is Audi connect, a subscription service that can provide users with a Wi-Fi hotspots, turn-by-turn directions, and more. Audi connect, along with climate controls and certain apps, can be controlled through voice commands, physical buttons, or the touchscreen. These days, many are used to having instant access to all kinds of information, and it'll be no different in a Q7. Higher trims could also have the Audi phone box, a component that boosts cell signals and charges smartphones wirelessly.

5. On the Lookout

There are so many ways in which the Audi protects its passengers. Of course, it has all the standard components, such as airbags, crumple zones, a rearview camera, and anti-lock brakes, that are to be expected in a modern vehicle.

On top of that, it has several driver-assist technologies that are actively watching out for problems and are ready to jump into action at any moment. With available adaptive cruise control, the Audi can adjust its own speed to maintain proper distancing, and with Active Lane Assist, the vehicle can gently correct steering if the driver's attention is a bit lacking. Audi pre sense front is a system in which the SUV can sense imminent frontal collisions and can hit the brakes if necessary. Even more features, like a 360-degree camera view and automatic reverse braking, are found on the higher trims.

6. Sophistication is Evident

The Q7, like other Audis, feels like an expensive vehicle. This is because it has elegant wood inlays, interior lighting that adds to the ambience in the cabin, and a panoramic sunroof. The sunroof is longer than a typical one and extends far enough back that the passengers in the back can fully enjoy it. With the touch of a button, the sunroof can open up to let in air.

7. A Sporty Exterior

With a solid frame and aerodynamic appearance, the Q7 looks like it's ready to race down the highway. It can ride on 19- or 20-inch wheels, and aluminum roof rails and a roof spoiler on the tailgate are standard. LED headlights have been used on the lower trims, and they're upgraded to matrix-design LEDs on the Prestige trim. This type of design makes the lights really shine, almost as if they're jewelry being used as an accessory to the vehicle. Audi has complemented the headlights with aluminum trim around the windows and a tasteful, sleek front grille.

8. Versatile Cabin

There is room for up to seven passengers in the Audi Q7. When all seats are in their proper positions, there's about 14 cubic feet of storage space in the back. That area can be expanded to about 35 cubic feet by folding the third row down. When both rear rows are folded down, there's approximately 70 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Since the seats don't have to all be folded at once, there are many configurations that can accommodate gear and passengers at the same time.

9. Standard All-Wheel Drive

Rather than making it an option, Audi went ahead and put quattro all-wheel drive into all of its Q7s. AWD can significantly increase traction and make the SUV more adept at traveling on slippery roads.

10. Cool Extra Features

Luxury vehicles don't just look nicer than other types of vehicles. They're also packed with many more advantages to justify their higher prices. To reward its customers, Audi has put several systems into place on the Q7 that will leave people very impressed.

First, there's the option to put in all-wheel steering. This allows the vehicle to turn its rear wheels slightly to help with stability and cornering. Another amazing mechanism is adaptive air suspension. It's available on select models of the Q7, and it gives the vehicle the ability to adjust its height and suspension response. As the Q7 picks up speed, it can actually sink lower to the ground to reduce drag, and it does the opposite when dealing with rough roads.

Reasons Not to Buy a 2021 Audi Q7 – The Cons

1. Takes Tons of Gas

With the standard engine powering everything, the Audi only gets approximately 23 miles per gallon on the highway and 19 miles per gallon in the city. With the more capable engine under the hood, the numbers in this area are slightly lower. No one would ever imagine a vehicle like the Audi Q7 to win awards for its fuel efficiency, but honestly, these numbers are really easy for many SUVs to beat.

2. Small Third Row

There's no doubt that having a third row can be key for many situations. However, one has to question whether the third row makes much sense if its too small for larger adults to sit in. In the Audi Q7, the middle row has a generous amount of leg room, but the third row has only 29.2 inches of leg room. This would be ideal for kids but not too many other people.

3. Not Ideal for Off-Roading

The Q7 comes standard with all-wheel drive, but it's not exactly suited for extreme adventures. It doesn't have heavy-duty skid plates or trail-rated suspension systems like some other SUVs might. Though it's comparable in size to some small trucks and other large SUVs, it doesn't have the ruggedness that they might have.

How it Stacks Up to the Competition:

The world of luxury SUVs is one in which every detail matters. The various brands each have their own approach to style, but they all do well in the performance department. Here are a few ways that the Q7 separates itself from others in the class.

2021 Audi Q7 vs 2021 BMW X5

The base model of the BMW X5 is more expensive than the base model of the Audi Q7. The truth is that when someone is paying more than $50,000 for a new car, another $5,000 might not matter that much. At the same time, this price difference could push some people towards the Audi. A point of importance is that the BMW doesn't come with standard all-wheel drive like the Audi does, nor does it have a standard third row. A third row and all-wheel drive are available in the BMW, but they come at an extra cost.

2021 Audi Q7 vs 2021 Cadillac XT6

Some people may have not thought about the Cadillac brand in awhile, but it's still part of the market and, in fact, has a strong offering with its XT6 SUV. The XT6 is a little cheaper than the Q7 is, and it has the same amount of seating. What it doesn't have are some of the luxurious exterior details that the Audi has. It also doesn't have the same level of refinement in the cabin as seen in the Q7. One other benefit of going with the Q7 is that its base engine is more power than the standard engine in the Cadillac.

Conclusion

The 2021 Audi Q7 seems to have a lot of what people are interested in. It has great style, two good engine options, and upscale amenities. The SUV treats people to a lot of high-end materials and convenient features, not to mention all the advanced technology that it comes with. The Q7 would be a smart purchase for consumers with some money to spend who are in need of SUVs with room for seven passengers.
