Subaru Impreza Overview:

When it comes to compact cars, the 2019 Subaru Impreza is hard to beat. The Impreza has been a favorite among consumers for years thanks to its impressive record for safety, performance, and reliability. With standard all-wheel-drive and newly available driver assistance features, the new Impreza has more to love than ever.

What's New for 2019?

The biggest news for the 2019 Subaru Impreza involves the addition of EyeSight as an available feature on every trim except the Limited, on which it is standard. This unbelievably advanced system has two color cameras that are constantly scanning the road for potential dangers. It adds Lane Keep Assist and Sway Assistance, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, and Pre-Collision Braking. The 2019 Subaru Impreza scored the highest possible score for front crash prevention from the IIHS when equipped with EyeSight.

Other than that, changes are fairly unremarkable. The Premium trim, which has featured a 6.5" STARLINK multimedia system for awhile, now has Sirius XM radio and a single-CD player as well. This trim also now has dual USB ports in the backseat as well as 16-inch black alloy wheels. Consumers who go with a 2.0i Sport with a manual transmission now get a short throw shifter.

Fuel Efficient Yet Powerful

Each trim level of this vehicle is equipped with the same 2.0-liter flat-4 boxer engine. This provides drivers with 152-horsepower as well as 145 lb-ft of torque. Two of the trims, the 2.0i and Sport, offer consumers a 5-speed manual that makes the Impreza a bit more to fun. The other trims offer a standard CVT automatic transmission that gets slightly better gas mileage.

All versions of the 2019 Subaru Impreza have impressive fuel efficiency, but exactly how good it is will depend on the model consumers choose. The most efficient Imprezas are sedan versions with the automatic transmission, with an EPA estimated rating of 28 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on the highway. At the other end of the scale is the manual Sport hatchback, which will give drivers an estimated 22 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway.

Fun to Drive

The 2019 Subaru Impreza is more enjoyable to drive than its predecessor. The stiffer body, as well as the impressive steering responsiveness, can make consumers forget they are behind the wheel of a compact car. Inside the car, there is an impressive lack of road and engine noise. Even the base level of this car features incredibly comfortable seats and there is ample leg and headroom for everyone.

Impressive Safety Ratings

This vehicle received 5 out of 5 stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for frontal crash, side crash, and rollover ratings. On top of the available EyeSight system, there are many standard safety features on the Impreza. Notable ones include a Rear-Vision Camera, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Rollover Sensor, and Brake Assist.

Eye-Catching Exterior Design

Amazingly, Subaru managed to maintain the familiar appearance of the Impreza while also making it bigger and lower to the ground. Not only is the new version longer, but it is also wider as well. The grille and headlights are distinctly Subaru. Although the sedan is attractive, many consumers will be drawn to the impressively stylish hatchback.

Multiple Trim Levels and Configurations

Buyers in the market for a 2019 Subaru Impreza will have four different trim levels to choose from. Each of these trims is available in both a sedan and a 5-door, or hatchback, version.

  • 2.0i: This base level trim is fully-loaded with features like steering-wheel-mounted controls, remote keyless entry, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. It comes with the 5-speed manual transmission standard but can be upgraded to the CVT.
  • 2.0i Premium: In this trim, drivers get the All-Weather Package that adds heated seats and side mirrors as well as a windshield wiper de-icer. It comes with the CVT automatic standard. The 5-door 2.0i Premium adds a rear cargo cover and roof rails.

  • 2.0i Sport: This trim goes back to the manual transmission and has a sports-tuned suspension. It sits on bigger wheels and adds a rear spoiler and turn signal indicators on the side mirrors. Inside the Sport, consumers will find stylish red stitching on the seats, shifter, dash, and steering wheel.
  • 2.0i Limited: At the top of the 2019 Subaru Impreza line sits the 2.0i Limited. It has the EyeSight driver assistance features standard. This trim also adds leather seating, automatic climate control, fog lights, and a push-button start.

The 2019 Subaru Impreza is a great choice for a wide variety of consumers due to its well-thought-out design, standard all-wheel-drive, and comprehensive available safety features.

How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Subaru Impreza

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Subaru Impreza invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of all the options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here)

Note: All Subaru Impreza MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
