The Chevrolet Silverado has been one of the most popular full-size trucks for years now. The Silverado is known for its toughness and reliability. The new 2022 models are also attractive trucks with a lot of convenience features and modern amenities. Sometimes a regular full-sized pickup truck just isn't enough for the work one needs to do. That's where Chevrolet's Heavy-Duty Series of trucks comes in.

A standard Silverado light-duty truck will have the number designation of 1500 in its name. Heavy-duty, or HD, versions of this truck will be given the number 2500 or 3500. A 1500 is a half-ton truck, the 2500 is a three-quarter-ton truck and the 3500 is a one-ton truck. These numbers no longer accurately describe the truck's capabilities, as all of these Chevy models can haul more than those numbers would imply.

The important thing to note is that 1500 is considered a light-duty truck for light hauling and general driving. The 2500 and 3500 are for hauling and towing the heaviest of loads. The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is the most powerful truck that Chevrolet has to offer. The latest 3500HD will be available in a variety of body styles. It is offered with a number of different power-train and drive-train options as well.

There are four different trim levels for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. Chevrolet calls these the WT, LT, LTZ and High Country. Here is an overview of the features that each trim has to offer. Every trim level will be compared to the others in order to highlight their differences.

Compare the WT vs LT Trim Levels. What is the difference?

The base model of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is called the WT which stands for work truck. This truck is available in Regular-, Double- and Crew-Cab variations. Regular is a two-door truck. Double includes more backseat space and a half-size rear door. Crew Cabs have four full-sized doors and a full rear passenger area.

Crew Cab models of the WT come with standard or long cargo-box lengths. All other body styles have a long box by default. The WT is available with single or double wheels in the rear. Double wheels means more strength for hauling heavier loads. Trucks with double wheels are only available with the long box.

All body-style combinations are available with either Two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). All of these options are the same for the LT trim which is the next trim level up after the WT. Both trim levels have the same two power-train options as well. There's the standard 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine. There's also an optional 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine.

The gasoline-powered engine offers 401 horsepower with 464 pound-feet of torque. The diesel engine can produce 445 horsepower with an amazing 910 pound-feet of torque. All trim levels can have a maximum towing capacity of 36,000 pounds and a hauling capacity of 7,442 pounds. These maximum capability stats are achieved from Regular Cab models with a long box and 2WD. The maximum towing numbers require Chevrolet's Max Trailering Package.

Both the WT and the LT trim levels come with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. Both have a locking rear differential and a set of black recovery hooks. Both models get a 2-speed transfer case. The transfer case is electronic and features push-button controls. Every trim level of the Silverado 3500HD has Stabilitrak. This is Chevrolet's own electronic stability-control system with traction control.

The WT and LT have a recirculating ball with smart-flow power-steering system. They both get the standard Chevrolet Silverado Suspension Package. The mechanical features and performance stats of these two trim levels are virtually identical. The major differences here depend on the cosmetic, convenience and safety features.

On the outside, the WT sports a set of 18-inch steel wheels with a silver paint scheme. The LT has a set of 18-inch, 6-spoke machined-aluminum wheels. Both models get a set of 18-inch all-terrain tires. The LT gets a bunch of extra options here for different wheel sizes and styles. Both trims have halogen reflector headlamps.

The WT gets black exterior mirrors, bumpers and door handles. The LT has black vertical trailering mirrors. The LT bumpers are chrome while the door handles match the body color of the truck. The rear lights are incandescent. The LT has the option for LED fog lamps, which are completely unavailable for the WT trim.

The WT has Chevy's standard tailgate with the automaker's EZ Liftgate technology. The LT has EZ Lift Assist and a power lock-and-release feature for the tailgate. On the inside, there's a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat for both trims. The driver and front passenger have their own 4-way manual adjustments. There's also a center console and armrest to separate the two seating spaces.

The WT has a monochromatic Driver Information Center while the LT gets a 4.2-inch color display. Both models of the Silverado 3500HD have the same Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System. The WT has a 7-inch color touchscreen while the LT has an 8-inch screen. There's a standard AM/FM radio and 6-speaker audio system installed in both trim levels. There's Bluetooth streaming capabilities for up to two devices at the same time.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps are compatible with the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System. The LT trim also gets a WiFi Hotspot. Both truck models have power locks and windows. Moving up to the LT trim comes with OnStar capabilities and Chevrolet Connected Services. It also gets the buyer of a new model a free trial to SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Both of these trim levels have cloth upholstery. The LT gets carpeted floors and rubberized-vinyl floor mats. The LT also comes equipped with cruise control. When it comes to the safety features, the WT and LT trim levels have six airbags and daytime running lamps. They both get a rear-view camera, a tire-pressure monitor and Chevrolet's Teen Driver Technology.

The Chevy Teen Driver Technology allows the driver to customize vehicle settings and attach these settings to a key FOB. Safety features can be set to engage automatically while other features can be limited or turned off completely. This system even produces a kind of report card to let the owner know how their teen driver is doing when behind the wheel.

Compare the LT vs LTZ Trims. What is the difference?

After the LT trim model, the next level up is called the LTZ. This trim is only available in the Crew Cab body style. It can be had with either a long or short cargo box. The options for single or dual rear wheels are still available. The choices of 2WD or 4WD are available again as well.

The LTZ has the same two engine choices and the same transmission system as the WT and LT trims. The LTZ has an upgraded Autotrac 2-speed transfer case. It also gets Digital Variable Steering Assist. For the exterior, the LTZ comes with more chrome parts and trim. Some of the extra chromed-out parts include the door handles, the mirror caps and both bumpers.

The LTZ model upgrades the headlights to a set of LED reflector lamps. It also comes with LED fog lamps and taillights. The moldings and belt line are made of stainless steel on the LTZ. The outside mirrors get a power-folding and a power-adjustment feature. Liners are added for the rear wheelhouse and power-retractable assist steps can be added on as an option.

On the inside, the LTZ gets a major upgrade for the front seats. Both now have 10-way power adjustments. The front driver's seat also gets power-adjustable lumbar support. There's now a 120-volt power outlet as well as two 12-volt power outlets. There's a 12-volt outlet up front and an additional one for the rear passengers.

The LTZ has an Advanced Trailering System. This includes customizable trailer profiles, a pre-departure checklist and a trailer tire-pressure monitor. The system also provides maintenance reminders and security alerts. The infotainment system gets upgraded to the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus System. This includes an 8-inch color touchscreen with HD graphics.

A new driver-memory system allows for saving seat positions and other settings. Dual-Zone Climate Control is added for a more comfortable environment. The upholstery is upgraded to perforated leather. The steering wheel gets a nice leather wrap too. There's a Hitch Guidance System for the LTZ, and the rear-view mirror now comes with an auto-dimming feature.

Remote Start and Keyless Entry are added on to the LTZ trim level. The safety features are mostly the same when comparing the LTZ to the LT trim. The LTZ gets a nicer, HD rear-view camera. That sums up just about all of the differences here.

Compare the LTZ vs High Country. What is the difference?

Last, but certainly not least, is the High Country trim level. This is the top-tier trim level for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. The High Country is only available in the Crew Cab body style and can only be had in the 4WD configuration. If single rear wheel is selected, the buyer can choose a standard or long bed. If dual rear wheels are selected, then long bed is the only option.

There's nothing really different about the High Country when it comes to the mechanical features, engine choices and transmission system. These are all basically the same as those found on the LTZ trim models. On the outside, the High Country comes with a wide array of wheel choices. A set of 20-inch polished-aluminum wheels with 16 spokes is standard.

The High Country gets 6-inch assist steps with a chrome finish. The cargo bed gets its own camera system so that the driver can keep their eyes on whatever they're hauling around. There's also now LED lighting for the cargo bed. There's a spray-in bed liner to provide more protection for the surface of the cargo area. The rear-view camera from previous trim levels gets replaced with an HD surround-vision camera.

The chrome bumpers of the LTZ are replaced with body-colored bumpers for the High Country. There's now a power tailgate and a power sliding rear window with a defogger. On the inside, the driver display gets enlarged one more time to an 8-inch model. The sound system is upgraded to a premium system by BOSE. The BOSE stereo is paired with 7 premium speakers and a Richbass woofer.

The Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium System for the High Country models now comes with a built-in navigation system. There are also extra USB ports and a Universal Home Remote. The front bench seat gets removed to make way for two bucket seats. The seat trim is once again leather. The bucket seats still have 10-way power adjustments with lumbar support for the driver's chair, just like in the LTZ trim.

The High Country gets some nice additional driver-assist features. There's Front and Rear Park Assist. There's a Lane-Change Alert as well as a Side Blind-Zone Alert. The High Country also comes equipped with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. All of the basic safety features that were found on the LTZ get carried over to the High Country.

Which Trim to Choose?

Which trim level to choose will depend on what the truck will primarily be used for. If it's a company vehicle, then the base WT trim level should be just fine. If its the buyer's personal work truck, then the LT upgrades are totally worth it, even if this will just be a work truck. It will make for a more pleasant experience for anyone who spends a lot of time inside of the Silverado 3500HD.

For buyers who plan to use this truck as their primary source of transportation, then the top-tier High Country is absolutely worth the additional cost. The extra convenience features and driver-assist technology make this truck a fantastic daily driver. Once again, for maximum capabilities, one needs a 2WD truck with the diesel engine and Max Trailering Package. Whether or not this is necessary will depend on the nature of the work that the buyer needs to do.
