What 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport Trim Should You Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport is a subcompact crossover SUV. The Rogue Sport is not to be confused with its larger, mid-size counterpart that Nissan simply calls the Rogue. This is a really affordable little SUV that offers good value for your money. It's economical to own too, with great fuel-economy numbers. Nissan has also packed a lot of interior space for both people and cargo into this compact vehicle.

The Rogue Sport offers a smooth and refined ride. It's not a high-performance vehicle by any means, but its engine has plenty enough power to zip around town in. Steering and handling are good and quite comparable to other vehicles in this class. One of the real highlights of the Rogue Sport is the amount of features and technology that it offers for such a great price.

The interior of the Rogue Sport is surprisingly well built. It's almost luxurious for its price point. This is a nice looking car too, both inside and out. Nissan provides a good amount of safety features and driver-assist tech to keep everyone protected inside of the Rogue Sport. The automaker offers great warranty coverage here too.

Nissan offers the 2022 Rogue Sport in three different trim levels. The automaker simply calls these the S, SV and SL models. All three trim levels share the same powertrain and basic mechanical features. Most of the differences come from the comfort and convenience features. Here is a look at the three trim levels and how they compare to one another.


Compare the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport S vs SV Trim Levels. What Is the Difference?

All three trim levels of the Rogue Sport are powered by a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine with dual overhead cams and 16 valves. The engine uses Nissan's Direct-Ignition System with platinum-tipped spark plugs. This engine produces 141 horsepower at 6,000 revolutions-per-minute (rpm). It also makes 147 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm.

All trim levels get Nissan's Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). The CVT has a Manual Shift Mode when more control is needed. There's also an Eco Mode that focuses on making the vehicle performance more efficient. The S, SV and SL models are all front-wheel drive vehicles.

No matter what trim level is selected, the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport has an EPA-estimated, combined fuel-economy rating of 28 miles-per-gallon (mpg). More specifically, that's 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg while cruising along on the highway. These two trim levels have a 4-wheel, Anti-lock Brake System. These are vented disc brakes for great performance and plenty of stopping power.

All models of the Rogue Sport have an Electronic Brake-Force Distribution feature. The SV has an optional electronic parking brake, a feature that is unavailable to the base trim level. Both trims have electronic power steering with a special Sport Mode. This mode tightens up the steering dynamics for better performance in certain situations.

There's an independent-strut front suspension and an independent, multi-link rear suspension. The suspension setup also offers a stabilizer bar up front and in the rear. Nissan has done an admirable job here with this solid suspension system. It provides a comfortable ride quality for the Rogue Sport. It soaks up pretty much whatever the road throws at it.

On the outside of the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport, these two trim levels have 17-inch, aluminum-alloy wheels. These are equipped with a set of all-season tires. Both trims get halogen headlights with an automatic On/Off feature. There are also LED signature, daytime-running lamps. The SV trim also has a pair of fog lamps.

The S and SV trim levels have black wheel-arch moldings and black rocker panels. There's a rear spoiler and approach lighting for both models. The SV trim gets heated exterior mirrors with LED turn-signal indicators. Another unique feature of the SV is the addition of roof rails for some extra storage space on top of the vehicle.

On the inside of the Rogue Sport, the S trim has a comfortable 6-way manual driver's seat. It features a 4-way manual seat for the front passenger. There's a 60/40 split-folding seat in the back. This trim level has cloth seat coverings. Moving up to the SV trim level gets the buyer an 8-way, power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support.

The front-passenger seat stays the same in the SV trim. All of the seats here get upgraded, premium-cloth upholstery. SV buyers can also choose to swap out the premium-cloth seats for some high-grade leather upholstery. The SV models also come with Quick Comfort® heated front seats, a leather-wrapped shift knob and a leather-covered steering wheel.

A memory system for the driver's seat and exterior mirrors is offered for the SV trim. This is a great feature for buyers who plan to have more than one driver for their Rogue Sport. Both trims have power windows and door locks. The windows have a one-push Up/Down feature while the locks have an auto-locking mechanism.

Both trim levels have a telescoping steering column that tilts for the perfect setup. They both feature plenty of small-item storage spaces such as a center console, overhead storage and map pockets. There are four cup holders, four bottle holders and a center armrest for the rear seats.

All models of the Rogue Sport come equipped with variable, intermittent windshield wipers up front and a single wiper for the rear window. There are six cargo tie-down hooks in the back storage area. The SV trim has a Divide-N-Hide® Cargo System to make organizing the stuff you haul a lot easier. It also features a cargo cover to hide that stuff from prying eyes while you're out and about. While on the topic of cargo hauling, the Rogue Sport has a maximum storage volume of 61.1 cubic-feet.

And now for some of the major differences, the S trim gets a simple heating and A/C system. The SV has Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control. The SV also gets Nissan Intelligent Key with a push-button ignition. There's also a Remote Engine-Start System and illuminated vanity mirrors for both visors.

These two trim levels have basically the same infotainment system, though the SV trim has six speakers while the S trim only gets four. Both have an Am/FM stereo with a CD player. The system has Bluetooth for streaming music and making hands-free phone calls. Voice-Recognition Technology, Apple CarPlay integration and Android Auto compatibility are all onboard here.

This Nissan infotainment system has an auxiliary input jack and plenty of USB ports for connecting and/or charging your smartphone. The system offers MP3/WMA and CD-playback capabilities. Siri® Eyes Free integration is built into the system as well. There's even a feature to allow hands-free text messaging.

In addition to the Voice-Recognition Technology, features can be accessed through the touchscreen display. Some of the audio controls are also mounted directly on the steering wheel for easy access. Nissan includes a SiriusXM® Radio 3-month trial for new buyers. This is included for all three trim levels.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport has plenty of driver-assist technology. This is designed to make the driver's life easier, as well as to keep everyone a little bit safer inside of the Rogue Sport. All models get features like Cruise Control, High-Beam Assist and a Rear-View Monitor. There's also Active Ride Control to mitigate road bumps for a smoother ride.

All three trim levels have Intelligent Forward-Collision Warning. There's also Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection to help the driver to avoid accidents. The Intelligent Lane Intervention, Lane-Departure Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert give the driver a better awareness of what's going on around them while keeping them safely in their own lane. There's even a Blind-Spot Monitor to keep track of those areas around the vehicle that are hard to see.

The Rear Sonar System helps when driving in reverse. All models also get Intelligent Engine Brake and Hill Start Assist. The SV trim level has access to an optional Intelligent Around View® Monitor for an even better view around the vehicle. The SV models also get access to Nissan's ProPILOT Assist. This feature makes minor adjustments to make sure you stay safely in your own lane and a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you.

Most of the SV trim level's optional driver-assist features come as part of Nissan's Technology Package. This package is unavailable to the S trim level. All three trim levels share the same Advanced Airbag System. There are dual-stage front airbags, side-impact front airbags and supplemental knee airbags for the driver and front passenger. There are also seat-mounted, side-impact airbags and a roof-mounted curtain airbag to protect the rear-seat passengers.

All trim levels of the Rogue Sport come with the LATCH System to tether child safety seats in securely. There's a 3-point seat-belt system with pretensioners and load limiters up front. Nissan has also employed clever engineering to make the Rogue Sport a safer vehicle. The automaker uses Zone Body Construction with crumple zones in front and back, as well as a reinforced passenger compartment.

Some of the additional, passive safety features include hood-buckling creases, a slide-way brake-peddle assembly, side-door guard beams and an energy-absorbing steering column. Everything is built to channel crash energy away from the occupants in the vehicle. All trim levels also get a Nissan Security System to prevent theft, and an engine immobilizer, just in case the vehicle does get stolen.

Compare the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport SV vs the SL Trims. What Is the Difference?

The top trim level of the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport is called the SL model. This model has the same engine, transmission system and drive train as the S and SV trims. The brakes and steering are the same as well. It's mechanically identical as the other trims and offers the same performance specs and fuel-economy numbers. It does get the electronic parking brake that's only optional for the SL, however.

Moving up to the SL trim level comes with a set of new 19-inch alloy wheels. LED headlights can be added on to the SL trim. There's also an optional power-sliding glass moon-roof. On the inside, the SL gets some extra small-item storage spaces, like map pockets on the back of the front seats. The rear-view mirror gets an auto-dimming feature and a HomeLink® Universal Transceiver.

The SL seats are the same as before, though now covered with leather-appointed upholstery. Power adjustments can now be added to the front-passenger's seat. The infotainment system now has a navigation system. The audio setup can be swapped out for a premium system by Bose.

While Nissan's ProPILOT Assist was optional for the SV, it's now standard for the SL models. This top trim level also automatically comes with the Intelligent Around View® Monitor. The SL gets a neat Traffic-Sign Recognition feature. It also comes with Intelligent Driver Awareness, a driver-assist feature that helps prevent accidents due to driver fatigue.

All of the remaining safety features mentioned for the SV trim get carried over to the SL models. This top trim also gets the same security system and engine immobilizer as before. Other than some extra options, that covers all of the differences for the SL trim model. It may not seem like a lot, but there's only a small increase in price here when going from the SV to the SL.

Which Trim to Choose?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport is a solid little compact SUV. It has a lot to offer no matter which trim level one chooses. It comes in at a great price, and even better, there's never much of a difference in cost when moving up a trim level. The difference in price between the S and SV trim levels is so small that it's almost negligible. Consequently, there's very little reason to settle for the base model when one can get the extra features of the SV model for next to nothing.

While the price increase from the SV to the SL is a little more substantial, it's still a really small jump. There's just no reason to settle for anything less than the best here. Buyers should aim right for the top and select the SL trim level. They'll get the best of what Nissan has to offer, and a few more options if they wish to further customize their Rogue Sport.
