As a compact car, the 2021 Nissan Sentra looks attractive and is competitively priced. It's a practical sedan that feels far from basic in many ways. For someone on a limited budget, it could be a wise move to invest in the Sentra, as it offers good value and is quite practical.
What Has Changed in 2021?
Nissan has only tweaked a few things with the Sentra for the 2021 model year. People will appreciate that it now comes standard with smartphone compatibility. This is becoming a feature that some consumers feel that they must have in their next vehicles, so putting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into the base model of the Sentra was a smart decision.
On the higher trim of the Sentra, there are some more available features. If anyone wants to stand out, there's the opportunity to get a two-tone exterior paint combination. There is also the option to set the car up with Wi-Fi capability and NissanConnect Services.
To keep things simple, there are only three Nissan Sentra trims. The first is the S. It has a seven-inch touchscreen that's easy to interact with, and on top of smartphone compatibility, there's Bluetooth and voice recognition. Remote keyless entry and push-button start are both very convenient, and the S manages to stand out in a crowded field with an array of driver-assist systems. Rear automatic braking make it much less likely that a driver would back up into an object, and automatic emergency braking does a good job of helping to prevent frontal collisions.
The mid-level trim is the SV. It has 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels instead of steel ones, and it has remote engine start and a Nissan Intelligent Key system. Inside the cabin of the SV, it has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and premium cloth seats to make things feel more upscale. The infotainment touchscreen measures eight inches, and there is an additional seven-inch display that shows key vehicle information. At the top of the lineup sits the SR. It distinguishes itself from the others by having 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and fog lights, and a special grille. There are several other exterior enhancements that make the SR look quite athletic. Enhancing the aesthetic of the car is a sport cloth upholstery with orange stitching for contrast. There's the option to get the SR with synthetic leather seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats.
Driving the Sentra
All three trims of the Sentra use the same type of engine. It's a two-liter version that has four cylinders. It comes with 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, and it's been paired with a continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, as one would expect from a car of this type.
The Sentra isn't going to be the most exciting vehicle to drive around town, but it's not going to let anyone down either. It has enough power get people safely from one point to another, whether they're dealing with stop-and-go traffic or are zooming down the highway.
One thing that can attract some attention from potential buyers is the Sentra's estimated fuel economy. It can earn up to 39 miles per gallon on the highway, and in the city, it can achieve up to 29 miles per gallon.
It was already mentioned that the Sentra has an impressive and somewhat surprising amount of standard driver-assist systems. It's notable enough that it deserves to be discussed in greater detail. On the base model, beyond what has already been noted, there is rear cross-traffic alert as well as automatic high beams. The rear sonar system can be very useful at keeping drivers from picking up scratches and dings while parking. Since the forward collision warning system has pedestrian detection, drivers can have a lot of peace of mind as they head out on the roads.
Intelligent cruise control is standard on the two higher trims. This program can be engaged when the driver doesn't want to get too fatigued on long trips. Like traditional cruise control, it can maintain a set speed. Its advantage is that it can adjust its speed if the car in front slows down.
An intelligent all-around monitor is available on the SR. Providing the driver with a 360-degree perspective of what's going on around the vehicle, this monitoring system can come in handy when maneuvering around tight spaces.
This car can fit five total passengers. In the front, leg room is 44 inches. In the second row, there's almost 35 inches of leg room. In terms of cargo capacity, the Sentra's trunk has a volume of just more than 14 cubic feet, so it can definitely fit luggage and other gear.
