The Nissan Sentra has long remained one of America’s favorite compact cars. Many people will like what the latest generation brings to the table. Not only does the 2022 Nissan Sentra score top marks in comfort and safety, but it also has a very stylish exterior design. While the new model isn’t the segment’s most powerful model, drivers will enjoy its smooth road manners. Of course, affordability is another one of this car's strong points.

What’s New for 2022?

Two new packages have arrived. While the Midnight Edition package decks out the Sentra with black alloy wheels and other black details, the All-Weather package adds a few comforting features.

The Senta is classified as a compact sedan that seats up to five people. All versions of the car use a front-wheel-drive setup.

What Are the Available Trims?

When searching for a new 2022 Nissan Sentra, potential buyers will have three trims to select from. The base S model is the least luxurious. However, it provides a rewarding Nissan Connect infotainment unit. Many people will appreciate the 7.0-inch touchscreen’s easy operation. With the use of Android Auto and Android Auto, the driver can quickly link their smartphone to the interface.

Although the Sentra SR does not really offer any additional performance, it does look sportier. Two-zone automatic temperature control and remote start are standard. For an extra cost, buyers can equip the sedan with an SR Premium package. This package adds quite a few niceties, including a better-sounding Bose premium audio system and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Sentra’s Exterior Styling

Many of the Sentra’s exterior styling cues were taken from the larger Nissan Altima. These two sedans have an extremely similar front fascia, which features a prominent V-Motion grille.

While plain steel wheels come equipped on the S trim, Nissan enhances the SV trim’s attractiveness with 17-inch alloy wheels. Sportier bodywork and 18-inch alloy wheels make the Sentra SR look especially cool. Folks who want to turn more heads can opt for the SR trim’s blacked-out Midnight Edition package. A two-tone paint scheme is offered as well.

Driving Experience

Nissan only offers the Sentra with one powertrain. Every trim receives a 149-horsepower engine, which is paired to a continuously variable automatic transmission. Although the Sentra isn’t known for its quick acceleration, this car feels peppy around town.

The 2022 Nissan Sentra is an effortless car to drive. A sophisticated rear suspension helps it to offer admirable handling. When driving over rough roads, Active Ride Control helps to limit any bumpiness. There’s no AWD system on the Sentra’s list of options. Folks who need this feature may have to step up to the more expensive Nissan Altima.

Fuel Economy

Nissan’s Xtronic transmission helps curb fuel consumption by keeping the engine running at a low rpm. According to the federal government, this compact sedan has a fuel economy rating of 29 mpg town/39 mpg freeway. Expect the slightly sportier SR trim to return 28 mpg town/37 mpg highway. The powertrain is designed to use regular octane gasoline.

Quality and Comfort

The Sentra comes standard with Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats, which are consistently ranked among the comfiest in the segment. While there’s a decent amount of leg space in the rear, six-footers may need a bit more room. Despite its affordable price tag, the Sentra doesn’t have a cheap-feeling interior. Build quality is quite good.

Safety

Good crash scores make the Sentra a safe daily driver. Upper trims receive rear disc brakes for quicker stops. Meanwhile, the SR trim’s upgraded LED headlamps further brighten the road at night. Helpful driving aids, such as forward/rear automatic braking and blind-spot warning, come standard. While available intelligent cruise control enables drivers to relax more on the freeway, Nissan’s Around View Monitor camera system makes parking lot obstacles more visible.

For good reason, the 2022 Nissan Sentra is a popular compact model. Don’t make the mistake of not taking it for a test drive.
