The EcoSport is a compact SUV that may be small, but it's big on value. Every model comes equipped with all-wheel drive for excellent traction and handling. The EcoSport is easy to park and maneuver around town. It's also quite capable at highway speeds or on winding back-roads. This compact SUV has room for five people and a surprisingly generous amount of cargo space.
With all five seats in use, there's still 20.9 cubic-feet of cargo space in the back. The rear seats can be folded down flat to expand this area. The EcoSport offers a maximum cargo volume of 50 cubic-feet. It also offers a unique, swing-out tailgate that makes it easy to load and unload cargo. Ford offers a good amount of standard features for this SUV, making it a good bargain.
Another surprising benefit of this compact SUV is that it has legitimate towing capabilities. Ford states that it's rated to pull up to 2,000 pounds. That's perfect for a small trailer or perhaps a boat. The EcoSport can tow more than most of the other vehicles in its class. This makes the compact SUV quite suitable for recreational outings or even long road-trips.
The 2022 Ford EcoSport is available in four different trim levels. All four versions have the same powertrain. The mechanical features and performance stats are all the same. The differences are in the convenience and safety features, as well as some cosmetic changes here and there. Here's a look at all four trim levels and how they compare with each other.
Compare the 2022 Ford EcoSport S vs SE Trims. What is the difference?
Every model of the 2022 Ford EcoSport has a 2.0-liter Ti-VCT Engine. This is an inline, 4-cylinder engine with Auto Start/Stop Technology. This tech automatically shuts down the engine at key times in order to conserve fuel. There's a SelectShift® brand, 6-speed automatic transmission for every trim. All models also come with 4-wheel disc, anti-locking brakes.
Ford's Intelligent 4WD (four-wheel drive) system adds just the right amount of traction for any situation. This adds to the great handling of the vehicle and makes it safer to drive during inclement weather. The EcoSport also has an advanced Traction-Control System that works in tandem with the 4WD. The electronic power-assisted steering provides agile and accurate driving dynamics.
The EcoSport also boasts some advanced tech when it comes to the mechanical features. This includes AdvanceTrac® and Roll-Stability Control. This further improves the already-great traction. It also increases stopping power, adds stability and makes for more responsive handling. The little EcoSport fares really well during rain, snow and even over gravel.
Another interesting feature is the Torque Vectoring Control. This allows the EcoSport to channel torque to a specific wheel. This improves the grip and handling of the vehicle even further. All of these systems work together for a stable, safer and more exhilarating driving experience.
This powertrain gets around 23 miles-per-gallon during city commutes. It can get up to 29 miles-per-gallon at highway speeds. The engine makes 166 horsepower and 149 pound-feet of torque. If those numbers don't sound high enough, consider that this is a very small, lightweight vehicle. As previously stated, that's enough horses to pull an extra 2,000 pounds, and acceleration is more than adequate.
On the outside of the S trim, there's a set of 16-inch machined-face aluminum wheels. These come painted in a Low-Gloss Magnetic color. There's the previously mentioned swinging tailgate. The headlights are basic halogen models, though there are configurable LED daytime-running lamps. The base model also gets Ford's Easy Fuel® capless filler to reduce splash-back and to help prevent fuel theft.
The grille is surrounded by black trim and has black bars. There's also black belt-line molding. There's privacy glass all around as well as an acoustic-laminated windshield. The S trim features variable intermittent wipers and a washer up front. There's a single intermittent wiper with a washer in back.
On the inside, The S trim has power windows and locks. There are cloth-covered seats. These are 4-way manual bucket seats up front, and 60/40 seats in the back that can flip up as well as fold flat. The S trim has a basic heating system and air-conditioning. There's a number of small-item storage spaces and a total of eight cup-holders throughout the cabin.
The gauge cluster has some cool lighting in a shade that Ford calls Ice Blue. There's a message center, trip computer and compass. The outside temperature can also be displayed. There are two 12V outlets and two USB ports. The S trim gets a basic AM/FM stereo. The Ford Sync Infotainment System has a 4.2-inch LCD screen and Voice-Recognition Technology.
There's an interior cargo cover to hide whatever you're hauling from prying eyes. Ford includes four cargo tie-downs too, so that the cargo doesn't slide around. The base trim gets some driver-assist tech such as Ford's SOS Post-Crash Alert System. It also offers a remote-start system and remote keyless entry.
There are dual-stage airbags up front. In addition to the front bags, there are side-mounted bags and knee bags for the driver and front passenger. Ford also includes side airbags for the second row of seats and their proprietary Safety Canopy side-curtain airbags. A standard Tire-Pressure Monitor helps to ensure those tires aren't too low or dangerously overinflated.
All Ford EcoSport models include the LATCH system for tethering down child safety seats. There are head restraints and 3-point belts for every seat position. An audible warning goes off to remind passengers to buckle up, if they haven't already. There's a rear camera to assist with backing up. The S trim also gets a passive anti-theft system.
The SE trim level has the same powertrain and mechanical features as the S trim. The horsepower, torque rating and fuel-economy numbers are all the same for both trims. On the outside, the SE has 16-inch aluminum wheels, just like the S trim. This time, however, they come painted in a Shadow Silver color. This trim gets halogen, quad-beam projector headlights and the same LED daytime-running lamps as before.
Some cosmetic differences for the SE trim include silver lining for the front grille, black headlight bezels and body-colored door handles. A set of black roof rails provides some extra storage space on top of the SUV. This trim gets more features along with its Ford Co-Pilot360™ Technology. Some of these include parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring that can even detect rear cross-traffic.
Moving up to the SE trim comes with an upgraded sound system. There's a more powerful stereo with seven speakers. The sound system is now compatible with SiriusXM® Radio. It's also now set up for MP3 playback. This trim level gets the SYNC 3 Infotainment System with a bigger 8-inch touchscreen and an optional navigation system.
The infotainment setup now offers a 4G WiFi hot-spot so that every passenger can get online. The SE models have heated front seats, map pockets and some extra small-item storage spaces. The basic heating and cooling systems get replaced with an Electronic Automatic Climate-Control System.
The SE has push-button start and some nicer, carpeted floor mats in front and back. Ambient-interior lighting is available as an option. One of the biggest interior upgrades is the power moon-roof with its sunshade. The gear-shift is wrapped in leather, there's an overhead console for glasses, and there's now a center floor console with an armrest. The next trim level up after the SE is called the SES model. Although the SES has the same engine and transmission system as the previous two models, it does get a significant performance upgrade. This trim comes equipped with a sport-tuned suspension for better handling and a smoother ride. This version of the EcoSport can take on curvy roads with ease.
On the outside, the SES trim gets 17-inch aluminum wheels. This time, the wheels come painted in black. The front windshield wipers now have a rain-sensing feature. They'll kick on automatically at the first sign of precipitation. The outside trim and many exterior parts get a glossy-black finish for the SES models.
This trim level automatically gets parking sensors and Ford's BLIS system that monitors potential blind-spots. The driver's seat is now a 6-way power seat, while the front-passenger's seat has 4-way manual adjustments. There's also heating for the seats up front, as well as a heated steering wheel. The seats are now covered with Ford's ActiveX material instead of the plain cloth.
The new steering wheel has audio controls for easier access. There's a shiny chrome insert and some stitching for the leather cover, to give the steering wheel a more upscale look. Once again, the safety features and driver-assist tech remain mostly the same.

The top trim level for the 2022 Ford EcoSport is called the Titanium model. Again, the trim level has the same powertrain and mechanical features as before. It actually loses the sport-tuned suspension, however. This is something to keep in mind for buyers who value performance over convenience features. The exterior gets a chrome grille and a whole lot of new chrome trim.
Moving up to this trim level comes with a perimeter alarm to keep the vehicle more secure. The steering wheel has a leather cover and a heating feature. Most of the convenience features of the SES trim get carried over here for the Titanium model. The infotainment system has compatibility with Apple CarPlay. A remote-start system is available as an option.
One of the biggest additions for the Titanium trim is the upgraded sound system. The Titanium has a B&O Audio System with 10 speakers. The speakers are strategically placed for an incredible, surround-sound experience. The stereo boasts plenty of volume thanks to its 660-watts of power. It also offers HD Radio™ Technology and a subwoofer for deep, rich bass sounds.
A number of packages can be added on to the Titanium trim level. There's a Cargo Management Package with a cargo net and an organizer. The optional Interior Protection Package adds on floor liners and a cargo mat. Basically, the Titanium takes all of the perks of the SES and then adds to or improves upon them.
Which Trim to Choose?
One thing to note about the 2022 Ford EcoSport trim levels is that they're never too far apart in price. It's almost like Ford is just dangling the next trim level in front of the buyer, saying "for a little bit more, you can get all of these extras!" For those on a budget, the SE trim will be a fine choice. It has some serious upgrades over the base model, and the price difference is negligible.
For most buyers, it's recommended to go straight to the top. Even when compared to the base model, the top-level Titanium trim isn't that much more expensive. There's no reason to settle for less features here. The Titanium model simply has the best of everything and is easily the best value.
