There is no shortage of SUVs on the market in 2022. In fact, the number to choose from may be overwhelming for many drivers. Each brand has several offerings, making it even harder for any individual SUV to stand out.
Ford has multiple offerings in this segment of the market. The 2022 Ford Edge has to distinguish itself from competitors from other brands. At the same time, it lives in the shadows of its better-known siblings, like the Explorer and Expedition. To help give it an advantage, the 2022 Edge comes standard with all-wheel drive and a brand-new 12-inch touchscreen. This year also sees the introduction of new packages for customizing the SUV.
Ultimately, there are five trim levels available for the 2022 Edge. There is an art to finding the right model, which involves balancing the cost with the desired features. Without the proper information, this can be difficult to do.

Compare the 2022 Ford Edge SE vs. SEL Trims. What is the difference?
The entry-level Edge will cost buyers just under $35,000 in 2022. Popping the hood of this SUV will reveal a 2.0L EcoBoost engine that produces 250-horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Active grille shutters come standard, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission. As of 2022, all-wheel drive is the only available drivetrain. Despite this, the Edge gets respectable fuel economy. This engine is estimated to get 21mpg in the city and 28mpg on the highway.
For the wheels, 18-inch silver-painted aluminum ones come standard. Buyers can also opt for 19-inch gloss black ones if they prefer for the Edge SE. They are part of a trim-exclusive appearance package that also includes a black grille. Hill-start assist, post-collision braking, and auto stop/start technology are all standard mechanical features as well.
The side mirrors have black caps for the SE. Black roof rack side rails are an option, and black lower cladding is standard. There are automatic Bi-LED headlamps that can turn themselves on and off when the windshield wipers do. Both the daytime running lights and taillights are LED, adding to the brilliant illumination of this SUV.
For the cabin, Ford gives the Edge SE dual-zone automatic climate control and a cabin particulate air filter. A push-button start comes standard. A cargo management system, eight cupholders, and interior LED lights are all included as well.
As for the tech, the Edge SE comes with a 12-inch multi-function screen. It runs the new Sync 4A infotainment system, which incorporates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. This system is applauded for its intuitiveness. A Wi-Fi hotspot is also found in all 2022 Edge models. There are four smart USB charging ports and two 12-volt outlets for keeping gear going on the road. The steering wheel-mounted controls make it easy to control all of these high-tech features.
The driver gets four-way manual adjustment for their seat. Both of the front bucket seats have the ability to recline, and cloth seats are standard. In the back, there is a 60/40 split-folding rear seat that also has a reclining feature.
Cargo space is adequate for the Edge SE, as well as the rest of the lineup. Behind the second row, nearly 40 cubic feet are ready to haul groceries or luggage. Folding down the back row will mean there are 73.4 cubic feet to work with, which is around average for a two-row midsize SUV.
A tire pressure monitoring system with an individual tire pressure display is equipped on all 2022 Edge trim levels. They all also get the CoPilot 360 bundle, which includes forward-collision mitigation, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring. A lane-keeping system is also standard for the SE.
Next up is the Edge SEL. It has the same powertrain and rides on the same standard wheels. The SEL is not available with 19-inch wheels, however. The available roof rack side rails are silver rather than black, and the side mirrors are body-colored. Those same side mirrors become heated and get security approach lamps as well.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel is added to this trim level. The front seats are heated, and the driver's seat has a 10-way power adjustment. Front passengers get to play with four-way power adjustment in the SEL. The second row of seats gets an "easy-fold" feature to make it easier to convert the Edge from hauling passengers to hauling cargo.
On the dashboard, the Edge SEL has two 4.2-inch LCDs to make it easier to get important info at a glance. This model also gets an auto-dimming rearview mirror. It is the first on the list to offer things like a power liftgate, heated steering wheel, and a voice-activated navigation system, although none of those features are standard yet.
The SEL is also the first model that can add the CoPilot 360 Assist+ package. It includes the navigation system, plus evasive steering assist. That last feature can add necessary steering input to help avoid a potential collision. Adaptive cruise control, which maintains a set distance between the Edge and the vehicle ahead, is found inside this package as well.
This trim level costs approximately $2,500 more than the entry-level SE. If buyers are willing to pay more, there are several packages available for the SEL trim level. The Adventure package consists of all-terrain tires, gray exterior accents, and more durable synthetic leather upholstery. As for the Convenience package, it bundles things like remote start, wireless device charging, and a security alarm.
The SEL trim is also the first option on the list that is available with the Class II Towing package. It adds trailer sway control and gives the Edge the ability to tow up to 3,500 pounds. This package remains optional for the ST-Line and Titanium models, but it becomes standard on the top Titanium trim.

The ST-Line has a more aggressive look, but it does not back it up with any mechanical upgrades. This SUV sits on 20-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels. It also has special ST-Line badging to help it turn heads. This trim has LED fog lamps as well, and this is the first Edge to get a standard power tailgate.
Inside, there are several enticing upgrades. The ST-Line comes standard with a remote start, along with a wireless charging pad. A universal garage door opener and 110-volt power outlet are added to the standard equipment list here. The leather-wrapped steering wheel gains red accents to help set it apart from other models in the lineup, and synthetic leather upholstery is used. Finally, the pedals have a metallic finish. This trim level costs nearly $4,000 more than the one that came before it.
Compare the 2022 Ford Edge ST-Line vs. Titanium Trim. What is the difference?
The Titanium trim level of the 2022 Edge has the same powertrain as the base model. It does upgrade the front windows to laminated glass and adds rain-sensing windshield wipers to the mix. The power liftgate gets a hands-free function, allowing drivers to easily load the Edge even if their hands are full.
Inside, the Titanium model has ambient interior lighting. The side mirrors get a memory function, allowing up to two drivers to save their preferred settings. A heated steering wheel becomes standard here to help warm hands on chilly mornings. It loses the red accent stitching found on the ST-Line model, however.
Up until now, all Edge models have six speakers. The Titanium has a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system instead. It includes a subwoofer to really take the music-listening experience to the next level. There are leather-trimmed bucket seats in the front, and the driver's seat also gains memory settings. Available for this model are ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. For the front passenger, the seat is upgraded to six-way power adjustment rather than four-way.
Buyers should note that the ST-Line and Titanium have identical starting prices. It becomes a matter of preference - do drivers want the aggressive look of the ST-Line or the extra luxury touches of the Titanium?
Compare the 2022 Ford Edge Titanium vs. ST. What is the difference?
For approximately $2,500 more, buyers can have the ultimate version of the Edge. The ST model is the only one to get a 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engine. It can kick out up to 335-horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. For this model, a seven-speed automatic transmission is used instead of an eight-speed. It gets a sport suspension and 20-inch black-painted wheels. Going with this trim will mean losing some fuel economy, with the estimates coming in at 19mpg in the city and 25mpg on the highway.
This is the only trim that offers the ST Performance Brake package. It includes summer tires, improved cooling, and 21-inch wheels. The brakes are larger and gain red-painted calipers and performance pads.
Several of the standard features for the Titanium trim level become optional for the ST. They include the wireless charging pad, the remote start system, and the hands-free power liftgate. The universal garage door opener becomes available rather than standard as well.
Inside, there are aluminum pedal covers for the brake and accelerator. The perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel features silver stitching and has the ST logo. As for the front seats, they have bolstered captain's chairs with an embossed ST logo to further set this top trim level apart.
Which Trim to Choose?
The 2022 Ford Edge has a lot to offer at every trim level. Deciding to stick to the base model is not a bad call, considering it has standard all-wheel drive and an extensive number of safety features. For just a bit more, however, drivers can get a lot more luxury and convenience by upgrading to the SEL.
Many of the features that are added by the SEL, such as the power-adjustable heated front seats, are ones that drivers will really use. The SEL also opens up many more package options, allowing buyers to get the 2022 Edge that will really work for their needs.
Some people may find the bolder exterior of the ST-Line worth paying more for, but most drivers will skip this trim. The Titanium model does have a more luxurious feel. That said, the features are not really necessary for improving the quality of day-to-day drives. As for the ST, its engine is undeniably more fun, but its price puts it out of reach for many people shopping the Edge.
