Ford Expedition Overview:

Powered by the EcoBoost turbo V6 engine, the 2021 Ford Expedition SUV offers some of the highest towing, horsepower and torque ratings in its class. From the Rotary Gear Shift Dial to the Cargo Management System, this powerful model also has lots of convenient features inside the luxurious cabin.

Styles

Available in nine trims, the 2021 Ford Expedition welcomes seven or eight individuals for a premium ride. Models that carry the MAX label offer extra cargo space and legroom. Having three rows, this spacious SUV offers a rear-wheel drive or signature 4WD system with multiple modes.

Performance Specifications

The 2021 Expedition runs on the 3.5 L EcoBoost engine, which has a classic V6 layout for optimum output. When working at 5,000 RPM, the turbocharged powertrain generates 375 horsepower. At a tachometer reading of 2,250 RPM, the six-cylinder engine delivers 470 pound-feet of torque. When installed under the hood of the Platinum trim, the EcoBoost powertrain increases the output by 25 hp and 10 lb-ft of torque. Such an improvement is possible because of the twin turbochargers that utilize an air-to-air cooling mechanism.

This full-size Ford SUV offers a heavy-duty radiator to quickly dissipate heat from combustion and other processes under the hood. Providing 10 fixed shifting points, the SelectShift automatic transmission system drives this large family vehicle. This patented gearbox is fine-tuned to work with a 4x4 drive system, which has a transfer case with two preset operating speeds. The Neutral Towing function is another innovative feature of the updated drivetrain. When running on a 4x2 drive, the 2021 Expedition has a class-leading towing rating of 9,300 pounds.

Driving Impressions

Designed to work with the 4x4 drive, the Hill Descent Control prevents this Ford model from accelerating on a downward slope. Climbing a steep slope shouldn't be a major problem because of the Hill Start Assist, which keeps the braking system engaged for up to 2 extra seconds after the driver's foot is removed from the brake pedal. The Roll Stability Control is another feature that improves performance on sloped roads. Carrying the AdvanceTrac label, the RSC includes multiple gyroscopes that monitor the vehicle's balance in real time.

Available on the 2021 Expedition, the Intelligent 4WD system is highly recommended for drivers who love to take off-road trips. Up to seven unique driving modes are included in the Terrain Management System, such as the Tow/Haul and Mud/Ruts settings. A single mode also improves traction on grass, gravel or snow. This full-size Ford SUV has an exclusive suspension system with the all-new Continuously Controlled Damping design.

Creating a rear axle ratio of 3.73, the Electronic Limited-Slip Differential comes with the ControlTrac technology for optimum handling on rugged trails. When rolling on a 4x2 drive, the 2021 Expedition's rear axle attains a maximum ratio of 3.15. Controlled by a switch in the instrument panel, the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller is an advanced hardware that engages the vehicle's brakes and steering system. With extra support from the Trailer Sway Control, the driver can confidently change lanes while towing a trailer that's packed to capacity.

Fuel Economy

The 2021 Expedition attains a fuel economy of up to 23 MPG on the highway when rolling on a 4x2 drive. In the city, such a driveline configuration yields a maximum of 17 MPG. Gas mileage ratings for models that run on the Intelligent 4WD system include 22 MPG on the highway and 17 MPG in the city. For its powerful design, the EcoBoost V6 engine is quite efficient because of the Auto Start-Stop design.

Interior Amenities

Up to 104.6 cubic feet of cargo volume is available behind the 2021 Expedition's front seats. The MAX models offer an additional 20 cubic feet of cargo storage capacity. Families can optimize the interior storage space by using the Cargo Management System, which is ideal for luggage and large bags. This three-row Ford model also has up to 15 beverage holders and a storage bin inside the center console.

The captain's chairs in the 2021 Expedition's first row have the Active Motion design to reduce stress on the entire body. Protected by real leather trimming, these contoured seats also come with heating and ventilation. Having a tip-and-slide design with a power-folding option, captain's chairs are available in the middle row. Select models offer third-row seating with the PowerFold mechanism for easy adjustments.

This full-size Ford SUV has the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control to keep all occupants satisfied in any season. The tri-zone EATC system includes air vents for the rear passengers. Featuring glass panels that slide above the first and second rows, the Panoramic Vista Roof offers pleasant views of the sky and lots of fresh air. A heated steering wheel and sliding sun visors are some other amenities that help the driver deal with different seasons.

Digital Technology

The 2021 Expedition includes a center LCD touch screen with a pinch-to-zoom function and the Enhanced Voice Recognition. Powered by the FordPass Connect technology, the built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi network sends signals for up to 50 feet. Everyone inside this Ford SUV can connect to the internet at the same time because there's a capacity for 10 devices. Smart-charging USB ports and a wireless charging pad ensure that everyone's mobile devices have plenty of battery power for road trips.

This full-size Ford SUV offers a dozen speakers that are manufactured by Bang & Olufsen. Hundreds of music channels are readily available on HD Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Having a dual-headrest design, the Rear Seat Entertainment System is compatible with DVDs, external gaming consoles and smartphone apps.

Offering a nine-model lineup, the 2021 Ford Expedition is an excellent choice for families that demand lots of power, luxury and utility from a full-size SUV.

How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Ford Expedition

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Ford Expedition invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of all the options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here)

Note: All Ford Expedition MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
