Toyota GR Supra Overview:

The new 2020 Toyota GR Supra has already become a big hit. Although this dynamic sports car puts a serious priority on performance, it’s still extremely practical. A starting price of less than $50,000 also makes the Supra a good investment. Furthermore, drivers will enjoy the car’s 21st-century technology.

What’s New for 2020?

After being off the market for quite some time, the Toyota GR Supra makes a return for 2020. Unlike the previous model, it’s built with help from BMW. In fact, this car’s engine is taken directly from the new BMW Z4 convertible.

What Styles Does It Come In?

Like before, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra is a rear-wheel-drive coupe. It only seats two people, which means your family won’t be able to tag along for the ride.

What Are the Available Trims?

The current lineup has a total of three trims. Don’t be misled by the “base” GR Supra. It’s nearly just as nice as the more expensive trims. Not only will you enjoy nice creature comforts like leather-trimmed sport seats and two-zone automatic climate control, but you also receive a BMW-designed infotainment system. Although the standard 6.5-inch touchscreen is a bit small, users will appreciate its easy operation. A Navigation + JBL package is optional, which brings a thumping JBL audio system and a larger 8.8-inch touchscreen with navigation.

If you desire a few more niceties, move up to the GR Supra Premium 3.0. Aside from the base model’s optional Navigation + JBL package, it also features heated leather seats and a head-up display. The most exclusive model is the GR Supra Launch Edition. Toyota sets it apart by adding carbon-fiber trim and special wheels. Red leather upholstery is available as a stand-alone option.

The GR Supra’s Exterior Styling

Automotive critics give the 2020 Toyota GR Supra top marks for its exotic styling. There are several cool design cues, including a “double bubble” roof and expressive LED headlights. Meanwhile, a built-in spoiler on the rear pays homage to the previous-generation Supra. The coupe’s ultra-wide stance further enhances its aggressive look. Toyota offers a total of eight paint options. Nitro Yellow and Downshift Blue enable you to really stand out.

Every trim in the lineup makes a strong statement on the street. Nevertheless, the Supra Launch Edition is special. It comes equipped with signature wheels and red mirror caps.

Driving Experience

Powering the GR Supra is BMW’s 3.0-liter, turbo inline-six engine. Although this engine is rated to develop 335 horsepower, it feels more like 400 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission also helps the GR Supra to deliver a very quick performance. You can scurry to 60 mph in about 4.1 seconds. When accelerating, drivers will love the crackling sound of the car’s exhaust.

Unlike a muscle car, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra isn’t just fast on the drag strip. It handles well enough to offer a competitive performance on a race course. Luckily, Toyota also dialed in the GR Supra’s Adaptive Variable Sport Suspension just right for the street. Durable Brembo performance brakes are standard on every trim.

Fuel Economy

When it comes to fuel efficiency, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra is exceptional. Even when driving around the city, drivers can look forward to getting up to 24 mpg. Meanwhile, drivers can see up to 31 mpg on the open highway. To no surprise, Toyota advises the use of premium unleaded.

Comfort and Quality

The inside of the 2020 Toyota GR Supra looks and feels exactly like a BMW sports car. This means build quality is flawless. Although you may be tempted by the higher trim levels, even the base model is extremely nice on the inside.

Despite its small appearance, the new GR Supra is big enough to satisfy the needs of bigger drivers. Even folks who exceed the six-foot mark shouldn’t have issues with legroom. However, this coupe does sit low to the ground. Some older drivers may struggle to get out. Rearward visibility is also a bit limited.

Safety

The federal government has not tested this car’s impact protection. Nonetheless, owners shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Even if you happen to be an inexperienced sports car driver, you can lean upon the GR Supra’s accident-avoidance technologies. A forward collision system and lane departure assistance are standard.

If you want to relax more on the highway, consider getting the GR Supra’s optional full-speed adaptive cruise control system. Designed to minimize stress when changing lanes, the available blind-spot monitor is just as helpful.

The 2020 Toyota GR Supra is a magnificent driving machine. It looks and performs like a high-end sports car. You will also appreciate the luxuriousness of this coupe’s cabin. Although some drivers may need to park their new Supra GR on snowy days, they’ll have a lot of fun during good weather.

How to Calculate The Dealer Cost of a Toyota GR Supra

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost:

  • Example: Base Toyota GR Supra invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of all the options + destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost.
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost - Rebate and Incentive + Taxes / Licensing Fees = True Dealer Cost. (You can get rebates and incentives here)

Note: All Toyota GR Supra MSRP, invoice and dealer cost dollar figures above are approximate amounts. Prices are subject to change without notice.

A note about rebates: Most rebates are subtracted from the "on the road" figure. In most cases, you can have the rebate if you are arranging your own financing or you are paying cash. If you decide to use the manufacturer’s low interest financing, you do not usually get the rebate. Ask your dealer for details.
